An amazing book that fills many of the gaps when learning a less mainstream language. Any learner of a language such as Georgian will find themselves in the position of materials being expensive, hard-to-come-by, poor quality or non-existent. Also the student will face a lack of genuine source materials written in the language to practice with and to develop vocabulary and style. The book includes sections on literature and poetry which put the student in the position of being able to see the language at work, as well as an extensive lexicon and dialogues written by a native speaker. The book is NOT, however, for the complete beginner as the title suggests, but the culture sections give enough material (fully translated) for this to be a precious resource for anyone serious interested in the subject matter. Truly a special book that goes a huge way to filling a gap in available resources and a joy to read. Heavy though ......

Excellent resource for continuing your study of Georgian!

This book is a wonderful resource for students beyond the beginner level. It has a good review of grammar points, especially the notoriously difficult verbs. The best part of the book, in my opinion, is that it gives a wide range of examples from Georgian literature in Georgian. It is difficult to find many of these even in translation in the US, much less the original text. Obviously the authors both know the language well and love Georgia and its culture.

The font is a little small and it is expensive but it is good.
This book has dialouges, poetry and idioms. It is a good Idea for anyone that is trying to learn the language or having a hard time reading the script.
When I studied Russian I took a break and focused on Serbian (also in cyrillic) using a dictionary. After a few weeks I could read cyrillic with no problem and it really helped for Russian.
This book has done the same thing along with a steady flow of Adjara Tv (this is an example of educational tv) has made Georgian much easier for me.
Maybe your local library has a copy of this book, if so, take a look at it. Learning a language can be difficult but don't give up because it is worth the time and money.

Point of Grace is a popular Christian singing group with a particular attraction to teenage girls. As part of their ministry they regularly have conferences called Girls of Grace that are directed at teenage girls. This book is a collection of common questions and answers from those conferences. The questions cover a vast area of concerns from dating, friends, family, boyfriends, love, sex, faith, emotions, and other issues. The end result is a book of Christian based answers and guidance for girls going through common teenage issues. Q & A with Point of Grace is a highly recommended book both for teenage girls and for parents seeking to understand, or remember, the problems of being a teenage girl and how that has changed today.

Being a Christian teenager is sometimes difficult. Often it's hard to be true to your faith and your values when your friends are pressuring you to be part of the crowd. It's hard to say no to temptation. You may also have questions that you just don't feel comfortable asking your parents or your minister.

Q&A with Point of Grace seeks to answer those difficult questions and give young Christian girls advice on how to embrace their faith and uphold their values even when they are tempted to follow the crowd. The members of Christian pop group, Point of Grace answer the questions that real teenage and young adult girls want to know about in an openly and frank manner from a loving Christian point of view. Each answer is also complete with a biblical quote to help reinforce each message.

A Must Have!

In this outstanding book we have some real questions and some real answers from our Point of Grace gals, Denise, Shelley, Heather and Leigh.
Questions gathered from teen girls are placed before them. Topics range from, "What do you do if you really like a guy and he doesn't like you back?" to "How do you deal with stress?" The answers are truthful, upfront and are laced with spiritual wisdom. The gals also answer some personal questions, like how did they meet and were all of you friends before you started singing. Very interesting.
This is a neat little book and will really be an asset to a young person whose head is full of why?, what to do?, how come?, and just questions about life in general as they struggle with growing-up. A book that is well worth your attention; one great read that fills a large need.

THE GO-GETTERS: Market Driven to Career Success is an outstanding resource for people looking for a great career match. When I started my search I sent out a bunch of resumes to ads in the paper, and don't recall getting one response - not a targeted campaign but desperate scramble. After I followed the approach the author prescribes I ended up with 4 offers that showed up at the same time. This book will relieve the stress many feel when looking for a new position.

