A scholarly perspective

I purchased this book along with "The Complete Tales of Uncle Remus." Together, they provide a reasonably complete basis for a thorough appreciation of the seminal work of this influential southern reconstruction folklorist, who obviously informed Twain's Jim in "Huckleberry Finn" and, in my opinion, is far too easily dismissed, today, as being politically incorrect.

By one of the best of the English diarists
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2004-07-09
Collaboratively compiled and jointly edited by Frances Harris (Curator of Manuscripts at The British Library) and Michael Hunter (Professor of History at Birkbeck College, University of London), John Evelyn And His Milieu is a compilation of fifteen academic essays with respect to the life and times of John Evelyn (1620-1706), one of the best of the English diarists. Each of the contributors are leading experts in their respective fields and draw upon The British Library's exceptional holdings of John Evelyn's books, manuscripts and family papers. John Evelyn And His Milieu is the first compendium of original research to fully explore the depth and diversity of this gardener, environmentalist, connoisseur, bibliophile, intellectual, and influential lay Anglican of seventeenth-century England. Indeed, no 17th Century British History collection can be considered either comprehensive or complete without the inclusion of John Evelyn And His Milieu.

This is a wonderful Movie. It gives a good understanding of the deaf world back in 1948 when everyone was thought to be Deaf & dumb or as the movie says "The Dummy". It shows a good understanding of sign Language and the courege we go through on a daily bases. I can not say enough about this movie without giving it all away. It is truely something to watch and own. For the Hearing, Hard of hearing & Deaf alike.

This is not just missionary pablum. This is true adventure. I found myself climbing cliffs, flinging scorpions and snorkeling right along with the author. I pictured myself living with this guy! The wonderful thing about this book is that the author humbles himself and tells his sstory, complete with warts, weaknesses, foibles and failures. It's a gripping story. I couldn't put it down. I was hungry for MORE! Get typing, Thom Harris!

A perfect selection of Gustave Dore's finest engravings

This book is small (6"x7"). But, Oh so wonderful. With each quote from Plato is an image from one of the most talented illustrators of the 19th Century. Dore's illustrations have such depth and detail they just about pull you into the page to experience the soul of the artist. I have seen this book with very clean reproductions and without. A must have for any Dore collector. Victor Osaka

An Amazing History
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-09-17
This astonishing book should be read by anyone with an interest in the history of lesbians and sexual practices in the United States in the last few decades of the 20th century. While it is about lesbian sex, WHAT is written and illustrated, and HOW it is written, make this book uniquely interesting -- more interesting by far than most similar books published today. The illustrations are breathtakingly explicit -- certainly more graphic than most other publications of the period. The writer is frank, outspoken, detailed to a fault, and very humorous! This must have been a most welcome indepth guide for women-who-love-women living in the 80's who were seeking information on "what to do"! A must-read!

A very busy farm dog converts a city family to rural life
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2002-02-03
A busy Airedale Terrier shows a city family how to live in the countryside. Junket is a calmly bossy terrier who has no intention of allowing his nicely ordered life to fall apart simply because his farm home has been sold to city folk. He soon has the McDonegal family - firmly in paw. Warm illustrations by Robert McCloskey enhance the cozy story.

A priest who really gave a damn about junkies

With all of the political talk about the drug addict problem, here is one man who tried to make a difference. Meet Father Danial Egan, a priest who is driven to protect and help female junkies. Action stories are pretty cool, but can be pretty hollow compared to the harsh reality of what one lone priest did day in and day out, trying to make the lives of female addicts better. It is a story of hope and upward struggle. A good read when you want to put your world into perspective.

This book is the most informative book I have seen on the subject of the dinosaur. It is written in a most readible style. The author clearly has studied his Bible and compares Scripture to Scripture to explain the time-frame best fitted for the dinosaur and why God created him. A Great Book!

It's ok to be mad; young children can relate.
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2006-01-06
Young children often want many things -- and they always want it now! Even everyday tasks such as a trip to the supermarket can give young children reason to get angry and frustrated... especially when they don't get their way immediately.

The book, "I'm So Mad!" tells the story of a trip to the store, through the eyes of a young child. The child goes through different emotions while picking out items with her mother. Shopping can be a fun experience, or it can make a young child angry and disruptive if they don't get their way. In this story, the little girl cannot buy ice cream when she wants...that made her very mad. It also made her mother mad, but their frustration turned to smiles after the young child accidentally knocks down a pile of oranges. They both share an emotional moment and clean up the mess together.

MyParenTime.com highly recommends this book for young children -- they'll enjoy the descriptive and colorful illustrations, and beginning readers will appreciate the easy-to-read text. This book is part of a new series of picture books called, "Just Being Me," which gives a child's-eye view of a child's everyday challenges, triumphs and experiences. Young children are sure to relate to the child in this story. Parents can use this book to help their children better understand their emotions, and explain how to best deal with angry feelings and not being able to get what they want when they want it. In addition, the story is the perfect length for very young children.
