The Hades Moon is a "must read" book for anybody with Moon-Pluto aspects in their chart. You will never think of this aspect in the same way again. With its fascinating case studies ( the Kennedy family, John Lennon, the Bronte family and more) it is a compelling read.It is a very profound book that delves into the depths of the plutonian experience, revealing not only the darkness and pain of Moon -Pluto but all its phenomenal pontential. I loved it and it changed me deeply.

This book is incredibly well written and well researched. It deals with those of us who have the planet Pluto in aspect to our moons. As a person who has Pluto opposing my moon, Pluto ascending and venus in scorpio, this book helped me understand that I am sane, after all! You will have a rich reading experience if you have intermediate astrological knowledge, but even a beginner will really enjoy the explainations in this book. Ms. Hall is an easy to read, poetic writer. I highly recommend this for your Astro-bookshelf.

Judy's book is an indepth study of Pluto and the Moon along the same lines as Jeff Green's 2 Pluto books. Judy is an excellent writer and astrologer. As a practicing astrologer for over 13 years, I highly recommend this book.

I read this book many times in the past. It helped me to face the process that I was going through. After that I gave the book to a darling friend but could never forget it since there was some occasions I wished just have little consultations done. Now I am re-buying it and anxious for it to get in home since I got even more mature and I am sure some passages won't shock me at all.

Review Date: 2007-01-17
Though not concise in length (with its 1500+ pages), this reference book provides all major sections of modern mathematics, from arithmetic and elementary functions to integral equations and math statistics, in a very clear and concise way. Definitions and theorems, formulas and methods, graphs and tables, equations and solutions--all I may ever need as a researcher--are brought together in a single book.

Compared to the famous math handbooks by Korn & Korn and Bronshtein & Semendyayev, it gives a much broader and more detailed description of solution methods, classical and new, for ODEs and PDEs, and also integral, difference and functional equations.

And the extended and well-organized tables in the second part of the book impressed me even more. They include those of finite sums, series, indefinite and definite integrals, direct and inverse integral transforms (Laplace, Fourier and Mellin), and exact solutions to ordinary differential, partial differential, integral and functional equations and more.

The 58-page long index makes the book even handier and easier to use.

I am happy to have a copy of this handbook on my desk.

This hefty book can be a very useful reference to practising professionals in engineering and science. It brings together numerous formulae and principles scattered throughout many textbooks. While it might sound strange to call a book of this length concise, in actuality, each section on a given subject is indeed so. Compared to you having to delve through entire texts on that subject.

The treatment of numerical methods is also good. In recognition of many of us having ready access to computational power these days.

The price is slightly high. But a book like this, you don't need to get every new edition. By its nature, it should be infrequently updated.

Mary Montague Sikes clearly shows her love and understanding of Jamaica and its culture in _Hearts Across Forever_. A riveting paranormal romance, the book also delves into the fascinating world of Obeah, Jamaican voodoo. Set against this complex backdrop, the romance of Kathryn Calder and Flynt Kincaid, both New York executives, unfolds. The reader feels compelled to keep turning the pages to discover the connection between Kathryn and her mysterious visions of Rose Hall...and how does Flynt fit into it all? This reader devoutly hopes that Sikes will continue to write such engaging books, and that she will consider creating one about Aimee White and Rose Hall Plantation as it was.

When Kathryn Calder and Flynt Kincaid of New York City are transplanted to Jamaica, their attraction to the supernatural flavor of society they find that includes voodoo and native magic whets the appetite of the reader to learn more about its culture as well. Unexplained feelings of familiarity with Rose Hall and reocurring dreams that match its history baffle and terrify Kathryn. Flynt fears for his friend's safety as she is drawn to find out more about the scenes of these dreams and paintings depicting them. A computer expert on special assignment, Kathryn has always been a strictly level-headed career woman. Is stress getting to her or does she really have a former attachment from another time to the famous Rose Hall plantation with which she is obsessed that is now a tourist attraction. This is a page turning, hair-raising story that rivets the reader to the book until it it finished.

"Hearts Across Forever" by Mary Montague Sikes is one of those books you rarely run across. It's really a page turner. It includes an exciting romance, the right amount of the supernatural, mysterious happenings and strange religions that make this book well worth the read. The romance between two New York executives unfolds in Jamaica where the beautiful setting makes a fine backdrop for fascinating, and sometimes frightening, happenings. We hope Sikes writes many more books like this for us to read in the future.

