This is a revised and expanded version of Thouless's 1930s classic "Straight and Crooked Thinking". Catalogs numerous fallacies, including some pervasive ones that, for some inscrutable reason, are ignored by most other books on logic and critical thinking. Explains why these fallacies are so persuasive and gives techniques for resisting and refuting them. Thouless was a psychologist as well as a logician, so his perspective is doubly useful. This book is out of print, but you can easily find a good used copy through secondhand shops on the internet (e.g, Advanced Book Exchange).

Howard Hart's poems inhabit that exotic place where color, music and modern psychological landscape meet. From Chagall to Paul Klee, from Mozart to Charlie Parker, from Hiroshima to midtown Manhattan, these poems create a highly lyrical, almost cinematic context from which to interpret contemporary American experience.

Leslie Hart's masterpiece powerfully indicts conventional education as far too brain antagonistic. He explains in convincing and compelling language the brain's patterning and programming capacities as essential building blocks if in a secure setting with adequate feedback. Clearly, the enormous amount of infant learning that occurs without worksheets, drill, lectures, teaching and all the other armamentarium of schooling provides obvious proof of how the brain's powers that can harnessed for far greater learning results. Hart pioneered the concept of brain-based learning and remains the clearest exponent of its functioning and how to use the brain's enormous natural processes.

In Human Rights, Equality And Democratic Renewal In Northern Ireland, editor Colin Harvey has gathered ten knowledgeable and articulate contributors to survey several key aspects of the Good Friday Agreement of 1998 which marked a significant departure from the incrementalism and dominate political logic of British constitutionalism. The contributors include Gordon Anthony, Andrew Evans, Colin J. Harvey, John Jackson, Stephen Livingstone, Christopher McCrudden, Kieran McEvoy, Linda Moore, John Morison, and Mary O'Rawe. Human Rights, Equality And Democratic Renewal In Northern Ireland is a benchmark publication and strongly recommended for students of the political complexities of contemporary Northern Ireland.

HUTCH OWEN: Unmarketable
Tom Hart. Top Shelf
Hart?s angry nonconformist Hutch Owen is a modern comics icon?a pissed-off homeless man who stands up for idealism and represents the individual against looming corporate hegemony. But the tales in this collection are not angry diatribes. Instead, they mix slapstick and verbal humor to create high-level social satire. In the first story, "Aristotle," Hutch pays for a cup of coffee by parading as a mascot outside his favorite coffee shop. His free-form rants catch the eye of his continuing nemesis, corporate head Dennis Worner, whose goal is to market the entire world into bite-sized, profitable chunks. The denouement finds Worner and Hutch in a helicopter over a desert "creativity camp" where Worner has sent his other lackeys for some toughening up, with disastrous results. "Public Relations" is a darker, 93-page tale set in New York in the aftermath of 9/11. Again, Hutch?s outsider freedom makes him, ironically, a prime spokesman for the "rebellion" that marketers use to sell their products to anesthetized consumers. This story is somewhat more complicated, and it doesn?t unfold entirely clearly as it takes a sympathetic look at traumatized people who are trying to find a way to survive in a commercial society. The simple art isn?t quite up to capturing the apocalyptic finale, but it defines the humor and characters well. Hart?s greatest strength is seeing all sides of the stories he?s telling. Hutch Owen doesn?t have any answers, but he has to keep raising the questions. (Jan.)

In the last several years i,ve been reading like there's no tomorrow . in that time, the words of approximately 1000 books have traveled through my mind (all western). at the end of each i write on the front page a short comment. some i"ve had to use a 3x5 card for more space. I,pearl heart is one of those books. the story will make your heart feel like you should jump into the book and help pearl get through life. i felt like jumping in and strangling some of the villians, hugging the very few good people. i am emotional anyway but was surely hopping pearl would find happinees by the end, or i,d burn the book. this was one of the best books ever.

Author Lou Barber has written another wonderful novel "Identical Harts" that is destined to be one of those books that you want to share with a good friend when you are done. It has a well crafted and thought-out story-line. The characters come alive on the pages. It is a book written to entertain and it will not disappoint the reader.
The plot deals with fates of identical twins separated soon after birth and given up to two different families to be raised. They each experience different lifestyles and lives independent of each other. The story is a compassionate and a skillfully told tale that will keep the reader fully vested in what happens.
The American Author Association gives this book its highest rating of FIVE STARS!
