I had great success using the galleys of Global Competition Law & Economics to teach comparative competition/antitrust law at the University of Haifa Law School during the summer of 2006, to both American and Israeli law students.

This textbook is the first and only one on the market that is extremely well suited for use in a comparative competition law or antitrust law class. When I taught comparative antitrust/competition law in Scotland a few years ago I had to put my own material together because there was no comparative textbook on the market suitable for classroom use. It is simply astonishing that, even though knowledge of European competition law has been important for a United States antitrust lawyer for more than a decade - and vice-versa! - until now there was no single volume that bridged these fields comprehensively. But at long last the market has filled this considerable gap - by producing Global Competition Law & Economics.

This is an extraordinarily teachable book that contains everything you might want to present in a comparative competition or antitrust law class. It always contained exactly what I was looking for - the relevant background, and both the similarities and the areas of greatest contrasts between the United States and the European systems. Moreover, it contains so much of each type of material that the instructor gets the pleasure of picking and choosing which of their favorite topics to cover.

Both the law and the economics are extremely clearly and interestingly presented. I used it to teach a class of students who has never before taken a class in antitrust or competition law. For this reason we had to omit much of the book's more sophisticated material. However, I have no doubt that anyone teaching an upper level class for students who already have taken a basic class in United States antitrust law or EU competition law would find this more advanced material extremely useful. Its mix of background material and state-of-the art material should make it similarly valuable for competition/antitrust lawyers who have an international practice.

I believe I speak for comparative competition/antitrust teachers everywhere when I say "thank you". Finally, the comparative book we have been waiting for has arrived. Finally, the comparative competition/antitrust field has a standard textbook to use. And what a wonderful standard it is.

My 17 month old grandson LOVES all things that move. The clear, bright pictures and limited text keep him asking to read it again and again.

Simon Hart draws the most colorful and playful illustrations for trucks. I bought the book at an extremely reasonable price and used the pictures to decorate my son's room. The book is 10x10" and I framed them in 12x12" frames. There is no story line, but just the name of the truck under the illustration, making it perfect for a toddler's attention span. The trucks included in the book are a dump truck, garbage truck, pickup truck, ice cream truck, fire truck, tanker truck, semi-truck, tow truck. I would recommend the book to anyone who has a little boy or girl who loves trucks.

God of the Labyrinth is the last of the Gerard Sorme trilogy, and in my opinion the best. It describes an author's search for background to his new book about the life of an 18th? century Irish rake. During the search the reader is gradually acquainted with the subject of Gerard's search, beginning with his raunchy lifestyle, followed by his increasing involvement in an occult organisation. Past and present eventually come together in an exciting last chapter. I recommend this book highly for it's easy read, it's gripping page-turning nature, it's interesting approach to narrative, and for its positive mood, which envelops the reader.

Although I am only moving to Paris in my dreams, this book has a lot of information that will help me understand Paris during my visits. If I were really moving there, I wouldn't do it without this book; the information is that important.

I was pleased to see that the man who bested Hannibal and established the might of the Roman military for centuries to come receive his due recongition. Lidell-Hart's book on Scipio Africanus reads more like an action\adventure novel. It will keep you wanting to read more while at the same time presenting a very accurate and modern portrayal of the great Roman general. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wishes a study in history, military strategy, or the classics as it will bring into balance the exploits of Hannibal and his eventual defeat at the hands of Scipio Africanus.

I read this book several years ago and am now buying it because I just couldn't forget it. It explains the extremely sophisticated technology of the so called "primitive people" who lived in the arctic. American and British explorers were always freezing to death with their "advanced" civilization, while these people lived and worked skillfully and in tune with their environment. It is a lovely book, well illustrated and well written, too.

The message in this book corresponds to the messages from Jonathan Edwards' sermons, especially regarding evidences of true saving faith.