First, Thank You Amazon for your speedy delivery. I had this book in 3 days.
I purchased this book not to become a vegetarian but to learn to cook healthier foods. I must say that after reading and trying the recipes Lyndsay and Ariane did a wonderful job. This book actually informs the reader on the health benefits of a more natural diet using whole grains and more fruits and vegetables. They do not say you have to be a vegetarian they just give you information and guidelines for a healthier lifestyle.
If anyone has tried Vegetarian cookbooks before (as I have), and thrown them out because they were complicated with ingredients you can't find, try this book, I had almost everything in my kitchen already, there are no funky things to go out and find, and my sons (9 and 11) have decided they like soy milk better than regular milk. Best book I have ever purchase. Thanks goes to Lyndsay and Ariane.

I found this book to be both entertaining and informative.

I was pleasantly surprised at how the information was presented in this cookbook. The authors expressed their desire to create a cookbook that contained not only great recipes but also useful information presented in an interesting manner. They have succeeded. Although I am not a strict vegetarian, I can say that I am not much of a meat eater. This book has helped me with ideas on how to use meat substitutes in a way that is tempting even for my meat-eater husband. All I can say is Bon Appetit!

Pleasantly surprised! This book is both fun and informative

The copy we received was a third edition, and it is very nice. Lots of information and nice photographs of the art. I have looked at the fifth edition in our local library, however, and I would say it is a great improvement. Some expanded sections, and more color photographs. All in all a great introduction to art history for kids or adults.

This is a wonderful book and, in my humble opinion, a better book for most users than the big textbook edition "History of Art". The only complaint I have about this edition is its name; I feel it should be titled "History of Art: Concise Edition" as "History of Art for Young People" makes it sound too much like a children's book. While certainly suitable for an intelligent child, it is a superb art overview and reference for all people.

If you desire a general art reference you won't go wrong with this gem and you'll not find anything better. I have the 3rd edition also and it is excellent but this 6th one is greatly expanded (e.g., lots more photos and color) while retaining the user-friendly nature of the earlier editions. The text is clear and interesting, not written in the dry, boring style of a textbook. The printing and reproductions are top-quality. This art book is truly itself a masterpiece!

I needed to find a few good sources for an art history report and was lucky enough to pluck this book off the shelf at my local library. I ended up finding most everything I needed just in this book and was amazed at the detailed coverage of the history of each induvidual peice. I loved it so much that I bought it for myself, and it has probably been the best purchase I've ever made. The writing is excellent, the coloured pictures make it easy to distinguish certain important aspects of the art, and the background history on the artists, the impact of music, philosophies, or simply the work makes it the best all-around book on art history (especially for students) that I've ever read. It helps the reader to understand how the other influences of trade, literature etc. helped form periods in art history so that they may have a better understanding of the work in general. I would highly recommend this book to anyone in an art history class or any fellow art lover, it's wonderful.

Art history for any age

As an art student in college, I slogged my way through several art history volumes, including Jansen's History of Art.Twenty years later, when attempting to revise an art enrichment program in my children's school, I was fortunate to come across Jansen's History of Art for Young People. Don't mistake the title as a reference to chronological age, but rather as aimed at anyone in an early (young) stage of fine art study. The book begins in prehistory and travels through to post-modernism, covering not only the art and artists, but the historical events that influenced the way the art developed. The text is very readable, with lots of key definitions, tables and line-illustrations right in the margins. There are four date based charts that organize the key achievements in Religion, Politics Science, Architecture and Art, emphasizing that art does not develop in a vacuum. Illustrations are well chosen with a fair number of color plates and sharp black and white pictures. Every page has some sort of visual aid, which makes it a pretty pleasant read for students. I highly recomend this book whether as a reference for learning about a particular artist or style, or as a foundation for designing an educational program. Jensen helps one turn the bits and pieces of art data that we all accumulate into a comprehensive sense of the breadth and influence of art in civilization. The depth of information is deep, but not so overwhelming as to drown the reader. If I were to make any criticism of this book, it would be only that it doesn't title itself as a history of WESTERN Art, which leaves an even larger portion of the world still unexplored.

This wonderful collection of non-fiction essays is a must have for anyone, regardless of sexual preference. Each essay beautifully describes the heartwarming celebration of love between individuals in their voices. These brave couples became part of a civil rights movement like no other in US history in the early spring of 2004. Each story is well written and invites the reader into the most intimate moments of shared love, desire for commitment, struggles and triumph. Poignantly expressed, there is no doubt this is one of the best books I own. Impossible to read without wishing for more, one can only hope there will be more like it in the future.

