It took me a while to complete this book because the truths that were presented were ones that reached deep within me to truly cause me to reevaluate where I stood in my walk with Christ. "I Tell You the Truth" has allowed me to draw closer to Jesus Christ; who alone can supply me with the power, love, and self-discipline that I need to get me through each day.

All the ideas are so clearly written and pieced together.

"i tell you the truth" is a book that every christian and non-christian should read. I dogged-eared several pages just because everything made such perfect sense in the way it was written. This book would serve as a great way to learn and understand God's word more clearly.

I had no idea how many simple tips delivered with great humor would change my life for the better. This book is so well written and easy to read that I was able to start using the tips right away. I have even given it to several family members and friends who feel the same way. I am surprised at how much weight I have lost by just altering some of my eating habits!!!! I would HIGHLY Recommend it!!! Justin

Maggie Hunts gives real-life solutions for real-life situations. She puts everything in understandable language and takes the fearful mystery out of this rampant health issue and the life issues that are attached to diabetes. Through this book she has greatly contributed to my weight loss with her common sense and fun suggestions about managing sugar swings and more. Now I can be more understanding and supportive of my diabetic friends and family without the fear.

What a delightful book!

When I got the news I had Type II, it was presented with a lot of gloom and doom...all the bad things that could happen and a prescription. While the medical folks did their best with books and pamphlets, there was really nothing offered that spoke to the spaces I might go through, no sense of humor, no thoughtful conversation about how to thrive, not just survive with Diabetes.

Ms Hunts seems to be having a great time and her book is a delight to read. I have recommended it to a number of people who I've met who are travelling this path or who have a loved one who is.

Besides her sense of humor and common sense, it is also possible to read this book like a series of headlines for those of us who won't read every word on every page at least at the first sitting. I skipping the parts for Type I folks because it didn't apply to me but she did a really good job of making sense of it all...small steps rather than confronting the mountain every morning when you get up. I especially liked her section on dealing with one's resistance to exercise.

Try it, you'll like it!!

I know people who are wrestling with diabetes (don't we all?) and this book was a fun, interesting, easy read which helps me to understand their situation. Maggie's sense of humor and "in the trenches" perspective put her in a unique position to write a practical and fun -- yes fun! -- guide. I highly recommend this book to anyone dealing with diabetes and to their friends and families.

Not exactly tongue-in-cheek . . .

. . . but then again, this delightful book is, in fact, all about what goes over the tongue and past the cheek and into the blood stream of a diabetic.

As one who has only recently discovered how close I am to being a Type 2 diabetic, I read Maggie's book with not only a sense that she knows herself and her material intimately -- and that she has adjusted in a wonderful way to the limitations all that imposes -- but also a hopeful (almost joyful) realization that much of the "horror story" aspect of this terrible disease is certainly controllable and that life with diabetes can be just as full and fulfilling as life without it.

I will be using this book as a guide to making the rest of my life an adventure story rather than an avoidance mechanism. Thanks, Maggie.

I am in awe of the subjects Heather Gemmen tackles! What a fabulous way to expose young people to the serious global issues we face today! To do this through Christian eyes is even cooler, because it reminds us that we, as Christians, have a responsibility to our planet and to people in need all over the world. Lydia Barnes is like a modern Nancy Drew with a kick. After reading the first two books I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the third.

That said, as a professional editor I rarely find a writer who can connect so well with her target audience. KIDS LOVE THIS BOOK!

Every child I've seen within arm's reach of it has devoured it from cover to cover. Most adults do too.

This is a fun read, and the author manages to work a strong message into it without harming the story.

Lydia Barnes and the Blood Diamond Treasure is an exciting start to a promising adventure series. Fourteen-year-old Lydia travels to West Africa with her very cool dad and confronts many issues socially, spiritually, and personally. She takes to heart how the epidemic of AIDS affects people personally. She meets people who have been deeply wounded by the hardships of war. She struggles with the loss of her own mother and learns to trust God.

This book is a page-turner and a tear-jerker. No matter what your age, you'll read it through in one sitting.

