Great Book on Ancient Egpyt

This is one of the best, most informative books I've ever read. I am teaching my son about ancient civilizations and came across this book. I picked it up and couldn't put it down until I finished it. The book contains serially related myths from ancient Egypt and is written in a very engaging style. The author is clearly an expert on ancient Egyptian civilization and writes very well. The chapters are of a length appropriate for bedtime story reading as well as for school-related activity. Furthermore, there is a nice taxonomy of the ancient Egyptian "pantheon" and an interesting, if too short, discussion of glyph writing. The text is beautifully illustrated and has interesting footnotes about many of the illustrations.

How did Osiris die?
Who took the throne then?
Who is the eye of the sun?
How was Egypt made?

You can find all the answers in this book. Through this amazing novel, many Egyptian myths are told with dramatic pictures and excitment. The myths in this book are the most exciting myths out of all of them. Even if you read the book once, you'll want to read it agian! Each story will capture your imagination each time.At the end of the book there is also a short lesson on writing hieroglyphics. All in all, this book adds up to be the best book I've ever read.

Mr. Harris wrote a very enjoyable book. It is written in such a way that you feel like you are there. The book is a combination of fact and fiction, in an attempt to connect Sir William Phip's to the unsolved question "What is buried under Oak Island, Nova Scotia". It will be interesting, once the Oak Island mystery is solved, to see just how close he was. Anyone interesting in the Oak Island mystery will enjoy this rendering.

Sheer Delight!

What a wonderful book! Once again Mr. Harris has displayed his inimitable skills as storyteller and wordsmith. And what a delightful story it is! Transporting the reader back three hundred and fifty odd years is not at an easy task at the best of times but Mr. Harris succeeds with such a degree of realism that one cannot help but feel an active participant as the various and history-changing events unfold.

This is truly a wonderful tale exquisitely told, only the true historian would be bold enough to attempt to seperate fact from speculation, so well woven are the characters and events that make up this fascinating tale. Mr. Harris has an uncommon knack for capturing the reader and keeping them spell-bound right through to the last page. This indeed, is a very difficult book to put down.

If one may mention a niggling but hopefully constructive criticism it is simply that this tome cries out for some illustration ~ period maps would be extremely helpful, along, perhaps with sketches of the main characters, dwellings, ships, etc., etc., etc. This would, I respectfully submit, draw the reader even further into the somewhat difficult (at least, for some) life of the seventeenth century. Perhaps in the next printing........

Over Labor Day weekend I experienced The Great Circus Train Robbery. Zoe really wants to move up in the ranks of her brother's elite Northern Spy Club. Her mission is to find Spence's favorite model train car: an antique red baggage car. Unfortunately for Zoe, suspects abound. From the reclusive next-door neighbor to the funky dwarf clown to the energetic monkey with a penchant for the color red. Can Zoe find the car before estranged brothers Juniper and Hackberry come to blows? From the outset, Nancy Means Wright's The Great Circus Train robbery is a fast paced, fun romp. Your kids shouldn't miss this story!

Fun, Page-Turning Sequel to Pea Soup Poisonings!

Who stole Spence's antique circus train cars? Was it Juniper Boomer like Zoe suspects? And, where does Hackberry the circus clown fit into all of this? There are more questions than answers as Zoe is determined to solve a mystery in order to become a lieutenant in her brother Kelby's Northern Spy Club. Zoe is a daring and adventurous girl, while her friend Spence is determined to solve the mystery of his missing train cars. Together they do an amazing job of deduction and of following clues until the mystery is solved.

Nancy Means Wright continues her award winning adventures of Zoe Elwood, girl detective, in this fun and page-turning sequel to The Pea Soup Poisonings. It is well plotted and the characters are likeable and fascinating like Sweet Gum the monkey with pierced ears. The setting in Vermont, as well as the behind the scenes in the circus are fun to get to know. Readers age 8 to 12, will delight in this book and all of Zoe's adventures. All readers will eagerly want yet another in this series. What a welcome addition to a home or classroom library!

An Awesome Fantasy!

Ignored by his family and friends on his twelfth birthday, Clark is taken from Earth to a world that is special and magical. The Paradise is a place where leprechauns and dragons live. But, a menacing dragon named Sorare-wre-dah, wants to destroy the Paradise by being the first to find and use the Orb of the Leprechaun. Clark, and his new friend from the Paradise, try to reach the Orb of the Leprechaun by locating a series of clues that had been left behind, and restore peace to the Paradise.

I loved the use of actual locations intertwined with an astounding fantasy world! This is pure excitement and has a youthful energy. This young writer of 14 is definitely one to keep an eye on!

I loved this book; you should all read it. I think Clark is a hit. The morales of honesty and truth shine true throughout the novel with smash action and great mystery. The author, who is in fact 14 years of age, has spectacular talent that weaves an intricate whodunnit tale full of fantasy and adventure. All in all, the story is a fascinating treasure hunt about Clark and his dragon friend (Shawn-wan-ray) finding a legendary object known as The Orb of the Leprechaun. Read and enjoy!!! Reading level is bound to be Middle/Junior to High School reading level.

