Cecil Harris is a beat writer for a Westchester County NY paper who recollects about his journalistic days covering the Yankees
in the mid 90s, including the '96 season, as well as his past in living in a household filled with Met and Brooklyn Dodger
fans. He describes about the time he became interested in the Yankees and shares his beliefs as to who are the 'true' Yankees
today and in the past, as well as his favorite of all-time: Horace Clarke, a second baseman from the 60s-70s. Harris also
offers a clear picture of how race plays a role in the game even today and what effect players have used the race card in
interviews with Harris. Overall, I could not put this book down and I recommend it to anyone whose a true baseball fan, not
even a Yankee fan per-say (but it does help if you are a Yankee fan!) Not only is the book a fun read, but your emotions
will get the best of you when he recalls his immediate family and the memories he has of them through the sport of baseball.
An excellent book overall - thanks Cecil Harris for your thoughts and wisdom.

This work pulls together a wide range of material covering the history of Buddhism in Cambodia. Considering just how bare
the book shelves are on this topic, I can only jump with joy that it has appeared. Problems with the historical record are
carefully pointed out with ample references and cautionary notes for those who would look further. This book should be an
essential part of anybody's collection on the development of contemporary Buddhisms in Southeast Asia. Just one small point:
there is a most welcome inclusion of oral histories (for example with reference to the origin of place names - but there is
insufficient warning that there are often many legendary origins for names - a case in point is the origin of the name of
Phnom Sambau and Phom Krabau - certainly Harris is correct, but this is not the only version by any means. Highly recommend
this book to anybody interested in the area but would equally strongly suggest reading it alongside Marston and Guthrie (2004)
to round out some aspects of modern Buddhism.

A Well Worth Read for Anyone

I picked this up at Heathrow Airport on impulse. It stayed by my bedside for 9 months unopened. I even began to wonder why
on earth I had bought it. Then, one day I went to bed early but couldn't sleep so picked up the book hoping it would help.
Chance would have it that once I started reading it I could hardly put the book down. It was one of the most frank and descriptive
auto-biographies I have ever read about someone who seems to have been around (and about) forever. In comparison, the WWE's
Stone Cold Steve Austin Autobiography was something I was longing to read but came away feeling 'short-changed'. But this
one, not one little bit and I sincerely recommend it to anyone who likes autobiographies. Even if you don't know who Rolf
Harris is, you will after reading the book. So, should you ever read this review Rolf, I just want to say "Thank you!" for
sharing it all with us.

Harris has a unique knack for planting the barbs where they'll do the most good. Other collections of his cartoons have addressed
science and the professions with understanding and humor. This time he turns his eye on the ivory tower, with delightful effect.
Sometimes he addresses public education: "Compulsory education is a myth. We may be compelled to teach, but very few of them are compelled to learn." Oh, how disturblingly true. A building labelled "Lincoln Standardized Test Center, formerly Lincoln High School" has special meaning in debates about teaching as test preparation instead of teaching as education. The senior college professors get their share of attention too, like the one telling his friend, "After being here for more than forty years - as undergraduate, graduate student, instructor, professor - what saddens me most is that this was not the college of my choice."
This book was published by the Rutgers University Press - clearly, they consider Harris's jibes as basically friendly to educators and education, even if there's plenty to laugh about. What really impresses me, though, is that all of these cartoons are to the point and topical, even though they're all more than fifteen years old at this writing. Humor about current events usually ages fast. Harris's jokes about events of that time are still current today; a few may be even more poignant now that when they were first published.

Having visited Cephallonia twice, 1984 and 2000, we were amazed to receive this book for Christmas and fell in love with the
island all over again. The book gives you a well-written history but "a picture is worth a 1000 words" is so applicable here.
There are many other beautiful areas on Cephallonia then are dipicted in the book (there must be a limit somewhere) but I
hope anyone who really reads this book will have a burning desire to see one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
An absolute must to truly see the island is to rent a car and allow several days. Otherwise you will miss a lot.

The new book by Peter Harris reviews the properties of carbon nanotubes and clarifies their promise as revolutionary new materials
for the XXI century. Harris has written a most readable and useful book, which contains a wealth of up-to-date information
for specialists and non-specialists. The book highlights the main challenges that have to be overcome if carbon-based nanotube
technology is to fulfil the exciting, indeed revolutionary, promise that the already-known properties forecast........Times

Though a children's book, this biography of the First Family of Country Music will be of interest to music fans of all ages.
I would encourage everyone who dreams of being a part of today's country music industry to read this book about the genre's pioneers. The Carters had staying power.
Many of today's country-music fans and even most people on Music Row don't know their country-music history. Boning up with Stacy Harris' book would be the place to start!
