Great book - Held my interest, again, just like the first book in the series. In reading this one, you can imagine yourself
in the schools but the characters are so real and right in line with what children in today's world are having to deal with
in schools. Steve did another great job on this book.

The Rainbow Tree is very, very inspiring and tells the story of how a little tree was born different and grows up in a forest
with other trees. The Rainbow Tree was different than other trees and possesses a unique gift. The rainbow colored tree inspires
nature, on-seekers and children to make a wish upon him. One child makes a wish to see him live a long time and soon on-seekers
began to write their wishes of hope on the special Rainbow Tree. The trees in the forest become jealous of him and the special
attention he receives. Over time, the other trees face many trials as they grow older but the rainbow tree remains a tree
of hope.
Soon the trees come to accept The Rainbow Tree and in the process find something special within themselves. The Rainbow Tree is gorgeous in rich in color. The illustrations in this book are outstanding! The Rainbow Tree is both for the the young and old. It's clever use of numberals as The Rainbow Tree grows older adds a neat element and style to those who with younger children just learning how to count or even read.
This book brings to life the essense of how important it is to look beyond the surface to find our true selves. There is a certain moral to this story that make this book a keeper. This book makes a great gift and should be on every parent's book list!

Excellent Job

Readers who want to fly high with theories might be disappointed (this book never once mentions feminism, postcolonial or
cultural studies, as such)... but should they really? No theory can convince people without the basis of sound technical analysis
of concrete examples. Literary theorists have to demonstrate, in a down-to-earth way, how the texts they deal with are constructed
under particular intentions. Surely, a toolbox for building the intermediary ladder is necessary in the process; this book
succeeds in providing us with one, and a very useful one indeed.
George Hughes does an excellent job of introducing us to the very basic (but often neglected) skills in looking at and analyzing literary texts, especially novels. His style manages to be intelligent and foolproof at the same time, relaxed but never pedestrian. His arguments are supported by an abundance of examples, some from celebrated texts, others from those we have heard of somewhere but were too lazy to read actually. (One of the virtues of this book is that it makes such texts look really attractive.) The way he explains terms and ideas is concise and to the point. (As a non-Western student, I found the section on free indirect discourse particularly helpful: it presents the elusive concept in an admirably transparent way.)
This book is a wonderful companion for traveling light in the world of literary texts - or, when it comes to that, `the world as text' (though the author emphasizes that this book focuses on the analysis of novels). Don't be put off by the seemingly unexciting title.

serving all 120 kentucky counites, we noted that this book adoptes a lot of information. however, we may add that custoemr
service is most important in doing title work, and as president of a title company that provides title exams for all kentucky
counites, we think that issue should be addressed as well. customer service is how we built a busines, along with accurate
title exams companies can depend on.

SIMPLY THE BEST ON THE ENGLISH REFORMATION
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 6 total.

Review Date: 2002-10-27
I read the original 3 volume history of the English Reformation by Hughes (printed in the late 1940's or early 1950's I believe).
This is probably the best history I have ever read, and I read a lot of history books. There is no doubt that Hughes knew
everything about everyone of any significance from this era. This is the work of a great scholar who has spent a lifetime
studying the subject. There is no other book which comes close to telling the story of the development of Protestantism in
the English speaking world as well as Hughes' three volumes. Not until I read Hughes' work was I able to understand why Protestantism
is what it is in our world today. Hughes sets out in great detail the political and economic motivations which lead to the
deveolopment of "true religion," the reasons why particular individuals in positions of political and economic influence chose
Protestantism as the tool to achieve their goals, and why it was necessary for these people to ruthlessly supress the Catholic
faith of the majority of the population. Here is the story of why certain theological ideas were selected by the ruling class.
After reading Hughes' work I was able to understand the reason for anti-Catholicism in American history (and the history of
the entire English speaking world). Before reading Hughes I was somewhat puzzled why some modern evangelical Protestants
and quasi-Christian cults (Mormons, Jehova's Witnesses, Seventh Day Advestists) were so stridently anti-Catholic when exposure
to Catholics was not really a significant part of the history of their founders. In order to justify what was quite simply
theft by the power of the state (crown) in order to pay for a foreign war and criple the only moral authority in opposition
to the crown's desire for divorce and adultry, it was necessary to invent a popular myth demonizing the Catholic Church.
By selling the Church's lands to the aristocracy (at relative low prices because of the sudden glut of real estate on the
market all at once) the Crown (Henry VIII) gained a very powerful and willing accomplance in its larceny. The powerful in
the United Kingdom needed to justify their breaking of the commandment forbidding theft, a damnable act in the Christian faith.
The justification came by demonizing the Catholic Church and inventing a new religion, English Protestantism. This demonization,in
the form of popular myth, eventually became part of the popular culture, a culture that was carried to the new world by English
colonists and incorporated into the new religions (evangelical Protestantism, Mormonism, Seventh Day Adventism, etc.) invented
in what was to become the United States. When the invention of English Protestantism is understood and one is aware of the
materialist forces driving the development of that religion one can then understand the materialism that is rampant in American
Protestantism and quasi-Christian cults today. Needless to say the lessons learned from Hughes' work do even more to explain
English history after the invention of English protestantism.
Hughes is a great scholar and a superb writer. This is without doubt his finest work. This work is a must for the personal library of every serious history reader.

In this book, Turnbull explores the options for Australian Republicanism and draws a compelling portrait of the political
and historical imperative for an Australian republic. The determination and Passion that Turnbull has for his country having
its own head of state shines through in this book. To those who voted Yes in the failed republican referendum, this is your
handbook to keep up the fight. Fot those who voted NO, get this book to dispell the lies you were told during the campain.