This is a practical and "easy to use" book. For anyone who has to work with other people (isn't that most of us?) this book offers a clear map to navigate the process. Filled with worksheets, charts, and carefully outlined steps, it addresses every part of the collaborative process. It includes activities to get others on board with collaborative initiatives. I highly recommend it.

Extremely practical and useful

Any leader who is interested in achieving a competitive advantage for his or her company needs to have this book on his/her desk. This is the first book I have read on organizational design and redesign that is so practical and useful. It outlines a sound model for the strategic design process for companies to move toward collaboration. But the book's real value is in its numerous practical worksheets, charts, pictures, assessments, and exercises to help leaders, change agents, or consultants guide organizations in moving more toward collaboration.

The simplicity of this book makes it useful in many arenas -- as I said, it would be useful for managers, leaders and consultants in guiding organizational change. It would also be useful as a textbook for business or management classes in organizational change. Students these days are craving practicality to go along with the theory they learn -- this book offers both.

What a great book! This book is very well written with an extremely smooth transition from the 1940's to the 1980's as a family saga weaves its way through three generations. Very informative and a totally different approach to the horrors of the Nazi concentration camps of WWII. It has very interesting information and insight into the Gypsy culture and lifestyle. In packs lots of history into a great story that is hard to put down. This could easily be a wonderful movie!

Should be an Oprah book,,, excellent quality story.

This is an excellent history lesson about how the Nazi's treated the gypsies. The story is gripping, entertaining, and mesmerizing. I seldom read a book that I can't put down but this one kept me thinking of reasons to read on. If Oprah read this book it would be on her book club list. You won't be sorry you order this book. The suspense carries you to the ending. It left me wanting MORE books from this author. Buy it now.

My one year old son started reading this book when he was 10 months old. It quickly became his favorite book and it still is! He loves the touch-and-feel fun of this book. His favorite pages are the "pigs's curly tail", where he gets to pull on the little pink elastic tail and the "letter in the mail", where he gets to take the letter out that says "I love you". He enjoys the letter so much that he's nearly torn the letter. We have since then laminated the "I love you" letter so it'd stay one piece. He also loves the glow-in-the-dark surprises on the last two pages. Overall, this is an excellent book for little hands to explore!

As a valuation consultant for many different companies, it is imperitive to fully understand the industries within which a company will interact. As a precursor to NAICS, the SIC classification offered the best understanding of industries. However, as industries have expanded, so to has the need for another, more descriptive classification. This book is by far the best guide to the new NAICS code, and is a must for anyone in business. It clearly leads you from the old SIC code to NAICS, and then describes every nuance of the new system, allowing anyone to become a pro in no time.

Huge-Time Saver! Extremely User Friendly!

As someone that uses industry data on a regular basis, the switch to NAICS from SIC codes has been as helpful as it was inevitable. This book helps me capitalize on the transition. It is very informative, has a nice layout, and is easy to navigate through.

Robert Lloyd, a poet and fledgling newspaper founder was desperate. His publishing venture was more expensive than he had realized. Incarceration in a debtor's prison was a very real possibility and he has fallen in love with the beautiful and daring Patience Churchill.

Patience is fascinating and "the woman of his dreams" but "Patty" is determined to become a member of the Hell Fire Club, the secret order of Franciscans founded by Francis Dashwood and some of the most famous men of the eighteenth century. Robert is convinced that she doesn't realize what a woman's initiation to the infamous and decadent club would involve.

Agonizing over his problems, Robert is walking along a country road when he is struck and thrown unconscious to the road. When he wakes, he is in 1999 and a beautiful woman named Pat is holding his hand.

As Robert struggles to understand what has befallen him, he becomes an unwilling traveler through time, thrust into the future from events in 1762 and then dragged back again.Robert must find a way to save Patty from the defilement she will suffer at the hands of the Hell Fire Club members during their sacrilegious initiation ceremony and resolve whether his love is in the 18th or 20th century.

Michael Dennison has woven a complex story of love and lust in a time when great men and their ideas were changing the world and society. Set against the historical events of England in 1762, Hellfire is a spell binding story about lovers and sinners and the dramatic events of one evening in 1762 that changed so many lives.

This publication receives 5 stars for usefullness. If you are planning a course around the theme of the Hero's Journey (ala Joseph Campbell) or looking for curriculum support that will help your students understand archytpes in fiction, this book is for you. There are many ready-to-copy handouts, including a student workbook. Source material, rubrics, and clear lesson objectives are included. Better yet, the driving purpose behind these materials is for students to connect litertature to thier own lives. As they learn to see the patterns in stories, they see that each of thier lives is also a journey full of chanllenges and trials. Great material for a capstone course.
