This book (based on Aaron and Maria's song) has a lovely, timeless message for all mothers and children to read. In fact, I recommend that dads read it, too! The book comes with a single cd with the title song. The message is from their heart of hearts to your heart of hearts. It doesn't hurt to have a reminder of what all mothers do to keep the home fire's burning. A mother with maternal fire will love the message in this book/cd.

Three Wise Women, in its simplicity and color, retells the story of the visit by wise persons to the baby Jesus and the bringing of gifts that are human & practical...The gift of bread, of storytelling, and love shared! I am especially touched by this book because my 9 and 11 year old daughters found this book in our local bookstore and decided it was the perfect gift for their mother who is going on sabbatical. They recognized within its short reading that the women of the story are on a shared journey of the spirit. The illustrations,done in beautiful dark mystical colors, also lead you into this journeying. I am always looking for books for my girls and I to read that have strong female characters that look at life wholistically. Three Wise Women continues that collection for us. We also have a collection of Christmas books that have a home under the tree each year. The tradition of pulling them out each year and rereading the memories has made the stories become part of our collected memories of the season! Thanks for an excellent addition!

I wish I had had this book when my son was young and we were living in Oman. Most of the stories are set in Turkey, and are animal fables about three friends. In their sweetness and wisdom they reminded me of classic animal fables like Wind in the Willows, Arnold Lobel's Frog and Toad stories, and also of William Steig's books, especially Amos and Boris (in the way that creatures of enormously different sizes and origins become friends). When I first read the stories, I thought they were translations from the Turkish of traditional folktales because of the natural way they deal with eternal themes of friendship, death, the outsider, and the warmth of home. But to Hoffman's credit, they are actually original stories. The narrative constantly returns to the idea that education is essential to overcome hatred and misunderstanding. The exotic (to us) setting of the stories would have been wonderful for my son when we were living abroad -- both because it is fascinating in itself and because it brings home that these themes are at home everywhere. It's a lovely book for adults too.

An incredibly timely book given the world situation today and the American commitment to eradicate rogue state supported international terrorism, and written at a college level with heavy research and annotation, Trends In Outside Support For Insurgent Movements is a fascinating, albeit disturbing, look at political machinations around the world.

Turtle on a Post is a unique way to look at authenticity, personally and professionally. The author is among the first to isolate "what is real and true" in organizations and individuals. He deals with the leadership derailers of arrogance, diefication of the status quo, pretense, passive/aggressive behavior, silent consent and other cultural realities that prevent us from being genuine and therefore authentic. The graphics help to pin down central concepts.

Iris Berry has touched my life.

Iris Berry doesn't know me nor do I know her, but she knew a friend of mine. Iris wrote a poem called BAD BLOOD AND BITTERSWEETS and that poem changed the world I live in. She gave me clarity and hope, she let me know I wasn't alone nor was I the only one ever having felt this way. Iris if you read this I just wish to say thank you, your poetry is inspirational and loving. I lalso learned to avoid King Ratsass-

Excellent dialogue and a touchy subject matter dealt with grace and class. Perfect for understanding a young woman's psychotic tendencies.

If you want to know what a southern Indiana farm boy experiences in his induction, trainning and combat missions were like in World War II, buy this book. He was shot down on his 25th mission and became a POW for the last five months of the war. Excellent documentation about his military experience from day one to his liberation. I highly recommend this book if you are a World War II buff.