Regardless if you're a kid by age or by heart, you'll love Lydia Barnes and the Blood Diamond Treasure! I bought a copy for myself and 5 of the young preteens in my life. I couldn't put it down, finishing it in one sitting, and the girls were almost as bad. I finally had to make them put the book away when the day got too dark outside to read where we were.

I highly recommend this book. You'll fall in love with Lydia, her dad, and the friends they live with in this book. Join Lydia as she discovers Liberia, learns more about herself and her faith, and understands the struggles of people in other parts of the world.

Fascinating -- but a little complex for the armchair reader

"Molecule Hunt" is a history of the technology of using DNA and other once-living substances to trace the distant past of man and animals. When I went to school archeology seemed to be the (boring!) study of old pieces of pottery; it's a lot more complex and interesting now.

The movie "Jurassic Park" popularized the potential of DNA investigation. "Molecule Hunt" is crammed with the facts and speculations that have emerged from the research of the bio-archaeologists over the last thirty or so years -- including a look at dinosaur DNA. One interesting section examines the relationship of the Neanderthal to homo sapiens. Other sections go into the domestication of wheat, rice, corn, cattle, camels, and dogs. When did it happen? Where? The author also examines human relationships, including the Indians of America, the Africans, and the Polynesians. DNA analysis gives us a possible scenario of where they came from and when and to whom they were related.

I have two complaints about the book. First, it contains not a single illustration or chart or map to help the reader understand complex material. Secondly, partially because of the lack of illustrations, some of the material in the book goes over the head of the average reader -- or at least this average reader. It's hard sledding at times to decipher the delphic declarations of the author. Overall though, the pain is worth the gain.

To those complaining about life's ups and downs, read this for consolation. Even the Stock Market doesn't achieve the rises and falls exhibited by the field of archaeology. Except the focus here is on ideas, not finance. Jones describes the tumultuous history of understanding human evolution during the past century. From a few bones and broken pottery, archaeology tried to unravel the mysteries of our past. The implementation of molecular analysis techniques, he shows, has revealed information undreamt of only a generation ago. In this excellent summary, Jones explains how new research has established our roots, our progress around the planet, and mundane details of our past life in various locations.

The imaging of the DNA molecule opened new portals for explaining life's progress. Once it was understood DNA can change, sometimes at a calculable rate, tracking the modifications became a new analysis tool. "Markers" on the molecule can be studied and placed in a chronological context. Jones manages to explain both the markers and the analysis techniques in clear, jargon-free prose. It's not an easy task, but he achieves it admirably.

Through much of this book, the "Jurassic Park" image remains a running theme. DNA from insects embedded in amber, however, proved an illusory quest. Although the insect bodies appeared intact, close inspection revealed the DNA was shattered long ago. Still further [and rather later] investigation resulted in some unexpected surprises - the insects didn't contain dinosaur DNA, but that of residents in their own guts. More than gut bacterial DNA survived- the entire organism was still living after millions of years.

The journey from "Jurassic Park" to realistic analysis has not been a smooth, linear path. Jones explains how new finds led to various theories of human evolution and migration with resultant cultural developments. The rise of agriculture was long held to have originated in one place, then spread across the planet. Molecular analysis techniques demonstrated the fallacy of that idea, Jones explains, revealing the evidence demonstrating the emergence of farming in various places. China's history of rice production preceded by centuries the grains produced in the Tigris-Euphrates area. Many other "established" concepts have been refuted by various methods of molecular analysis. Each new "absolute" is described by Jones as if irrefutably established. Then he discards the dogma with a flourish of new data.

The most compelling chapter in the book takes us away from DNA, with its many limitations, to "the other molecules". In "beyond DNA", Jones describes these molecules and the many surprises proteins, lipids and even blood now offer. The unexpected persistence of these compounds in proper circumstances reveals an immense amount of data. Animal blood has been taken from stone weapons providing information on prey species. Certain proteins found in blood prove astonishingly persistent, Jones explains. Having mineral attachment properties, these proteins can be found in bones and provide additional dating tools.

