English and literature teacher Raylene Hinz-Penner presents Searching for Sacred Ground: The Journey of Chief Lawrence Hart, Mennonite, the chronicle of a modern-day Cheyenne leader who strives to guide his people with a balance of Cheyenne tradition, Mennonite faith, and practical modernity. Thoroughly researched, drawn from extensive interviews, and sporting a chronology, references, and an index, Searching for Sacred Ground follows Hart's life from his boarding school education to marriage, service as a Navy fighter pilot, his efforts to teach others about Cheyenne culture, to his refinement of a respectful and deeply spiritual leadership style. An unparalled personalized biography.

Bright funny and wildly romantic
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-11-17
I loved this book, it is one of the funniest and most wildly romantic of Hart's marriage of convenience-style romances. This is about Deborah who is travelling in Indonesia when her belongings are all stolen. She is in a bit of bind already but now is even more so! Luckily - or unluckily Gil, an engineer who is living and working there is passing at the time and reluctantly helps her out.

To cut a long story short his fiance Debi has refused to come out to stay with him and he needs someone to help him with the work, and due to circumstances she needs to be married to him, in short, he needs a wife - a sensible wife.

Deborah really is not a sensible wife at all but she is prepared to try, only trouble is she doesn't really do what she is supposed to, she is hopeless at office work and typing and filing and all Gil seems to dois look at her in a disapproving fashion.

However Deborah is an enormously agreeable character and very easy to like and enjoy. You can see how the love grows between them. This very much reminds me of a Georgette Heyer romance. It has bright sparkling dialogue and good fun characters.

I love Carolyn Hart's writing. It reminds me of Agatha Christie. She writes great books with well drawn characters. They are meatier than most of the series out today.

An Excellent Sampling of Chinese Lore
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-04-26
This little book is an antiquarian gem, designed to present traditional Chinese folk proverbs to the casual or interested reader. It is by no means scholarly, nor does it strive to be. Gathered together here are the words one still hears uttered by the people of China on the streets and in the villages. Editor Henry Hart presents a broad sampling of proverbs covering topics like Women, Health and Disease, Wealth and Poverty, Virtue, Religion, Education, Animals, Friendship, Virtue and more. As you read these profound proverbs, some simple - some deep - and some humurous - your eyes will be opened to the wisdom of the Chinese people. The book is decorate throughout with delicate 17th century Chinese drawings in red ink. Peruse this treasure and you will agree that "Good sayings are like pearls strung together."

A superb novel of court intrique in 14th c England

You are very fortunate if you can find this book, along with the other five volumes of Maurice Druon's THE ACCURSED KINGS series of novels on the end of the Capetian kings of France. Novelized history in the best form (rivaled only by Sharon Penman's works) The She-Wolf of France covers the circumstances that finally led Queen Isabelle of England to usurp her husband Edward II's throne and have him killed. The characters are all well fleshed out, the text extensively end-noted with documentation of the chronicled events, the story lively and fascinating. I highly recommend not just The She-Wolf of France, but all of the Accursed King volumes to everyone with even a slight interest in history, mystery, murder, intrigue, romance, and tragedy

Lizzie Hart (aka Carolyn Haines and Caroline Burnes)writes an unusual Southern tale with a cast of eccentric but all too real characters. The descriptions are vivid, and the dialogue captures the Southern voice. For writers, Shop Talk explores the workings of a writers group in humorous way. Enjoy this fun and different read from a talented writer.

This is a fun picture book that is a "must have" for every homeschooling family's library! The illustrations by the author and her young daughters are adorable and the theme is one all too well known to homeschoolers. My kids loved it and laughed throughout. How fabulous for there to be a book on the market that reflects the lives of those who choose "the school of life". Thank you for representing us!

Immediately captured by the "Hands on" approach to God!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-03-24
From the beginning to the end, this book intrigued me as I devoured each page with full anticipation of the next bite! The author relates His experiences with God from a broad range of light humor to the deepest intimacy a soul can withstand. I was entertained throughout with the real life stories from a down to earth Texas preacher, who has certainly broken the mold of religion and has tenaciously sought after God with the stamina of an authentic cowboy, blazing trails without fear. This book has given me the permission to go wild in my pursuit of God and His presence. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
