Getting Results with MSP8 - PDF VersionReview Date: 2006-04-25
I had used earlier versions of MediaStudio several years ago, as well as other video editors (including some other Ulead products), but I realized that the manual that came with the software is largely a reference that tells you HOW to do something, but not WHY. It also won't be honest enough to tell you about deficiencies in the software or why NOT to do something.
The video I was able to produce has turned out so much better than I had hoped for, and even included techniques I hadn't even considered for this project until I tried them as part of the Getting Results exercises. In particular, I learned how to use a garbage matte with a moving path to seamlessly cover up distracting objects like a grand piano with lighting for the keyboard in front of the stage, and bright lights hitting the proscenium.
This is the first time I bought any materials to supplement the documentation that comes with a program, and it was well worth it. When I ran into a small problem with one of the exercises late one evening, I e-mailed the author and had a reply the next morning.
I would not hesitate to recommend "Getting Results with MediaStudio Pro 8" to anyone.

Outstanding book. I learned a ton from it!Review Date: 2006-10-28
I don't write book reviews because I'm rarely very impressed. This one is the exception. I learned more in 2 hours with this book than I learned in 2 years of working with MediaStudio Pro 6 and 7.
DO THE EXERCISES! Even if you're an old hat at this. I made myself go through each and every exercise and I learned things I never knew about MSP. The shortcuts are worth that alone.

A Great Tool for A Beginning Gymnasts Parents!!!Review Date: 2003-09-06
Great guide for gymnasts and parentsReview Date: 2004-07-10
"Gymnastics" gives you stories about famous gymnasts when they first started off, conditioning and stretching excercises to do at home, drills and excercises for landing safely, competition advice and information, information about gymnastics-related injuries, information about deciding your future in gymnastics, and much more. It is a very valuable resource that all gymnasts can benefit from. My only complaint is that it is a little bit outdated and it would be nice if a new edition was published. Otherwise, it's a fantastic book!
Gives a great reveiw about what it takes in the gymnastics!Review Date: 1999-08-05

THE Authoritative Book on BatteriesReview Date: 2003-02-26
The chapters are divided by battery chemistry, and each is written by an expert in the field. Most chapters include detailed technical descriptions of chemistry, electrical characteristics, construction details, applications, and pros/cons charts.
The 3rd edition features significant changes, including updates to older sections as well as new sections on progress in advanced battery systems, and an immense new section on lithium-ion batteries.
My only complaint is the lack of uniformity across chapters in terms of informational content and format. This can make comparison of battery technologies difficult. Some chapters go into too much technical detail, while some others leave out critical considerations.
These are relatively minor quibbles, however, and do not make the Handbook any less valuable to anyone dealing with batteries or other energy storage systems.
The most comprehensive battery almanac everReview Date: 2007-01-04
The downsides are that it weighs a ton and that the pages are so dense that you might as well be reading a dictionary cover to cover--a dictionary that's all about batteries.

The fact that there are examples of each 'fix' or procedure that is important is a goldmine of information. My favorite line was early in the book when Wes made the statement.
"If you don't have a firewall, stop reading this book right now and go buy or build one and implement it on your network."
Now, how many books actually tell you to put it down and go do something then show you HOW to if you run into problems or have some questions.
Wes really wants to help you in beginning those first steps to protecting your data and network all the while being able to talk to all levels who touch or SHOULD be touching security.
From the CIO/CTO/IS Manager all the way down to the guy sitting in from of a Cisco command prompt. They are all taken care of with this book in clear concise explanations and very easy to grasp diagrams..