Plant-related molecules such as silicon "phytoliths" which give grasses a sharp edge and seeds barbs for protection and propagation can provide useful information. These and other indicators are being found in ancient grindstones and stone tools such as scythes. Jones laments the loss of such material from the early days of archaeology when such artefacts were scrupulously cleaned prior to analysis. "Dirty" evidence is proving of immense value in dating and environment of locale.

Jones has provided us a compelling account of the annals of molecular analysis in human affairs. Of far greater importance than the history of this discipline are the opportunities for further research. Anyone pondering a career in any one of a number of fields related to the human past would do well to investigate this book. Jones explains that molecular analysis topics range from broad, general themes to individual events. These run from the human diaspora to the murder of the Romanovs. Surely there is something here to interest any budding scholar. Read this for a survey of the options and decide for yourself. The Molecule Hunt: Archaeology and the Search for Ancient DNA written by Martin Jones is a book about modern molecular archaeology and what it entails.

This book is a fascinating and absorbing story of scientific inquiry. Keeping in mind that what is preserved for the scientist is in fosilized form and what DNA samples that they do get need specialized equipment and new field methods for getting the samples, essentially changing the way we think about archaeology.

This book is an easy read, largely helped by the author's prose making for a highly educational read about remarkable new techniques now available for investigation of our, human, past. DNA can be found in all life on the planet, extracting a sample from the past is extremely difficult. From seeds, wood, amber and even pot shards yeild a unique picture of the past as to what our diets consisted of and how we lived.

The author's enthusiasm for this subject is in evidence as the reader goes from chapter to chapter finding how molecular archaeology is in a scientific revolution making our concepts of the past change before our eyes. Stomach contents preserved in humans yields information about ancient diets.

This is an educational book as it shows how scientists, devising a molecular clock, from certain area of the DNA molecule, were able to determine that all humans descend from one common female ancestor... "The Mitochondrial Eve."

This is an all around good read as your eyes read, your brain will say I didn't know that they could do that... amazing as to what can be found out in molecular archaeology.

The Molecule Hunt: Archaeology And The Search For Ancient DNA by Martin Jones (the first to hold the George Pitt-Rivers Professorship of Archaeological Science, Cambridge University, and Chairman of the Ancient Biomolecules Initiative program) is a serious, authoritative, highly accessible introduction for the non-specialist general reader to the fascinating scientific revelations that ancient proteins and remnants of DNA trapped in fossils and amber can tell us about the prehistoric world from which they derived. From the discovery that all humans come from one female ancestor 150,000 years ago (dubbed "The Mitochondrial Eve"), to comparing Neanderthal DNA to that of modern homo sapiens, to revising when the first humans crossed the Aleutian land bridge, and much more, The Molecule Hunt is an amazing, informed and informative glimpse into how the disciplines and technologies of science can connect ancient mysteries with modern marvels.

I would recommend this text to anyone interested in informatics...or to anyone who is contemplating the purchase and installation of a electronic health record. Implementation can be a daunting task, but these ladies have broken a complex process into managable "bites" for anyone to accomplish.

This is possibly one of the best books we have ever read, and will appeal to everyone, regardless of your stage of spiritual growth and understanding. It is a story of a classroom of souls who are being trained for life upon earth prior to being born. Among other lessons, they must learn the "Principles of Planetary Purpose": 1) Planet Earth is a Classroom 2) In order to enter Earth's classroom, each of you must wear a body suit. 3) When you receive your body suit, amnesia will set in and you will forget who you really are. 4) Earth's curriculum centers around remembering the spirit and the love that you already are. 5) When you do begin to remember the love that you are, your intention to fully manifest that love will be challenged. 6) This is because each of you will also receive a Personal Ego and Free Will along with your bodysuit when you are born. 7) All learning and growth centers around the challenge of rising above the ego to manifest the love that you are. 8) Graduation from Earth's classroom depends on fully becoming love in action... While reading this book we each felt an awakening of cellular memories, and we cannot recommend it enough... not only to buy and read, but to then share the gift with others.