I've been through my share of job searches during my career, so I pretty much knew the traditional routine of searching the classifieds and on-line job sites, networking with friends and business associates, etc. However, when I read The Go-Getters it was really eye-opening and refreshing. My job search approach and techniques were so outdated! This book helped me to focus my career goals and to implement a proactive job search that I'm sure gave me an advantage over my competition. The main precept of the book is that your job search strategy should be formulated like a business strategy in the sense that it is market-driven. As the author explains this concept and how to implement it, I kept thinking, "Wow, this makes so much sense!" Besides offering valuable, unique information for job searchers, I would recommend this book because it is presented in a way that is entertaining and easy to understand.

My job search since graduating at UCLA has been one big disappointment.

For the few interesting jobs offered at my university career fair, I faced tons of competition. I didn't even get a 2nd interview once. I spent 6 months looking for a job after graduation. Few jobs, however, interested me especially in the newspaper classifieds. Whenever I found a cool job in Monster.com, HotJobs, or another job website, I NEVER EVER received back a reply. A friend found me a job, but the pay was so little it wasn't worth accepting.

Before I started my job search, I attend a few career workshops at school and read the popular career books like What Color Is Your Parachute and Job Search for Dummies. While I realize learning about resumes and interviews is important, I quickly learned that these tools don't help you find potential employers.

Then a friend recommended that I read the book THE GO-GETTERS: Market Driven To Career Success. Once I read the introduction and first chapter, I knew this book was totally different, it's truly something special. It's not even a typical "how to" reference book. It's a story of 10 job hunters and how they find career success.

I must say since I have read the book and implemented some of the strategies, I have 3 job offers all in the area that I was searching for. Now the question is which one do I take. They are all so great!!!

The author, David Lee, who I've never heard of before, has crafted a very special book about the job hunt. The guides are extremely practical and gives incredible insights on what I most wanted to know. I know I'm repeating what's said in the Amazon.com description, but it's true, THE GO-GETTERS teaches you how to find companies ready to hire before they advertise in the newspapers and job websites.

The book teaches the most important aspects of the job search as far as I'm concerned - how to increase career alternatives, how to find companies ready to hire that don't advertise vacancies or recruit at job fairs, how to find interesting companies I've never heard of before, how to approach companies in a business-like manner, and how to understand what companies look for in an interview.

THE GO-GETTERS' main theme is to elevate the job search from just treating it like a "job" to treating the job search with a market-driven business mentality. This makes complete sense to me since the job search is such a competitive process.

All I can say to the author is, "thanks!"

I never had a successful job hunt until I read THE GO-GETTERS. And reading it only took me a couple hours - the book is only 120 pages. Other career books are 300, 400, 500 pages. Who has time to read a reference book when you're looking for a job!

Maddox's book lays out the extent to which religion and politics are intertwined in Australia in minute detail. The voice is pragmatic, but there are unmistakably dire implications for the country. Even though Australia is not as overtly influenced by the Religious Right as the US, Maddox makes it clear that there is a great deal more _covert_ action taking place that has been deliberately obscured.

Although this book is now a little dated, it remains a valuable resource for exposing some of the key players in this situation - and I look forward with anticipation to Maddox providing us with an updated edition.

Marion Maddox's "God Under Howard" is a fascinating book. It discusses the role of religion in Australian politics during the tenure (still ongoing at the time of writing) of Australia's second-longest-serving Prime Minister, John Howard.

Maddox parallels the beliefs and tactics of the religious right in US politics with those of the conservative Liberal Party government lead by John Howard in Australia. However, the book is not only limited to Howard's tenure as Prime Minister (1996-present). The opening chapter outlines the influence of religion in Howard's early life. In addition it examines the role of political tactics borrowed from the US religious right in Howard's time in opposition, and how these tactics helped him rise to power.

Historical discussions about Howard's youth, and about debates in Australian Parliament over euthanasia and equal employment opportunities are very interesting.

From a purely political-science point of view, the analysis of how a quite secular country like Australia has been influenced by religiously-based political movements is very interesting. This book would be enjoyed by anyone interested in Australian politics, comparative world politics, and religion.

