I have been a school counselor in a private boarding school for 20 years. Every few years I reread this book to refresh my
work with adolescents. Although it was last published in the 70's, it is still relevent to today's youth. Developmental issues
of adolescence have not changed since then and Gallagher's advice for working with teens is still cogent. Occasionally, I
use this book to present a workshop for my faculty and they have never felt that the information was dated. If there is a
weakness in using a book published in the 70's, it's that it doesn't discuss the new issues with social networks, technology,
and video games that have arisen in the last decade. Cutting, school violence, etc were not a major concern like it is today.
So you will not get any insight into today's hot topics. However, you will get a good foundation in adolescent development
and emotional issues.

This was a labor of love. I took time off from being a "Rock Star" to make 5 audio projects for charity. My dear departed
friends Kate Hepburn and Jason Robards are brilliant. Ignore the critic above. He compliments my music yet insults the greatest
actress that has ever lived (and the most beloved). Multi-award winning. Every star in Hollywood, London, etc. owns this. You
truly will be enchanted. I am happy to answer emails concerning this project. Buy it, help sick children and enjoy! Craig

Beautifully written, depth of soul, awesome and inspiring are words that immediately come to mind. I love the emotion and
enthusiasm that vibrates throughout the book. It was a wonderful experience for me to travel vicariously with the author.

This translation (the Geraets, Suchting and Harris translation) is undoubtedly superior to the Wallace translation. One does
not have to do mental gymnastics to understand a simple point Hegel makes; the words flow fluently and coherently and are
easily understood (as compared to Wallace's translation, which requires a great deal of patience to make it through even the
simplest sentences). Reviewing the texts side-by-side (Wallace's 1975 Oxford edition and the Hackett 1991 edition) shows no
loss of content nor the complexity of Hegel's logic. The Hackett edition comes highly recommended.

The entries in this helpful encyclopedia may be brief, but no one would call them incomplete. From Marsel Proust to the methods
of assessing the memory disorders to the different kinds of amnesia, this is the book to consult first, whatever the memory-related
issue is. It's written in a concise, clear, and assessible language. In fact, it's just as interesting as any fiction book,
in my personal opinion. Definitely something to own.

Dear M. McMillin, your defense of faith gives no evidence of you having read the book you reviewed. It seems to me, that your
only goal was to place a bad feedback, not an evaluation of the content.
Lichtenberg, a german writer of the 18th century, once observed: "It is really a miracle, that people prefer to kill for their faith than living according to it.
Sam Harris points out that most religions contain dogmas of intolerance and hatred towards others (siding commandments of love for others). This is the reason he feels, religious faith is ethically inadequate.
At one point he remarks, that faith is the resource (when reason fails) to keep stuck on certain ideas. Or in other words: When our reason tells us, something cannot or should not be, we use faith to avoid an update of our attitude.
As I feel, you used your faith to avoid understand the book.

This collection is the most incredible introduction to opera imaginable. It is extremely easy to follow, riveting, and with
numerous breathtaking excerpts from live opera. It pulls you in and is ENTERTAINMENT - it is not at all like a documentary
or an educational tape. It does what it is supposed to do - entertains you while educating you without your knowing it!
Dale Harris will give you incredible insight into opera as well - and enable you to discuss the topic with anyone.
People think of opera-goers as snooty. This collection should dispel the notion. Dale Harris is both highly educated and extremely interesting - a marvelous speaker. Get these tapes - they will open up a whole new world for you - and entertain you in the process.
Incidentally, although Rossini's The Barber of Seville is my favorite opera of all time - amazing musicality and hilarious - I think that Dale Harris' other collection is the best one to start with for someone new to opera: it has something for everyone. All four of the operas in that collection are fabulous: Bizet's Carmen, Mozart's The Magic Flute, Puccini's La Boheme, and Verdi's La Traviata. But suit yourself - you can't go wrong with Dale Harris.

A little light/ a slant concealed/ Emily D's/ soul revealed

Emily Dickison is one of the world's most memorable poets. This selection of her writing introduces us into her epigrammatic
visionary verse-. There could not be a more appropriate person to introduce Emily, than another haunted inhabit of the deep
literary imagination- Joyce Carol Oates.
Dickinson's verse stings and remains seared in the mind . It touches earth and tries Heaven in oblique inferences which shatter us out of our mental slumber. In subtle perceptions of metaphor it addresses the fundamental longings and distinctions of the human soul. It defines and redefines our feeling , in contracted language which expands the meaning we give to our own everyday lines.
"Exultation is the going of an inland soul to sea
Past the headlands, past the houses into deep eternity"