I started reading Primrose Past on a plane from Dallas to Los Angeles. It was clever and amusing, and I took it to be an enjoyable, light read. As I got into it, and as the story unfolded more and more, I could see that it was "getting to me" in unexpected ways. The people were so real, the challenges and problems were presented boldly and beautifully. I will never casually pass an old graveyard again, and see all the aging and weathered old stones marking the graves, without remembering this book, and the fact that beneath the ground there are buried dreams, promises and love. Buy this book and see what I mean! Kent Perkins, Los Angeles

Primrose Past is terrific. Caroline Hunt has conveyed fully the mind and spirit of an adolescent girl -- her struggle for identity and independence, her drive to develop and demonstrate her knowledge and skills, her emerging romantic and sexual desires, and her longing for family relationships that are mutual, intimate, and special. What a vivid portrayal of this bright, courageous, vulunerable, and likable girl! The story is replete with deft and detailed descriptions of life in England over 150 years ago -- estates (lands, buildings, furnishings, provisions, management, and operations), societal and cultural mores and expectations, and travel and experiences throughout the contemporaneous world. Primrose Past is practically a textbook wrapped in a delightful, intriguing tale. If I were teaching English in secondary school, it would be required reading along with Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice. I am eager for the sequel!

A lovely peek into the past.

For her fifteenth birthday in 1848, a young girl living on an estate in Victorian England is giving a diary in which to record her thoughts. She describes her idyllic life in the beautiful English countryside, where her biggest problem is dealing with her annoying little brother. When her parents travel to London, she expresses her disappointment at not being able to join them. Although this girl lived 150 years ago, her feelings and relationships were not all that different from those today. This book seemed almost like a real diary, even though it was fiction. Although this is an adult novel, teenage girls who enjoy historical fiction, such as myself, will enjoy it too. I highly reccomend this book.

This book looms as large on my experiential education bookshelf as David Kolb's seminal ur-text, "Experiential Learning." But whereas the latter has a more theoretical bent, Luckner & Nadler's work here is eminently practical, as well. "Processing..." is rife with pedagogical nuggets that are immediately applicable to all sorts of experiential learning contexts. Moreover, it's a very user-friendly work. No experiential educator worth his or her salt should be without this absolutely indispensible volume.

A MUST read for all Educators!

As an adventure "consultant" I found "Processing the Experience" one of the top three books I recommend to others in the education and/or adventure field. There are so many excellent ideas covering such a wide area of interest that it has become a reference book as I start design or facilitate a new program.

The book covers educational, corporate, family, and theraputic venues. I especially enjoyed the chapter on "edge work" because of it's application to challenge course work.

Comprehensive, easy-to-use and informative.

"Processing the Experience" offers a comprehensive, yet accessible look at the field of experiential learning. The book's easy-to-use format is a bonus for trainers, therapists and educators in all walks of life. It is well-researched and well-presented. The authors have an obvious love of their subject that translates into a work that can serve as a guidepost for others in their teaching and learning travels. The book offers a wide range of practical ideas that cover the spectrum of learning settings. The authors enlist appropriate expertise from some of the top professionals in experiential learning and related fields. The case studies bring concepts to life in ways that are both practical and philosophical. "Processing the Experience" is an important resource for anyone interested in learning in general and experiential learning in particular. I highly recommend it.

I was introduced to this book in my Outoor Leadership Training classat Houghton College and I was so impressed and impacted by it I laterwrote a manual for the camp I worked for using this book as one of the primary sources.

Whatever you are doing this will help you make an impact and teach you a great deal about learning with people. It has greatly improved my leadership skills in my outdoor education positions. This book enlightens so many of the fuzzy areas of group procesing and managing a group or person for growth experiences. Its division and explanation of the edge experience is priceless. END

The Public Relations Practitioner's Playbook is much more than your ordinary textbook on PR. This one is jam-packed with information students, practitioners and publicists for organizations, corporations and civic groups can use. The proven ideas, tips and techniques can easily be adapted simply by following suggestions or instructions. This is real-world "stuff."

