This clever, rhyming dinosaur book is as much fun for the adults who read it, as the kids who listen. And it is very informative in the process. I love to give books as gifts. This one would be wondeful for children of all ages!

We have six grandchildren aged from 3 to 8 and they have all loved this book. Informative and fun at the same time, it can be read aloud to the little ones and savoured silently by the older ones. All ages will enjoy the delightful illustrations which complement the text.

This is veteran writer Howard Temperley's first children's book, but it is hoped it won't be his last! It is a delightful "rhyming romp" as the subtitle suggests and children will love the poems, while parents and teachers will also enjoy reading them aloud. I especially like "Dinosaur Nightmare" which is scary and funny at the same time. A accessible book like this can spark an interest in finding out more about dinosaurs. The colorful illustrations by Michael Kline are delightful and children will respond to them.

Lew Howard has done a great service I believe. This one stop shop for much of the BRILIANT Ken Wilber's work will save you much time and facilitate the assimilation of what I think are some of the most important ideas and developments in our world. The quicker we are able to live the awareness's presented, the safer and happier this world will become. Lew Howard's well laid out and explained book allows that time to come yet quicker I think. I encouraged 2 friends to buy the book and they both agree with this assessment. THANK YOU very much Lew.

"Introducing Ken Wilbur" is an excellent and accurate title to this book. I have enjoyed reading bits and pieces of Wilbur's works in the past but found it hard to stick with his larger works and was somewhat (not entirely) disappointed in Wilbur's novel "Boomeritis." Mr. Howard has condensed and summarized the kernals of Wilbur's philosophy. Howard's book - almost a textbook - also helped me understand how Wilbur came to the conclusions that he did.

A friend of mine also read this book and we found that it opened up some interesting discussions regarding politics and religion. As a liberal/green/analytical/sort of buddhist/sort of catholic person, it helped me understand and communicate with a conservative/pro-war/very catholic friend and colleague in a meaningful, less reactive way. I hope, really, that by educating people about their place in a complicated spiritual/psychological world, we can actually achieve that ideal of a more peaceful, successful, happy world.

I would also add that I found Mr. Howard's sincere admiration of Ken Wilbur very touching and quite appropriate. Both authors deserve our attention.

A Place to Start Reading Wilber

This is an excellent place to start in learning Ken Wilber's work. The author has done an outstanding job of organizing and annotating Wilber's ideas. I have tried to read Wilber before but always had the feeling I was taking a graduate level course when I hadn't had the "1A" course or many of the prerequisites. I was confused by terminology and concepts relating to previous or related works and gave up. Lew Howard has started at the beginning and created a whole sequential "curriculum" of Wilber's ideas and concepts. This book also provides a kind of master index to Wilber's books so you can explore topics in greater depth.

Lew Howard provides a very useful summary at the end of each chapter. I found this a good way to self-test myself to see if I had assimilated the chapter before continuing. I also found the summaries a place to return to for reviewing terms or concepts referenced later in the book.

At the end of many chapters, the author has included a topic with the title, "What Difference Does it Make?" He illuminates the importance of ideas with respect to those in other chapters on this topic. These sections are similar to the comments an instructor might give at the end of a lecture to provide insight on a lecture subject.

This book will go on my bookshelf as my ultimate Wilber reference.

I call this book a 1st class passenger's guide to the universe (hitchhikers would not have access to the scenicruiser seats). This is essentially a survey course that puts Science and Spirituality in a perspective where both can be well understood.

Drawing heavily on Ken Wilber's work, Lew Howard defines the terms and concepts and illustrates them until you have a good working knowledge before showing how the forms and constructs work together and evolve. Each chapter starts by showing where it is leading, then breaks these complex issues into understandable pieces and concludes with a summary. Things which I had assumed, believed, or wondered about all of my life have been changed, clarified, or deepened with his clear empirical evidence.

Everything is put into focus, from the subatomic to the geopolitical levels; everything from outside of the self to deep within. This book is a great reference to Life, the Universe, and Everything. Thanks to this book, I can look at everything around me with a deeper understanding.

For those who wish to delve more deeply into Ken Wilber's work, this book will provide an excellent roadmap. For those who want to open the door to meditation, this book will do that for you as well.

My copy (which is well soiled with the stains of seeking fingers, dog eared, and paper clipped) is within arms reach as I sit by my computer.

All of us have a story to tell, but not many of us put it on paper. Howard Yambura has done just that. His splendid gift of recall is evident in his book. Many little incidents and many large events have been recorded. The great variety of his experiences, and the wide travel of Howard and his wife, Barbara, make his book interesting. His generally upbeat attitude attests to his strength of character.

