This book is a fascinating look into the minds of some outstanding conductors working today! I would highly recommend it for students of conducting and music lovers in general - Harris explores perhaps the most crucial and elusive aspect of music-making - the emotional aspect.

Great Encouragement

I was unsure of how to use the talent God had given to me due to fear and failure. Through this book I have learned how to have perfect peace while doing the work that God has for me. I can do it with assurance. If I never understood purpose and my mission before, I knew it before finished the 5th chapter (I read it 2 times), I was secure. Not only is this book great but the Author has a beautiful spirit and it flows through her writing. I gave my book to someone, and I had to get another copy. I have given several copies to other women who have been motivated. This is a real keepsake.

I was on the cover when I was 16!! Great pre-teen book!

This was my very first book cover 10 years ago. Today the book roles are reversed. I'm the single parent not the kid! I still love to go to the library to see the book on the shelf and my 6 yr old loves when I read him "Mommy's Book". Mark is a wonderful author and he did a beautiful job. This is a wholesome, genuine, down to earth great pre-teen book. A must for all aspiring young actors/actresses.

Captures the essence of this proud, passionate, and pious woman

Confronted By God: The Essential Verna Dozier by co-editors Cynthia L. Shattuck & Fredrica Harris Thompsett is a carefully selected assembly of the writings of Verna Dozier, a Christian African-American woman dedicated to speaking out for the sake of the poor, dedicating herself to spreading the idea of equality as God's great dream. Confronted By God captures the essence of this proud, passionate, and pious woman, and invokes both compassion and contemplation at length in the reader. "Has anyone called you a fanatic lately? And if they did, was it because you were so set on establishing a morality for someone else, or because you were intent on a private piety, or because you were willing to risk every known security that someone else might have a richer life?"

I admit, I have only read half of the articles in this book, particularly the Southeast Asia ones. However, I found them all to be interesting and very insightful. I particularly like how the authors focus on domestic politics as a driving force behind international environmental diplomacy. This is a very useful book for students of Asian environmental policy.

Mary Harris explains that anyone can become mentally ill--in fact, 20% of the world's population suffers from this illness in its various forms right now (alcoholism, depression, alzheimers, AIDS, abusive situations). By reading this book, you may prevent yourself from becoming one of its victims. Mary Harris tells us which mental attitudes cause it and which attitudes heal it. This is a spiritual book full of much wisdom written by a spiritual teacher. Mental illness is a worldwide problem. How to Restore Your Self is well worth reading for prevention as well as recovery.

Applied Emotional Intelligence for the Consultant!
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2001-06-08
I reviewed this book for the 7EQ.com newsletter. Here is what I wrote: Whether you are working as a consultant or are planning to become one, this book is for you! It really covers all aspects of what it means to be a consultant. Maybe that's why this book ended being 375 pages thnk, in stead of the initially announced 250 pages. Carol Harris knows what she is talking about: she has been an independent consultant for the last 15 years and wrote 4 other books. The first and second chapter discusses the kind of competencies and attitudes a consultant needs. Chapters 3 to 6 discuss what is means to set up as an independent consultant, how to promote yourself etc (maybe you conclude from these chapters that you would be better of to be working for one of the consultancy agencies). The rest of the book teaches you skills related to practical aspects of being a consultant, such as self-management, helping other to develop, writing skills, etc. In short in this book you'll find what a consultant needs to demonstrate in order to be successful. Of course, I cant resist mentioning that for other areas of live, my book "7 steps to emotional intelligence" will be complementary!

This book was written by my great uncle who was a great biblical scholar- he has been a contributor to multiple translations of the bible, and passed away recently. This work is essential for study of the basis of biblical inspiration and canonicity.