By the way, my son loves this book so much he named our Little People hen Hattie.
Absolute Gem for inspiring early reading - repetition and anticipationReview Date: 2006-12-09
My younger kids (3 and 4) really enjoy this, they can read along and anticipate the story as it is repetitious and builds up great suspense. We can see the fox slowly forming out of the bushes, but the other animals are oblivious to it just going about their novmal business - until the fox comes out of the bushes!
The last picture is priceless, all the animals have been illustrated with enormous eyes literalloy popping out of their heads. My kids just love this book and I am so glad to see it has been reprinted.
The illustrations are vaguely reminiscent of the kind of artwork in the very hungry caterpillar (ERic Carle) but darker colours and more realistic. A truly lovely book and highly recommended.
Foxy loxyReview Date: 2006-03-05
One day Hattie, the resident big black hen, happens to look up and see a long reddish nose with a black tip sitting in a nearby bush. "Goodness gracious me! I can see a nose in the bushes!". You might think this kind of statement might provoke a bit of interest in the other farm animals, but it apparently does no such thing. The goose says "Good grief!", the pig says, "Well, well!", the sheep says, "Who cares?", the horse says, "So what?", and the particularly blasé cow says, "What next?". Well I'll tell you what next. Next Hattie happens to notice that the nose has been joined by two eyes in the bushes. Again the other animals say their customary responses. Even if Hattie notices a nose, two eyes and two ears in the bushes (she's always careful to say just how many body parts she sees), no one is paying much attention. About the time she gets to, "a nose, two eyes, two ears, a body, four legs, and a tail" she puts two and two together (no more, as needed) and screams out, "It's a fox! It's a fox!". The other animals apparently didn't see this coming and are provoked into a panic. All the other animals, that is, except the cow who lets loose a rousing "MOO!" that scares the fox away. The last two pages show utterly silent animals standing stock still as the text tells us, "And they were all so surprised that none of them said anything for a very long time".
A good readaloud picture book isn't afraid of a little repetition. What's particularly nice about "Hattie and the Fox" is that the tension not only escalates but takes on a kind of familiar series of steps. Mem Fox is doing something rather similar to that old Little Red Riding Hood storytelling technique of, "But Grandma, what big EYES you have" and drawing it out. The contrast between Hattie (who lives in spite of the fact that she doesn't recognize a fox until she sees the tip of his bushy bushy tail), the nonplussed animals, and the fox with dinner on his mind is reflected beautifully in the text. I like to think that any illustrator could have pulled off a nice book with this excellent writing, but Patricia Mullins style using a collage technique of tissue paper and conte crayon works particularly well. Firstly, the colors are marvelous. From the goose's bright blue eye to the red crest atop Hattie's head, the pictures burst with life. I've always suspected that books of repetition like this one must be particularly difficult to make images for. If the words are the same on every other two-page spread, how do you go about distinguishing between them? For Mulins's part, she likes to change her perspective, where the animals actually are, and how they are set up. She even drops in little details like the flies that buzz around the animals' heads. The dark eyebrowed fox for his part is definitely malicious. The only question that remains is why does he wait so long to pounce?
I guess I definitely fell in love with the book when I got to the last two pages. There stand six shell-shocked animals. You can't put a price on the horse's expression. Mister "So what?", has finally been put in his place. The pig also looks particularly appalled but the cow seems almost content. She was, after all their savior. So really, "Hattie and the Fox" has it all. Great reading aloud potential, beautiful illustrations, and a plot kids of many ages can get behind. Rather good stuff.

MacHome Journal's HotTips Book Of The Month Oct/2000Review Date: 2000-09-22
Book of the month for October 2000.
Of the plethora of iMac books released since the computer's inception, I found this the clearest and most comprehensive. I like the "DO" angle, as opposed to providing an endless list of technical information. It may not be the best choice for a power-user in a quest for in-depth geektech info (well... You should have the AppleSource CDs if you are a Mac professionnal!), but every beginner and newcomer would benefit from owning a copy.

Lee Raffel ends each Chapter with a small amount of homework. It helps for a deeper understanding and more important to get the connection to ones own life.
I do like that she extensively quotes other important books to the subject and in the vicinity of it. Lee Raffel even encourages her readers to read other peoples work.
I do recommend "I Hate Conflict" for reading, reference and for just spending time with it.