A highly recommended addition to anyone's American biographies reading list, It Had To Be You: Memoir Of A Navy Wife by R. J. Howard is a quite personal, autobiographical story which is told with self-respect and honor. R. J. Howard was a navy wife and in It Had To Be You, she presents her readers with an engaging and graceful record of her life related as something of an exciting adventure. Enjoyably told with a dash of humor, It Had To Be You reflects daily life and ordinary human experience in a most unforgettable style.

Plain talk from an exceptional woman. Nothing cutesy. No superfluous words. Just the story of her life married to a Navy officer and her travels around the world. As memoir go, this one is both fun to read and carries with it a power one wouldn't expect from an unknown writer. But take care---the book is told in a deceptively low key style. Their weight can take you by surprise. They did me. In a world of books written and sold with puffery and fanfare, this one is the opposite---precisely because it is more than what it seems at first glance.

This book is a wonderful 'bible' for both the beginner, as well as the experienced gardener. Recipies, planting instructions, plant selection, healthy soil-building, chemicals-vs.-organics points, lawn and landscape care/maintenance, pest control, diseases, composting, and product suggestions. A complete introduction and guide, detailing just about anything you might wish to know, well written and sensibly organized. And the photo on the front of this tome (of his daughter as a toddler,) sends the point straight home... why would anyone choose to use toxic chemicals when Mother Nature is so helpful?

You won't be sorry for buying this educational, enlightening handbook!

Recipes for homemade pest control and fertilizer. Good "product rate chart" to help in applications. How did I garden without it?

An excellent book written with the utmost reverence for God and truth, and yet also a devestating blow to Modern "Christendom" -- Kierkegaard passionately skewers hypocracy with his amazing talent. Read this book if you want to be reminded that Christianity demands the following of Christ and not the "building of sepulchers of the prophets and garnishing of the tombs of the righteous" that is entailed by "worshipping" Him in the hideous whitewashed spires of "Christendom".

"As high as true Christianity stands above all heresy and error and aberration, just so deep below all heresy and error and aberration lies [the] twaddle [of Christendom]."

"Think now what passion there was in primative Christianity, without which it never would have come into the world; propose to one of those figures the question, 'Dare a Christian tranquillize himself in this way?' 'Abominable,' he would reply, 'that a Christian... should tranquilly keep silent in the face of the fact that God every day is mocked by people pretending by millions to be Christians...'"

Insightful and intelligent, although a bit repetitive...

Kierkaagard's Attack Upon "Christendom" was written, not as an attack upon Christianity as a whole, as many believe, but as an attack upon the Lutheran state religion present during his lifetime. He offers a great deal of evidence showing how the priests in his native Denmark are not, as they believe, "Witnesses to the Truth", but are in fact liars who mislead the masses and merchants who have their careers (which is, in K.'s view, the wrong way to look at it) only to make money and have a royally subsidized position.

All of this does, however, become somewhat prolix, as this book is actually just a series of articles and pamphlets that he wrote in a 2-year span, which were then combined into the present work. Still, though, this book is an enjoyable read, due to the satirical style of K.'s writing and the, however arguable, relevance of the subject. I recommend reading "Training in Christianity", though, as an introduction to this book.

The ultimate Conspiracy Theory

Review Date: 1999-09-11
If you want to reassure yourself that Christianity is wrong or stupid or whatever, read Nietzsche's Antichrist. If you want to read something that actually frightens Christians, this is the book for you. The difference is Kierkegaard is a Christian with extensive Church experience so unlike Nietzsche he knows where the bones are buried.

The whole thing amounts to an elaborate Conspiracy theory. In order to be rid of Christianity Society has not rejected it, but enthroned it. But in so doing created a hierarchy (the institutional Church) with the covert purpose of making certain that Christianity does not exist. Christianity is professed as the StateReligion. There are many civil servant employed to promote it. There is much Real Estate devoted to it. Church attendance is high. And, as a result, Christianity is effectively nullified, because it actually exists nowhere.

One must remember that SK and Han Christian Andersen were drinking buddies (they fell out when SK reviewed one of Andersen's novels) and SK here announces another naked emperor. In a Christian nation no one is a Christian!

If you are just starting SK I suggest this book because here he is at his most open and "direct." Everything else has deep ironic undercurrents, but a "surface" reading of this one is probably close to right.

Typically Brilliant Kierkegaard

Review Date: 2006-04-10
The first reviewer on this page "a reader" does a prefect job of summarizing "Attack Upon Christendom."

Though deadly serious in his attack, with the utmost reverance and love for faith in Jesus Christ SK comes out swinging. It is hard to imagine how much ridicule he endured for this series of articles and rebutals.

Perhaps my favorite aspect of this collection of writings is SK's absolutely brilliant use of metaphors, and his comical sarcasm.

As a Christian, this is a very difficult book to read, but one that is crucial to understanding Christianity in what SK labels "New Testament Christianity" terms. In the beginning of the book, Valdemar Ammundsen is quoted as giving us this haunting reminder:
"Where Kierkegaard is wrong, that goes on his account. Where Kierkegaard was right, the bill comes to us."

