A very good ESD book about ESD physics and devices

I have had this book for a long time. This one is the first book of the author's ESD book series which cover the most comprehensive topics related to ESD protection comparing with other ESD books. This book is good and very rigorous, starting from basic ESD concepts, leading to the physics of ESD protection devices, then focusing on the topics of stringent ESD design issues. It takes the reader from an intuitive level of understanding ESD issues to a mathematical explantion based on this understanding. This book combines the depth of theory and practical applications which are based on the author's many year's industry experience. It is suitable as both introductory and advanced. I have been done some ESD protection design projects and I always keep this book at hand as a tool book. This is a truly useful book.

Great series for ESD education!

This book, ESD: Physics and Devices, is part of a 3-book series on Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) by the same author (Steven Voldman).

One of the main strengths of this series (and there are very many) is that this is very recently published with new and updated datapoints, not to mention being the only series of ESD textbook. Essentially, this means that all the latest developments in the field is published in an easy-to-understand series.

In this book, Voldman writes about the physics of ESD protection devices and circuits in his unique style which is illuminating both for experts and beginners alike. ESD implications for as technology changes are clearly stated and explained, with numerous data points measured from physical devices. I highly recommend this book series to all students of integrated circuit design and ESD.

I have already had this book for a while. This one is the second book of the author's ESD book series which cover the most comprehensive topics related to ESD protection comparing with other ESD books. It is one of the most recently published ESD books with new and updated date points and the latest developments in the field. The thing I like most is, just like the name (circuits and devices) of the book, it not only takes the ESD protection devices as topics to present all the ESD design issues, but also takes the circuit applications as topics to discuss the concerns of ESD design, which gives you the picture that only with good individual ESD protection devices, the successful full-chip ESD solution is not automatic. It is a useful book for both designers and device engineers. I always keep it at hand for my ESD design projects.

I needed a text to teach an economics class with and searched for weeks with little satisfaction. Then I ran across this under utilized text. The writing is "brilliant" and the authors, especially Mr. Myers seem to have a very firm and realistic grasp of the essential concepts of "Economics"

Outstanding Economics Narrative

This is an outstanding economics textbook. Can be used as a quick primer on what the basics of the field are all about. I believe that the author of this book is a truly remarkable and extraordinary individual and everyone should listen to him closely.

This book really gives hope and is very inspiring. It makes you realize how good your life is, yet, how others have also dealt with hard situations similar to ones you have. All chapters are marvelous, but stand outs are Willa Ford, Roz (of the Goo-Goo-Dolls), & a paralized boy (I'm so sorry I forgot the name). God bless all the superstars in this book & the readers!

One of the best books ever!

I'm at a point where reading books feels like a waste of time, but this book was able to keep my interest throughout its entire duration! I originally only purchased this book, because Willa Ford (one of my all time favorite singers and one of the hottest women alive) and wrote a chapter. Her chapter is great, but not nearly the most interesting. This book's stories are full of imagination, hope, and most of all- inspiration. A blend of big celebrities, quasi celebrities, and normal folk. And a great read.

A really nice, easy vocabulary builder for young kids
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-03-07
I just bought this for my 14 month old yesterday and already we're accomplished 'what does a cow say - moo' and what does a sheep say - baa baa.' Unlike many of the other vocabulary books for babies, this one only introduces a few words and pictures at a time.

The format is very baby friendly. It's a thick board book where each page has its own tab making it easy for the babies to turn the page (my daughter's favorite activity). The first page has pictures (everything's made of clay making the pictures really cute and friendly looking) of a gate, dog, tractor, sheep and lamb, each labelled and on its own so they're easy to identify. Then, on the oposite page is everything put together, so there's a nice hillside with the farmer and his dog while the tractor tows a cart of sheep. Then there are a few other bits in the picture to continue with identification.

The book is only 10 pages long, but introduces enough images to really get a child thinking and learning. It's a fun activity a parent and child can do together, which is rare. The last page has all of the vocabulary words from the book, so you can make that into a separate game.

Overall, it's a very nice, inviting book that I think both parents and children will enjoy. Everything Usbourne publishes is brilliant and the Look and Say series is no exception.

This has been one of my son's favorites since he got it (around his first birthday) and now, at 19 months, he still comes back to it again and again. The format of the book is simple: on the lefthand side of each page are pictures of 5 farm animals and things found on a farm, and on the righthand side are those same exact things placed in a farm scene -- so the child can identify them again. Each page (there are 5) has a big sturdy tab with a picture of one of the featured items (tractor, cow, scarecrow, hen, owl) so when the book is closed you can still see those pictures. The last page reviews all 25 pictures featured in the book.

Not only is this a great book to familiarize children with things found on a farm, but the pictures are REALLY COOL. All the characters (farmers, sheep, ducks, etc) are made out of Fimo (modeling clay), photographed, and placed in front of bright-colored backgrounds (fields, ponds, trees, etc). They are also somehow laminated so that they REALLY stand out. The book is a bit larger and sturdier than most other board books and holds up well to my son's rough play.