There are some moderate biases in this book, mostly opposing some of the Howard Government's policies, and opposing people who interpret Christianity as saying that Jesus wanted people to be rich. These biases are not overwhelming, and much of the treatment of subject matter in the book is objective and even-handed.

The book paints a picture that religious-right views are strongly pervasive in Australian politics, and strongly influence many Australian politicians. Recently, the Australian Parliament voted to effectively lift restrictions on the abortion drug RU486 and on theraputic cloning for stem cell research, this development somewhat undermines the image of Australian politics that this book presents.

Behind the plastic reindeer: Us and Them

This book makes a clear case for why some of the Bush Christian rhetoric does not work so effectively (at least yet)in polarising Australian public opinion. Having established this, it makes an even more compelling case for the indirect manipulation of public opinion by the subtle use of 'us' and 'them' labelling.

This is not just about the politics and religious beliefs of leaders.

It is also about the role of the popular media in presenting opinions as facts without analalysing either what is actually being said or what it might mean in the eyes/ears of the recipient.

I recommend this book to all who are interested in, or care, about the kind of country we want Australia to be. But we need to think about who we (collectively) are. Reading this book will help stimulate thought on this.

First-hand accounts of this time and place are very scarce...beside being rich in detail and easy to read, I have another reason for recommending this book. This summer I presented to Yosemite visitors (as a naturalist volunteer) a program on the Miwok of the Wawona (Yosemite National Park) and how nature shaped their culture. Perlot's journal on how he cam e to understand the Indians and appreciate their skills was so suited to what I was tring to convey, that for my visitors appreciation, I read a paragraph or two to them. A "thank you" to the Indians of this park who guided me.

Excellent review of my Great Great Grandfather's 20 years in America after leaving first Belgium and then Paris to seek his fortune with a company that upon arrival in Monterey, California was bankrupt. Being a self starter and not one to give up easily; he headed off to the gold fields on his own gathering other people as he went along. He gives an excellent account of the hardships and heartache suffered by not only himself but others who found themselves so far from home. It was either charge forward or give up and go to wherever it was you could afford to travel. It shows his compassion for his fellow man and also his ability to get along with the Indians and adapt to whatever the world threw at him You have to be proud of a guy like that. Eventually he married a cousin and brought her to the U.S. to live in Portland, Oregon but eventually they returned to Belgium where he whiled away his last years enjoying life and most probably thinking about the wonderful and exiting years of taking each day as it came; solving lifes problems and standing up for what he believed in; occasionally backing that up with his pistol and rifle. This is not a shoot em up story or anything of the sort; however, it does reflect what it was like to be on your own in a very difficult environment and time when only the strongest survived. Naturally, I am biased since the old fellow blazed a trail for the rest of us Perlot's----of which there are but a few.

When first starting the book Grimm I thought it was just
another cop novel. But boy, did I find out differently real
quick!

Grimm is a fascinating and scary horror novel! And the bigger
surprise is that it's full of great characters and an even
better story line.

Arlo Grimm is a retired cop just trying to get through his
days without thinking about the horror his family has
endured, with the murder of his wife and son.
But fate has pushed him back into the killings once more
and he can't stop until he vindicates his families demise.

Grimm is a non stop story of supernatural events with
witches and the walking dead. You'll find yourself loving
the main characters and actually loving to read about
some of the evil ones.

Howard Hopkins and Link Hullar keep you on the edge of
your seat wondering where the next threats are going to come
from, who's not going to make it and wondering if the ones
who didn't will be back!

Grimm is a great read for those who aren't faint at heart and
I recommend it to anyone who loves to be scared!

Howard Chapelle probably is personally responsible for documenting over a dozen types of uniquely American sailing vessel types and numerous small craft that would have otherwise been lost to the ravages of time and so called, "progress".

Who better to research and write a history of the American Navy during the glory days of sail, 1775-1854. His direct access to Navy documentation, redrawing of original sketches (drawn plans were not the norm in this era), and interpretation of sail plans and rigging, add up to a well written, fascinating account of the early shipbuilder's, Naval Constructors, and misguided politics and shenanigans of our fledgling Navy department.

