We found this book at the local library and our daughter fell in love with it so we had to get a copy for ourselves. Hands down her favorite book - we read this to her every night and she's even able to recite the whole book. A fun, if a bit silly, book with very expressive illustrations.

Double Trouble

Two kittens mean double the trouble in this fun "rumble-tumble" of a book. The series of boisterous verses each end with the "skidoo" refrain:

Helter-skelter,
roll and bounce.
Skitter, scatter,
leap and pounce!
Kittens in the green grass-
one cat, two.
Here comes Dog, so ...
CAT SKIDOO!

The high-energy drawings-done in pen and ink and watercolors-catch the rambunctious kittens as they roll with a ball, climb a tree, create havoc in general and finally-curl up in their naptime basket.

"Cat Skidoo" delights in kitten antics to entertain and amuse the young of heart.

This is a great book for anyone who is a fan, but also a real treat for people living in the metro-Detroit area, as a few of the celebrities asked are local TV and radio stars. She wrote to a lot of people over the years and has a great collection of stars' heroes, from Soupy Sales to Les Paul and of course Davy Jones! It's neat to find out who inspired the celebrities to be who they are today.

What a great concept for a book!

Mary Guerra is an authority on fandom as she is a member of a fanclub or two herself. I know this since she belongs to the fanclub I run for Davy Jones, Davy Devotees. Though the concept of fandom is normally perceived as being something the nonfamous possess, Mary spent years contacting various celebrities asking them just who they consider themselves a fan of and what fanclubs they would join if they could! She received personal responses from legends in the field of entertainment like RoseMarie and Phyllis Diller to Les Paul, inventor of the electric guitar, Richard Petty, of racing fame, columnist, Liz Smith and "Mr. Hockey" Gordie Howe. Shirley Jones, Peter Noone and Mary's personal favorite, Davy Jones of The Monkees, are just a few of the many other highlighted celebrities. If you've been a fan of anyone at anytime, this book gives you an interesting look at who those we admire actually admire. At times the featured celebrities provide laughs and at other times intriguing revelations. Overall this is a fun read with a lot of heart!

This book is fabulous. My husband and I found it to be a quick, entertaining read. We particularly enjoyed the entry from Mike Clark, our favorite radio DJ. It's interesting to see what people celebrities find heroic, and it conveys more of an inside look into their personality as well.

Loved the book, couldn't wait for the next chapter. Easy to read. Turner has another book East of the Chesapeake and it is a must also. After you read the first one it's nice to check out his museum. In his books he has such an interest in people, he finds something interesting in anyone he seems to meet. Very enjoyable writer.

With the recent purchase of a 1926 farmhouse on Hoopers Island on Maryland's Eastern Shore, I wanted to learn more about life on the Bay. My family and I hoped this book would shed light on perhaps a gentler time, with a return to "the basics." William Turner has written a wonderful account of his life growing up on the Chesapeake Bay in the 40's and '50s. The stories are entertaining, with laughs, as well as gasps, as well as tears. My sons, ages 10 and 6, beg me to retell his stories on our drives to our new Eastern Shore retreat home. From bear sightings to pig butchering to duck hunting adventures to sinking boats in the dead of winter, William Turner paints vivid images in our minds of life on the Chesapeake Bay during a time of neighborly help and family closeness. He is an artist, and shares his sketches in this book as well, which further brings home the true meaning of his stories. This is a treasure!

What makes this page turner so remarkable is that it recounts actual events. If this were fiction, I would have dismissed the book as way too "out there" to merit a willing suspension of disbelief. Simply put, I would not have bothered to read such an outrageous "story" as Leonhard describes. But, as they say, truth is stranger than fiction. If you enjoy gripping drama, history, psychology, biography, suspense, and/or all of the above, this book is for you!

This book is beautifully illustrated and is filled with heart warming simple prayers for all occasions. My nineteen month old daughter cherishes every moment with me as I read from each page at bedtime. My daughter is developing a love for books and at the same time is learning to make prayer a part of her life. Many of the prayers bring back my own childhood memories of praying with my Mother and Grandfather.

A must for the Christian home!

The captivating illustrations alone would have prompted me to purchase this book, but what a joy to find such spirit-lifting content! Included were prayer favorites and some new ones for me. I had bought this book for my toddler but have found it a treasure to share with all the family.

This book's a real treasure.

I've always loved Michael Hague's illustrations. Once again, he's made a book a visual pleasure. His art brings the words to life. He's selected wonderful prayers that will appeal to children -- and to any older person reading to them. I'm probably prejudiced, since he included one of my favorites: "God be in my head, and in my understanding. God be in my eyes, and in my looking..." John Rutter wrote a beautiful choral setting of this prayer. I sang it once, and have been looking for the text ever since.

The board book means a child can hold and handle the book and "love" it -- helps make prayer part of everyday life (vs something distant or for adults only). A beautiful book -- and affordable.

I love Christmas books for children and when I discovered this one, I couldn't believe it. It is a definite heirloom and one to be shared with the entire family. This book was not totally set for the younger age group but for everyone. It isn't entirely encompassed with baby words and illustrations like others I've seen. The pictures are also quite beautiful.