There is so much I would love to quote out of this collection, such as the metaphor of the "Obediant Hound," but I hope that anyone even considering reading this will do so and experience it for themselves.

By backing up all of his claims with consistent citing of the Bible and Christ Himself, SK forces us to consider things that have either been forgotten or overlooked in regards to being a Christian.

Luke Banner is a man haunted by the ghosts of his past, the ghost of Jesse the girl he intended to marry, the ghost of the man who killed her and the ghosts of those he's killed since. Banner became a manhunter after killing the man who killed Jesse, his existence driven by the need to kill those on the wrong side of the law.

Now Banner has received an unsigned telegram that brings him to Bellstar, Colorado. Almost immediately there are attempts on his life. Yet the sender of the telegram doesn't come forward. Who wants him dead and why? Is the murderous gang terrorizing the territory involved?

Howard quickly puts questions to the reader that hook you, make you want to read on to find out the who and whys. The book has a fairly dark tone throughout as Banner contemplates suicide by letting one of those he goes up against kill him. Banner needs to escape the ghosts.

Then Banner meets the woman who brings forth feelings he thought long dead, the feeling of love. She feels the same for him. Yet Banner knows those he gets close to will die so steps back. Tries to push these feelings aside. Accepts a suicidal mission.

Howard writes a fast paced book filled with action that builds to a final confrontation that answers all the questions and brings forth a surprising revelation.

Does Banner escape his ghosts? Does he live or die in the process? I guess you'll have to read it to find out.

The Last Draw is well worth a read.

Luke Banner, the Manhunter, has been summoned to Bellstar, Colorado, by a telegram that he received, through his agency, asking for his help. There is no information in this summons revealing what kind of help is needed, or even who sent it. But since he has finished the job, that he had been previously summoned to do, very successfully, he feels that this might just be a way to help him forget the ghosts that haunt him.

No sooner has he gotten into town than he is challenged, by what seems to be just another poker player. No matter what Luke says, the guy is insistent on taking the argument to the ultimate end, death for one of them. For some reason, Luke cannot let it go either. Instead of letting the other man's words and actions go by, Luke gets into a fight with him that ultimately ends with Luke having to shoot him, to death.

This bothers Luke. He cannot figure out why he didn't stop the whole thing. He knows that he could have, but the ghosts just won't let him. Jamie's death, his lost love, has forced him to avenge her. He knows he is responsible for her dying, and even though he knows that this will not bring her back, he has no choice. He has "that itch to kill, to punish". He remembers her dying screams.

But Luke feels like he is losing his edge. He is getting older, he is drinking far too much, and the nightmares are taking a toll on him. Soon, perhaps the next challenger will be the one to end it all for him. End the killings, end the constant nightmares, end the drinking to forget, end it all.

Luke decides that although no one has come forward to give him any clue as to why he was summoned to Bellstar, he will stick around, and perhaps find out. The longer he stays the more he thinks that perhaps the man in the saloon wasn't just someone who wanted to make a name for himself by killing The Manhunter.

While waiting for someone to come forward, and tell him what he has been summoned for, he breaks up an attempt on the life of a beautiful woman, Cynthia Addleson.

Cynthia has something about her that almost makes Luke forget his pain. But can he allow her to get close? Would it ultimately mean her death if he did? Surely with more attempts on his life happening, and more to happen, her life would be in danger.

Mr. Howard has written a fascinating book. Again, he has managed to write a wonderful mystery, with the old west being the background. His characters come alive on the pages, and bring you into their thoughts, and lives.

Luke Banner is a complicated man. One you would just love to hate, but cannot, because you actually find yourself understanding him, and wanting to help him. Wanting him to win his war with his demons.

If you are looking for an old fashioned shoot 'em up, type of western, with no actual story, don't even bother reading The Last Draw. Because Mr. Howard doesn't deliver this. He delivers an intriguing tale of suspense, mystery, and insight into the characters, that make the story impossible to put down. The old west being the background for this wonderful mix.

You will not be able to figure out the ending, no matter how many scenarios you come up with. It will come as a complete surprise.

I totally recommend The Last Draw. It is a book that will leave you wanting more.

Mr. Howard is still the master of the westerns, and has hit another bull's eye. I look forward to reading many more of his masterful works of art.

The text of "The Legend Of The Christmas Kiss" by Barbie Jenkins is a poem, beautifully illustrated by the artwork of Joyce Revoir. This is the picturebook story of how the angels sent a beautiful snowfall on the very first Christmas when one little angel wanted to bless the newborn Jesus with the gift of her kiss. But something special happened to her kiss after passing through the clouds below. It became a glistening speck, drifting down and landing on the Christ child's cheek. Then a multitude of angels added their kisses to hers, and the earth is covered in a true winter wonderland. "The Legend Of The Christmas Kiss" is a unique and welcome addition to the growing library of Christmas theme picturebooks. for young children and their parents.