Solomon Stoddards insights into the decietfulness of the human heart appear to be on a par with Jonathan Edwards' insights. But Solomon Stoddard reached me in a manner that J. Edwards did not. S. Stoddard seems to get even more face to face and personal with his applications than does J. Edwards.

Did I mention his insightfullness into the workings of the human heart?

I have read this book at least 4 times now.
I am reading the reprint by Soli Deo Gloria, which has several typos.
I bought this *original* version to compare with the reprint from Soli Deo Gloria.
This original reprint contains the funny old spelling where the 's' looks like 'f', and makes it a little slow going.

I think Solomon Stoddard in this book is a master physician of the soul, and I would heartily recommend this book to anyone who is interested in becoming a Christian.

Long before the Penguin Guide dominated the clasical music critic's universe -- and copycats like the Rough Guide to Classical Music, Classical Music Third Ear, and Gramophone magazine's annual compendium of reviews came along -- there wasn't much available out there for people that wanted to know where to start in classical music (then LP) buying.

Martin Bookspan, a New York critic that can still be heard on Met radio broadcasts and occasionally on a PBS performance from New York, wrote a book in 1970 called "101 Masterpieces of Music and Their Composers" about the most famous pieces of music. Inside he talked about the music and recommended a few recordings. Showing his provincial New York bias, Bookspan almost unverisally loved the recordings of Bernstein and detested the work of Karajan.

While Bookspan's book filled a need, it was only a beginning for anyone looking for help when searching for cheap gold among the stacks of LPs that were available in record stores in those days. Herbert Russcol was a horn player for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and wrote this book about 1969 at a time when low price LPs were suddenly everywhere, in part because the same companies kept churning out new LPs and had to do something with their older stuff.

Today, a lot of the LPs Ruscoll covered in his book are still available. I have noticed with much interest the reprise of Carl Schuricht's recordings of the symphonies of Anton Bruckner which have become available again over the past 5-6 years. Russcol rated two of these, the Symphonies No. 7 and 9, in his book. This should tell you something about the classical recording business -- recordings come and go, but good ones come and go...and come back again...and again.

Russcol's 1968 list of the complete symphonies of Beethoven (remember, this was the low-price recordings available in the late 1960s) included the sets by: Toscanini on RCA's discount label Victrola: Walter on Odyssey, a discount label of then Columbia (now Sony); and the Josef Krips-London Symphony Orchestra collaboaration that still shows up on discount CDs from time to time.

All these sets are still available today, of course, but in much better sound than on plastic in the 1960s. Russcol's book is full of great performances, some still available and some no longer available. Here's his 1969 review of one of my all time favorite recordings -- the Brahms Symphony No. 1 by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and Karel Ancerl:

"Ancerl and the excellent Czecks have strength and vibrancy; the music is always alive. Theirs is a first rate disc and has been praised by critics everywhere."

I bought that recording on the basis of this review. It was available on Parliament 172, a discount label of Supraphon, for $1.98 new. Today that same performance is avaiable on CD in the Ancerl Gold Series from Supraphon.

Anyone that has bought the Penguin Guide or Rough Guide or Third Ear or any other book of classical music criticism would profit by investing the few dollars people want for their used copy of this book. If you were born before 1960 you will learn that many of today's reissues were available back in the good old days for as little as $2-$3 new on discount LPs.

You'll learn about great old labels including London STS (Stereo Treasury Series), Angel (EMI) Seraphim, Crossroads (Supraphon), Heliodor (DG), Victrola (RCA) and the aforementioned Odyssey. These were among the best-selling LPs of their time for those of us with great desires but little money to support those desires.

You might learn about some old artists no longer famous that made splendid CDs of great music. Ever heard of the pianist Denis Matthews? He made a spate of great Mozart piano music on the Vangaurd label.

If you are a classical music buyer or collector, it's a good bet there's something in this book that will at least entertain you and, at best, drive you to Amazon.com to look for a recording or two you never knew exited that are really quite splendid.