This hardbound book is absolutely beautiful, consisting of wonderful illustrations based upon the gospels of Matthew and Luke (KJV).

The illustrator Gennady Spirin, is masterful, brilliant, and elegantly captures the essence of the birth of Jesus Christ.

The construction of the book itself, 33 pages in length, is designed for adults and mature children and is most definitely not a plaything for toddlers.

Purchase this book and establish a new and wonderful Christmas family tradition.

Michael Drosnin did an excellent job of deciphering all the memos that Howard Hughes exchanged with Robert Maheu (his chief of Las Vegas operations) and writing a cohesive story. He also interviewed many associates to obtain a true picture of what went on with Howard Hughes during his many years of self-imposed exile. I found it to be the most interesting and revealing book about Hughes that I have ever read. I worked for one of his companies for 30 years and I would highly recommend this book.

Essential book to understanding Hughes, his empire, his paranoia and his bizarre final years in isolation. Also a must-read for info on Robert Maheu and Richard Nixon.

Every American should read this book.

Drosnin's painstaking research makes this book THE most authoritative account of the later years of Howard Hughes. Students of politics will enjoy the tales of political bribery.

Citizen Hughes should be reissued for HRH's centennial in 2005.

I have never tried cajun cooking but after watching Lucy's show I wanted too! I ordered her book, and every recipe I've tried is mouth watering delicious! My kids will now eat "greens" because they are absolutely to die for. Ingredients are few, directions simple, and every single recipe turns out perfect! Lucy's book has put excitement into our meals again. You must try her book to believe everday, ordinary food, can be so delicious!

I have been cooking cajun foods for over 40 years and my mother before me. This book is so true to the authentic "French" cajun cooking found in homes in and around Lafayette, Louisiana that I sometimes am surprised at its accuracy. I watch Miss Lucy on PBS and this book follows her show. I just purchased two more books as gifts for my children and will give it to them as the truest representation of the preparation and enjoyment of "French" cajun cooking. On her show, her accent is alittle too corney but look beyond that and enjoy!!

A true "cajun" cookbook!!

This book is a treasure! I am from Southern Louisiana but now live in Colorado. I never really wanted to learn to cook when I was young, but now that I am older and a mom I want to pass on my heritage to my children. This book is very authentic. It is exactly like my mother cooks--with no weird ingredients. The recipes are fantastic and the commentary witty. It also has a glossary for those persons who don't understand some of the cajun terminology. This book was my "early" Mother's Day present. And, I couldn't be any happier.

This is a keeper! Your kids will love to have you read aloud from this book. It is a compilation of stories arranged according to age-appropriate listening levels. All are well-known stories from well-known authors. Many stories, particularly the longer ones, are only excerpts; the editor has deliberately done this to whet the listeners' appetite.

If you like this book, you will like its companions: More Classics to Read Aloud to Your Children, and Classic Myths to Read Aloud.

It's been years since I've read aloud from this wonderful anthology to my twin sons who are now 16. But they still remember vibrant, lively selections like "Half a league, half a league, half a league onward ... " (The Charge of the Light Brigade) and "The Ransom of Red Chief" (which they loved but didn't really "get" until they were about 13). I credit this wonderful book with providing truly excellent literature to feed their hungry young brains. This book is part of their current success in school and life! BUY IT for your child or grandchild - or donate it to your local school library!

My father gave this book to me to read aloud while we traveled in the car. I have 4 children -with different attention spans -from teenagers to a Kindergartener- they all listened!! I loved that at the beginning of the books it would give us words thay might not understand and definitions. I loved the idea of knowing how long it would take to read a particular story. Classics that I have not read in years and classics that I have never read were included. If you are going on a car trip this book is a must! Great idea for grandparents to give or have around to read when grandchildren come to visit.

It's obvious the authors know what they write about. Generating leads is the greatest challenge faced by those of us in professional services. This easy to read book provides a proven system to follow that any of us can (and should) do. Throughout the book, they ask questions to help the reader determine what sets them apart from competition; uncover the true target market and why they buy; develop the best materials to attract them; conduct the simple research to build effective marketing seminars; and generate leads that buy. I've developed my whole marketing plan following these steps, and it's working just like DeVries and Bryson said it would. This book remains on my desk within easy reach to keep me on track.

"Client Seduction" should be required reading for anyone offering, or planning to offer, professional services. Most of us in the consulting game are highly skilled and fully at ease in our professional specialty, but marketing and selling tend to give us headaches. Henry DeVries offers relief, with a simple, clearly presented procedure and a low-key selling approach we can live with. My partner and I read his book and made some changes in our marketing based on what we learned. We are already seeing results. This book has my recommendation!

A must for professional service firms

The authors have done a superior job in offering step-by-step guidance in business development processes for professional service firms. It's tough (if not impossible)to sell and deliver work concurrently: Henry and Denise take the reader through all of the steps, and offer a great "ladder" to new business. No need to reinvent the strategy and tactical steps from scratch with this fine work (best I've ever seen in my 30 years of business)