I got this book just for fun, and I absolutely love it! I was worried that it would be too easy since I've been playing for years, but it's perfect. The songs are all great and sound beautiful with the CD playalongs. The only complaint I have is that there is a page turn in the middle of "Into the West" which is impossible to do while playing the flute. But aside from that, I'm very satisfied with this book!

Well, i find this flute book completely wonderful, yet too easy. I suppose that would be because the whole flute concept comes easily to me (after two months of puffing along with no sound at first) But as a whole I would highly reccomend this as a flutist, Lotr fanatic and music lover. if you enjoy this, you MUST buy the sound track aswell. It is wonderfully written, and as a whole, just .. wonderful!

I recieved this book and CD as a gift for my birthday. I really enjoy having this in my library. Here's your chance to be in a symphony and play along to one of the greatest movie soundtracks! -The music is clear and easy to read.
-The CD has a demo track and a play along track which has the solo removed because you are the soloist!
-This compilation will challenge and entertain any playing abilites.
-There are some nice color photos from the movie, although personally there could have been more sheet music added instead of the photos.
-The CD is fully orchestrated, and it is very pleasant to listen to.
-There is a fingering chart in the back for beginner players.
-One drawback...The CD needs tempo clicks at the begining to give you the beat of the song-especially the slower parts. Plus you don't know when to start counting, the track just suddenly starts and you can miss a beat or two and get lost if you are not an experierencd player. Also some of the music is complex to listen to and it is difficult to find the beats.
-The reasonable price gives you no excuse to not have this in your library.

I was completely impressed with the Lord of the Rings Instrumental Solos for flute.
I have been playing flute for about two years now after taking music classes both inside school and outside for additional advice. I was able to master this beautiful instrument in no time. And I hope to keep up my talent for it.

Now, the features you will expect of this book are:
- 12 featured pieces from each of the three films. These are "The Prophecy", "in Dreams", "Concerning Hobbits", "Many Meetings", "The Black Rider", "Gollum's Song", "Rohan", "Even Star", "Forth Eorlingas", "Into the West", "Steward of Gondor", and the great "Minas Tirith".
- Each piece ranges from at least one page to two; however repeats, rests, and Codas may make the piece longer.
- The book contains full sized pictures of screenshots from the movie.
- A level of playing that is challenging enough for a person of nearly any level.
- Well organized pieces that are easy to understand and read.
- A flute fingering chart at the back to make sure you are able to look up every note.
- A wonderful CD to listen to with full orchestral backup or to play along with. In my case, the demos on my CD feature a professional flutist who plays each piece. When you wish to know the tempo and speed of each piece, this really improves the experience. In fact, the CD is amazing enough to be sold as a sound track for the films by itself.
- This book is available for Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Horn in F, and Trombone. This means that if any concert bands are interested in playing familiar Lord of the Rings music, the pieces will always be in key for each instrument.

In my opinion, this amazing book has completely brought me on to a new level of playing. If any of you are musicians, reading this, you know the feeling you get when you create such a soul-full, emotional piece of music that your mind and audience is touched by every note that weave themselves through each melody? This is what I felt during getting to know each piece in this book.
Howard Shore, this music is brilliant! Thank you to you and your full orchestra and team to putting this together to give musicians wonderful music to play from an inspiring trilogy of films!

MACCABEE is a remarkable excursion through a bloody time in Jewish history....one of the...most enjoyable books I have ever read....Rubenstein [has a] remarkable feel for the rhythm of language....I could happily quote this book...verse after verse.

An astounding modern-day epic poem

Maccabee: An Epic In Free Verse is an astounding modern-day epic poem based upon the the Biblical books of the Maccabees. Praising the valiance of those who resisted tyranny, as well as condemning the murder and slaughter of oppressors, Maccabee presents the violence of the Old Testament saga in plain terms, without glossing over atrocities committed. Of especial note are the comments about people who strove to comfort themselves by claiming that those who suffered and died were martyrs, when they were in fact murder victims and Torah law forbids human sacrifice. A moving and powerful way to experience a bloody chapter in history. The children of Israel kindle lights / for eight days each year / during the holiday of Hanukah / to celebrate the rededication of the Temple, / their survival as a people, / and the rededication of their lives / to justice, liberty, and peace. // There is a light / within the righteous / and courageous spirit / that burns longer than eight days. / It burns forever.

I loved this book! I did not realize the important contribution of the Maccabees to Western civilization until I read this book. I did not know that people were fighting for freedom of religion as far back as the second century B.C. Howard Rubenstein has told the story beautifully.
