this book contains little useful information regarding koi keeping...
only a lot of big low resolution (some seem like taken with a cell phone) pics of koi. And of course the price...when I got this book I tought I was beeing scammed...for this money one could buy 5 other realy good books on koi! I realy don't know for whom is this book written. It has little information for begginers and no useful information for pros, only big pics! But you can find better ones on the net...and more information in the wikipedia section on koi...

The only good thing in this book is the paper quality!

The last koi book you'll ever need

This book is a work of art, replete with what seems like thousands of gorgeous full-page photos and art prints, as well as essays on a broad range of topics. It's definitely koi-centric, so don't expect a book on pond-building, but for the true aficionado this is a must-have.

This is one of the most helpful books for travelling North Carolina that I've come across. It's extremely helpful and the personal stories provided by the author help give a better understanding of what the area has to offer! They were also especially amusing as stories of their own accord. Going on day trips across North Carolina were much more entertaining when using the information provided in this book!

A very basic listing

There was little in this book that is not available in the state's own publications. I'm familiar with some of the areas he covers and know he missed many of the most engaging kids finds,ie the country store filled with marbles, the eagle with the broken wing at Grandfather Mt. There is more to kids entertainment than amusement parks and if a restaurant doesn't welcome children, why mention it? His family anecdotes are amazingly dull!!

wonderful college level textbook for an introductory class in kinesiology. highly readable and engaging, which is shockingly nice given the topic. good use of colorful graphics and statistics. great inclusion of activity level differentials in persons of different economic/educationonal backgrounds. tha author and editors know their stuff and know how to write about it to make the material you need to know pop out. fun, factual, fascinating. good buy.

My son won grand champion at his 6th grade science fair with a project out of this book. The book helped explain the project, gave advice on the doing the experiment and on how to display the research.

These projects were more for 3rd or 4th grade science projects. You can find better ideas with just googling science projects. These ideas were very basic and elementary - most kids would find them silly and boring and most teachers wouldn't approve these projects as they would be too basic.

Pit Trading for Dummies
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2003-05-21
Written for and intended for aspiring pit traders. There is one section with 21 traits of successful vs. unsuccessful traders that is worth taking notes on and seeing how you apply to them. Otherwise, there is very little about trading methods. I suppose this is logical, as pit traders have their own obvious edge - buying the bid, selling the ask. It's hardly a secret.
For any off the floor trader though, not worth buying.

Great knowledge/insights...terrible editing

As a pit trader in Chicago, and a former student of the author's University of Trading, I know that Dr. Hoffman possesses a wealth of knowledge and understanding as to what it takes to become a successfull trader. Dr. Hoffman (along with his co-author) attempted to write a very basic book for aspiring traders to read in order to help them determine if trading is for them. Unfortunately, the editing was terrible and this takes away from the valuable lessons in this book. Please, read this book and take note of some of the gems Dr. Hoffman has shared.

I found 2 recipes in this entire book that are quick, easy-to-do recipes. If you're looking for fancy dishes you can make in the microwave, this is for you, not for the college kid looking for something simple.

You will be inspired to actually cook in that coffee warmer.

I cook in my microwave now. This book is wonderful. There are great soup recipes. My favorite are Chicken Tortilla and Minestrone. All the vergetables are cover with directions on how to get the best flavors. This book also tells you what you cannot cook well in the microwave. And the price is fantastic! This is great for a first time cook too.

A difficult book on a difficult subject

This is an old book dealing with distillation of azeotropic systems. The subject and also the book is difficult for people with a weak background on distillation, mathematics, physics. I recommend the book only to those involved at high level in distillation design and troubleshooting of distillation plants with highly non ideal systems.

Good stories that could take place anywhere.
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.

I first read San Francisco Stories (also edited by John Miller), and I was so impressed that I bought the other available books in this series. Unfortunately, where San Francisco Stories gave me a feeling of a particular place, Cape Cod Stories left me with the feeling that I could be reading about any summer vacation destination on the upper Atlantic. The first half of the book, with long entries by Norman Mailer and John Cheever, left me feeling like I was reading good fiction that just happened to be set in the Cape Cod area. The latter half of the book gives a much better feeling of a particular place.

Unlike San Francisco Stories, which were primarily personal essays and historical accounts, the Cape Cod selections are primarily short fiction. All of the stories are interesting, but they seem to run together. There are few older selections; Henry David Thoreau's description of the Highland Light is the best, but seems brief. The collection also includes a few gems, including Helen Keller's description of her first "swim" in the ocean. My only complaint with the editorial selection is placing "Summertime on the Cape," by Paul Theroux, at the end of the collection, rather than at the beginning. More than the others, his essay gives a needed description of the area, and provides a sense of place.

I should note that I have never been to Cape Cod. Someone who frequents the area may feel that this collection captures the mood of the Cape, even if it fails to provide much background for strangers.

Some things DON'T Change

I'm a Bypasser and wanted to know if my progress was similar to others. This book let me see that much has not changed in the 15 years since Change of Heart was written. The patients experience and complaints with doctors seems to be the same as today. The fact that women are under represented also hasn't changed and encourages me to write about the Bypass experience from the perspective of women and get their opinions, needs and feelings out there too. Doctors need to read this book. Too bad it's out of print. Check your library. Good reading.

I was a little dissapointed in the horror content. But the stories were interesting and very different. Not at all gory/splatterpunkish. If your looking for dark stories with different endings, these would be them
