The decision of the House of Lords in Salomon v. Salomon & Co Ltd has had lasting influence on the development of modern company law. This one hundred year old decision articulated the founding propositions of company law and is accordingly treated with reverence by academics and practitioners alike. The centenary of the case therefore affords a convenient opportunity to review these developments in company law. In doing so, the contributors to this volume range broadly across the modern approaches to company law and attempt to place key aspects of the subject in a theoretical and historical perspective and to lay bare the structural, theoretical and policy issues which lie behind its day- to-day technicalities.

Alison Hart really knows what to write about. This book is about 4 roomate-Lauren, Jina, Andie, and Mary Beth--who are riding in an interschooling horse show against ten other riding schools. Everyone is excited but Lauren-she's scared to death of the jumping class she's assigned in. Mary Beth, although excited, has a bad case of the scaredy-cats and accuses Lauren of stealing her boyfriend. On top of everything, Andie makes a dangerous bet with a girl from a snotty school. Anyone could enjoy this book. Still not convinced? Well, read it yourself.

Creative Drama in Schools

Review Date: 2006-10-02
Gabriel Barnfield has been teaching drama in secondary schools and youth clubs for more than 20 years - that is creative drama.

He believes that children can be inspired to act naturally, give out unabashedly, and develop through such acting the full realization of their own deep emotions. Mr. Barnfield is of the opinion that when children perform on the stage in a highly structured play, they are so concerned about doing everthing just right and so worried about memorizing their lines that their emotions may be stifled. Over-involvement with correctness tends, in most cases to kill free expression.

In this book, Mr. Barfiled specifically deals with the teaching of creative drama. He explores the full renge of technique and clarifies each step.

Teachers who use this volume can be sure that the work Mr. Barfield describes has been tested successfully in schools.

It is important to be a critical thinker. There is no reason to accept any truth without first verifying it for yourself. If you are scared to question your beliefs - do you really believe them at all? I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It is one to read and re-read!

I read this book awhile ago and just reread it. (Note: It is published by iUniverse, not AuthorHouse.)

This book is great fun - a take-off on the B-movies and serial books that were popular years ago. I read it in one sitting and never stopped turning the pages.

As usual, Hart's research is impeccable. He gives us an inside look at the way a cruise ship operates but the details are wrapped inside an entertaining story.

This is the perfect beach read, or better yet, ship read. If you're looking for pure fun in a book, this is it.

A must-read for anyone who's depressed, Christian or not
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2004-12-09
This is the most helpful book I've ever read. If you suffer from depression (or love someone who does), this is a must-read. It will change your whole perspective on depression, will help you get through it, and could even save a life.

I strongly feel that "Dark Clouds, Silver Linings" is appropriate for Christians and non-Christians alike. The basic facts of depression are not dependent upon a particular spiritual point of view. While Dr. Hart refers to God throughout, he does NOT say that the way to overcome depression is just to pray harder or trust God more. His suggestions are practical, effective, and based on years of experience as a researcher and a practicing psychiatrist.

What I expected from a Christian book on depression was a guilt-inducing message like, "If you trusted God enough, you wouldn't be having this problem." Or perhaps, "Rejoice in the Lord always... and get moving." Instead, Dr. Hart explains how and why depression happens (and no, it's not a faith issue), and provides realistic ways to get through it.

Dr. Hart's central idea about depression is that *most* of it happens for a reason. Depression is usually a reaction to a loss of some sort. Its purpose is to get you to STOP and FEEL the emotions connected to that loss. When you understand that, you can give yourself the space to heal the underlying issue(s). This is not to say that he recommends wallowing in a slimy mess of self-pity. He wants to help you heal the hurt, then get out of that mess and move forward.

The author acknowledges that some forms of depression are biological in nature and respond best to medication. He sees medication as neither an evil nor a panacea. It's just a tool to combat a physiological problem.

The style of the book makes the information very accessible to the average reader. The last thing you want to do when you are down in the dumps is wade through a heavy book that is full of abstract information. Dr. Hart seems to get that. He uses a Q&A style to keep the information clear, concise, relevant and easy to find.

The book is not published on fancy paper, but give it a try. There is a silver lining out there, and this book will help you find it.

Dark Day of the Soul is grounded in a strong sense of the elements of story and aware of the path that must be traveled in order to connect the reader with the characters. The narrative weaves together interesting and unique plot points into a compelling and enjoyable read without resorting to extraneous devices to maintain the reader's interest. Shocking elements are not overly marinated in sentimental storytelling and are left to resonate with the reader for their own sake. When the writing begins to get thick with emotion, just at the point when the reader knows that a wrenching of the heart is imminent, the story allows that emotion to tackle us and then takes a gentle turn back to the more common interplay between the two protagonists and the friendship they hide.
Dark Day merges elements of conventional literary fiction with occasional, unconventional use of media interplay to carry the reader through an inspiring story of friendship and compassion. Conventional in the sense that this tale ambles along through a unique narrative, Dark Day is unconventional in that it incorporates television news commentary, radio news, and even computer transactions that read like international archive search information to propel its focus, namely what people will do, what danger they will subject themselves to, in order to protect what they love and cherish. Who would you die for? Or, harder to answer, who would die for you?

Bright Shines This Book!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-04-05
I went through a great deal of trouble to get my hands on this book after reading an excerpt in another book. I was so drawn by the glimpse I had of the main characters that I set out to find a copy, even though it was listed as 'out of print'/'out of stock' in most bookstores, and online. I was finally able to get a copy from a used bookstore (online via Amazon), and was rewarded for my tenacity with a beautiful, funny, and moving story! I absolutely loved 'Dark Shines My Love' - it's not every day one has the good fortune to read such an excellent story of a blind hero and a spunky, loving, and patient heroine. Blinded as a result of an accident when he was a child, Padric LeClerc has been locked in darkness and emotional pain for years; he held the world at arms length, and fed the local rumour that he was a dark, dangerous, and bitter man. Fleeing an abusive marriage, along came Callie and her small son, and their little kitten, looking for work & a safe place to heal, and finding this beautiful but wounded soul living in darkness, with only his memories for company. Afraid of being hurt again, he lashes out at all who comes near - but Callie, herself a survivor and recognizing his inner pain, sees the true man behind the mask, and sets out to 'show him the light' so to speak. Between Callie, her son, and the kitten, Padric does not stand a chance! Slowly oh so slowly the man comes out to play...and finds the unexpected! What a beautiful, moving, elegant story. Even the villain, the hated ex-husband, bent on destruction of Callie's new found independence and growing happiness, is memorable, for he is not your typical abusive husband, no 'beer gut' & stained clothing here - he comes, in fact, from the 'right' side of the tracks ($$$$)! If you can, get a copy of this book and prepare for it to make its way into your heart and on to your 'keeper shelf' - it's on mine! Thank you Ms. Hart!