The Playbook incorporates practitioners' experiences that should prepare students for careers in public relations. All of the major media needed to achieve synergy are covered - print, broadcast, Internet, face-to-face and special events. The four step public relations process - purpose, research, planning, implementation and evaluation - is also thoroughly explored. The author adds a preliminary step - purpose - creating the public relations acronym - PR-pie.

Practitioners should enjoy reading about the MAC Triad - Plus (P and T = Purpose and Timing), and other popular two-way communication models. Litwin thoroughly explains them through theory and practice. He demonstrates how mastering the models increases the practitioner's chances of reaching a plan's goal through objectives, strategies, tactics and tools.

I've already made good use of the CD Rom, which demonstrates how to write and produce audio and video public services announcements and video news releases. It also contains some terrific PowerPoints. I find the hints invaluable.

I view The Playbook as an investment in my future. I keep it in my laptop bag. They go where I go.

I keep one copy of "The Public Relations Practitioner's Playbook" on my desk between the AP Stylebook and my dictionary. Another copy is in my laptop bag. My laptop goes where I go - which means "The PR Practitioner's Playbook" does, too! Like that popular credit card, I don't leave home without it.

"The PR Playbook" is outstanding!

Practitioners, publicists for organizations, corporations and civic groups, and students will find it invaluable book in their professional library. The proven ideas, tips and techniques can easily be adapted simply by following suggestions or instructions.

"The Playbook" incorporates practitioners' experiences that should prepare students for careers in public relations. Practitioners should enjoy reading popular communication models. The author thoroughly explains them through theory and supports them through practice. Litwin demonstrates how mastering the models increases the practitioner's chances of reaching a plan's goal through objectives, strategies, tactics and tools.

The CD Rom, which demonstrates how to write and produce audio and video public services announcements, and video news releases, is also helpful. With eveything on the CD, that in itself, is worth the price of the new 535 page book.

If you are new to the PR world, you can rely on this book to answer questions and clarify approaches to tasks you perform on a daily basis. This book is a must have and would benefit anyone in the public relations field.

Go for "The Playbook" and its companion "The ABCs of Strategic Communication." The are amazing and incredible.

The Public Relations Practitioner's Playbook (A Synergized Approached to Effective Two-Way Communication) is neither just an ordinary textbook nor a handbook. It's a hands-on, step-by-step manual designed to provide both the seasoned professional and novice with a valuable resource containing information, knowledge and skills that can be applied to the day-to-day world.

The author has achieved the difficult task of targeting and reaching all three audiences: students, practitioners, and even the layperson - publicists for civic and other non-profit organizations. Through a creative, compelling, engaging and thought-provoking approach, The Playbook illustrates hundreds of proven techniques, tips, tactics, tools, strategies and terms every practitioner and would be practitioner needs to be successful - presented in a straightforward, down to earth manner. The book's dozens of "plays" summarize sections of the book's 15 chapters and are also included on a companion CD Rom, which contains examples of both audio and video Public Service Announcements.

One successful Philadelphia-area public relations specialist describes The Public Relations Practitioner's Playbook as a "must have." And we do, too! Professor Larry Litwin has hit a home run with a book we don't know how any PR person could live without it. Our opinion echoes that of the Philadelphia practitioner who says, "It should share the desk right next to the AP Stylebook and a dictionary."

Don Price's book is an upbeat, step-by-step, guide to achieving your business goals! I particularly liked it because it was so positive, easy to read, and contained lots of suggestions in a step-by-step manner for marketing yourself. It seemed pretty comprehensive, filled with both practical and innovative ideas. He concludes the book with especially good (step-by-step) questions to help you develop your own marketing action plan. In addition to that, the Appendix includes lots of sources of support for your marketing efforts - business cards, directories, publishers, audio/videotape producers, etc. I think this book would be a really great gift item, too, particularly for those friends starting their own businesses!