This is a very high quality board book and I would highly recommend it for any baby/toddler who likes to name and point to pictures.

What if your teachers were really evil? What if they're really out to get you? Who could you go to for help?
Why, the Fearless Force, of course!
Rushton Howard, author of Sebastian Reckless, comes through with another winning adventure, this time about a team of fifth-grade superheroes (okay, there's one sixth-grader).
Not only is it a fun, breezy read, but the illustrations, also by Howard, are gorgeous! A must-have for anyone, child and adult alike, who loves a good story.

Great resource. Up-to-date with input from the most well-known names in wilderness medicine. Small enough to carry in a backpack, but packed with helpful info. Includes everything from packing/planning to critical care in the wilderness. Best resource I've ever seen for this material.

Excellent condensed version of Auerbach's original text

If you consider Auerbach's Wilderness Medicine text to be "The Bible of Outdoor Medicine," then this will be a welcomed addition to your reference library. The fieldguide takes many of the most important topics from the original text(such as high altitude emergencies, envenomations, and trauma management) and paraphrases them just enough to be of benefit to both the weekend outdoor warrior and the expedition medic. I particularly was interested in the various ways to utilize common outdoor gear and improvise traction devices for orthopedic injuries. This book is also great in that it is small enough to fit comfortably in your backpack or glove compartment, readily accessable when needed. I highly recommend adding this book to your home or office library.

This is an excellent condensed version of the full text. It is the only medical field guide I have found that is written for a medical doctor instead of an EMT or paramedic in an austere environment. I am a physician in a military special operations unit and carry it on all deployments, whether in the U.S. or other countries. It is the perfect size to carry with my field gear and trauma pack, and is quick, easy to use, and reccommends very up to date and rapid treatment plans. A must have for all medical professionals practicing in the pre-hospital environment! For medical professionals going to remote locations that are limited by what they can carry on their back, very few texts/guides can be brought along. The solution to this limitation is simple; pack your Sanford, your Pharmacoepia, and THIS BOOK. It is the best text for it's size and weight available.

Engaging Portrait of The Ten's Most Controversal Figure

This is an indespensible addition to the Hollywood Blacklist Canon. The author reevaluates Jack Lawson's plays, screenwriting, and political development, as well as documenting the conflicts of the Hollywood Left of the thirties and forties. The depth of research of this book is impressive, with Lawson's extensive self-analysis layered throughout the text. The author also mines such primary sources as FBI files and the then Red Baiting "Hollywood Reporter" for additional insight. A scholarly yet very readable book, this is a must for anyone interested in radical American politics of the period, Hollywood, and the Blacklist.

A Man and His Times
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2006-11-23
For many of us with an interest in the Hollywood blacklist period, John Howard Lawson appears as something of a negative symbol. Variously characterized as a Stalinist hardliner, a cultural commissar, and a hack writer, he frequently comes across as the least sympathetic of the purge victims. The image is usually that of a one dimensional minion of the party line, without either imagination or compassion. Horne's strongly focused biography attempts to get beyond the cliches to the details of the man's work as both writer and activist. The result is a much more complex portrait than what the public image conveys. But perhaps more importantly, Lawson's career also charts the rise and fall of the Communist Party in Southern California and the wrenching struggle to organize screenwriters within the industry that employed him. Thus, the book follows not only Lawson's career but those larger events that he strove so mightily to influence. Horne's meticulously researched book is indispensible for anyone interested in those topics.

Several miscellaneous comments. What we learn of Lawson the man comes mainly from his professional life and little from the personal side. I wish there were more anecdotes about the personal side that might reveal more about the man than what the writer-activist reveals, which frankly tends to confirm the cultural-commissar accusations. Also, the text could use better editing, as, for example, the numerous points at which Lawson is said to have "committed" to the party. For me, that got confusing. As to the often leveled charge that Hollywood reds smuggled propaganda lines into their movies-- that claim is thoroughly debunked by both Lawson and Horne, showing how many layers of supervision scripts had to pass through before reaching the screen. Lastly, the book is very revealing about the way in which the blacklist was used to strengthen the role of producers at the expense of writers, which, I believe, amounts to a lesser known aspect of the period.

Whatever one thinks of Lawson's politics, it's apparent that he remained a steadfast champion of social equality and economic justice throughout his life. Moreover, he participated at the center of one of America's most tumultuous and treacherous periods, with literary and film-maker contacts far and wide. In fact, it may not be possible to understand the trajectory of modern American film-making without the kind of insight into that crucial post-war period that Horne provides. Thanks to the author, the public now has an opportunity to better assess both the the Dean of the Hollywood Ten and his times. For, as the book shows, the two are inseparable in many ways-- ways that are still with us, as the anti-Moslem hysteria and repressive Patriot Act abundantly illustrate.