One can almost come to grips with how the current Department of Defense collectively thinks, and why nothing is ever as simple as it seems it should be.

No matter if you are a student of naval architecture, or just love sailing ships, the wonderful illustrations and informative text are a delight to read and the tables of information invaluable to the scale modeler.

A definate must for every sailor's (or Horatio Hornblower wannabe's) reference shelf.

I've always been a American Sailing Navy buff. Though I don't often get into the nitty gritty of the construction of ships or the actual nature of contruction of the ship itself, I have found that Chappelle's "History" is a fantastic resource as one researches and reads about the American sailing navy. I actually have a near-mint first edition copy of it which I value highly.

Chappelle was while he was alive, the foremost expert in the design and evolution of the American sailing Navy. His knowledge and talent was put to good use in writing a book that is still commonly refered to by naval historians over 50 years since it was written.

I do not believe that many books of a similar nature have been written since, possibly because Chappelle was so thorough in his coverage of the subject when he wrote this book.

The book itself chronicals the evolution of the American sailing Navy, from colonial days, before there even was a navy, to the 1850's when steam began to take over. It includes hundreds of diagrams of ships, illustrations, dimentions, and drawings.

So complete is his data, that I know of at least one modelmaker, who's used Chapelle's data extensively in construction of his models.

If you enjoy sailing, or American sailing Navy history, this book is definately worth a look.

For those who are interested in the technical details of the US Navy sailing ships, this is the book of choice. This is perhaps one of the most complete and thorough research book that covers the history of the sailing ships serving the US Navy. The book's eight chapters plus an appendix covers sail ships that served in the US Navy from the colonial period up to the last one built before the Civil War. Sail ships ranging in sizes from small sloops to large Ship of the Line are covered. Details regarding the design considerations/proposals, dimensions, number/types of guns, tonnage, performance, etc. are included. Detail illustrations are also included.

This book mentions some brief history of some of the sailing vessels but not in detail. So for those who are interested in the history of a particular vessel this is not the book of choice.

Any naval historian, architecture, and those interested in sailing should get this book and will not be disappointed.

Let me tell you, "podnahs", Home to Brushy Creek is one of the best western stories I've ever read! It's right up there with the best that Louis L'Amour ever wrote. It is full of action and great characters, and it is written in folksy, easy to read, "good ol' Texas writin'". And being a Sheriff with 20 years of experience in dealing with all kinds of folks, I can tell you that the author makes his characters sound real--the villans as well as the good guys. He also does a great job in describing the shootouts that he tells about....That last battle that settles the question of who is going to rule Brushy Creek--Range Lord Bascom Clark or its good and decent townfolks--will have you holding your breath and sitting on the edge of your chair, I guarantee.... Ward Garrison, the story's main hero, is my kind of man...fearless, honest to a fault and can always be counted on when the chips are down. And all of you girl readers will love Sina, his gutsy little Irish-Quaker wife who is right by his side guarding his flank in every battle they have to fight. Home to Brushy Creek is an exciting story that will leave you feeling good all over. ...Go ahead, have yourself a good day... Sheriff Lacy Rogers San Jacinto County, Texas

I'd love to read a sequel to HOME TO BRUSHY CREEK! While I was reading it I was wishing that I could clone Ward, Sina and Maggie right off a page and have them for friends for the rest of my life. This is a story about the two bloody battles that were fought in the aftermath of the Civil War with all of its lingering anger and resentment---the first one in Marlin, Illinois, the second one a while later in Brushy Creek Texas. Ward and Sina play heroic parts in both battles, supported in each one by their families and a few friends against an array of hard-bitten killers of every stripe. Ward and Sina are not just a man and woman that you'd want to have on your side in a fight, they are fine examples of good citizens, and as Maggie once declared "...everyone should have friends like them".