A powerful look into the lives of committed same-sex couples

Review Date: 2005-09-26
Cheryl Dumesnil has done a magnificent job of collecting stories from couples that were legally married at City Hall in San Francisco during the "Winter of Love" in Feb-March 2004. The book covers stories of people ranging from those who were not married but participated (one has young as 18 years) to couples married for over half of a century. There are mixed-racial couples, couples coping with disabilities, young activists, a man who lost his partner to death but still helped all of those at City Hall to marry, couples nearly married who were heartbreakingly turned away on the steps of City Hall, couples together a few years, and couples together for over 50 years. Some couples jumped at the chance to marry -- others struggled with timing, and with the decision if official marriage would really cement an already strong relationship. The introduction by Rosie O'Donnell taught me that straight couples aren't forced to testify against each other in court, but gay couples are. I was continually reminded of all of the rights that are currently not afforded to committed, tax paying, loving couples of the same gender, and their children, in this country of "freedom." I laughed, I cried, I ached for the people in the book -- and for myself -- to be given chances for true equality. This book truly captured the feelings of those at City Hall (I know, I was there). The outpouring of love and volunteerism from straight and gay alike is something I, and others involved, will never forget. If you want to know more about the lives of some of the people involved in the "Winter of Love", this is a must-read.

This book is a treasure, and most especially for an audience that may not be so familiar with the cultural, political and emotional importance of what happened at San Francisco City Hall last year. Editor Dumesnil was able to let the real voices of each stories' writer shine through, while skillfully making room for both the romance and the facts.

I say, mail this book to every politician, policy maker, religious leader and straight family you know to help them be inspired by what is really fueling the fight for marriage equality - love and the importance of family!

What a gorgeous book. I just finished reading it and had to write this review. Imagine there were a special celebration of heterosexual marriage somewhere in the U.S. Imagine that straight couples who went there for the celebration would have to wait in line for hours in the rain and face heckling, hateful protesters, and even then might not get the special recognition of their marriage, their lives together in love, that they had been waiting for. Imagine how much in love any couples who would undergo that trial would have to be. Now you have a sense for the kind of love you can read about in Dumesnil's book. This is such an exciting time of change in America. I hope we look back, years from now, in an age of Marriage Equality and feel pride and gratitude for the couples in this book for paving the way in this important civil rights movement. Truly a powerful read--I was moved to tears by almost every story.

I first found these books in the school library in the 1950's & I enjoy them more with each year. They give a true and accurate description of family life in the South through the years. I had thought about them for years and every once in a while would run into a copy at a book sale. A couple of years ago when I was out of work, I used some of my dwindling funds to buy copies of the last 2 books...and I have never regretted it.

I read this book in the 60's, and loved it deeply then. It has held up well. I'd be hard pressed to say whether I like this book or _Dawn's Early Light_ (the first story in the series) best. It is probably best appreciated after reading the first book in the series. They form the bookends of a wonderful series about several intertwined families on both sides of the Atlantic from the American Revolution through World War II. The editions I read as a kid had family trees on the endpapers, and they were a great help.
_Homing_ recounts the story of Mab, a young girl, and her extended family, through the beginning of WW II. Although I am not a historian, I have not ever encountered a historical event in one of Ms. Thane's books that was contradicted by any history I have read. She makes history immediate and real by showing how characters you care about are affected by historical events. The history is background to the story; although it contributes significantly to the plot, I never felt I was being lectured. Characterizations ring true; I came to care deeply about the people in the story. There are ways in which this book, and the whole series, remind me of the books of Rosamunde Pilcher - the are populated by people I'd like to meet, coping with their lives.

This is the last book in a series of books called the Williamsburg novels. I have been reading and re-reading this series of 7 books for over 50 years. They are my all time favorite books. Each book deals with a war or pre-war action (except the war of 1812) in which the US has taken part from the Revolutionary War (Dawn's Early Light) to the Civil War (Yankee Stranger) to the Homing with is the last of the series and the 4th book which deals with WWI and WWII and the years in between. They are a great source of history. Ms Thane (widow of the explorer Dr. William Beebe) has done an excellent job of research for each of the books. I hope others find them as wonderful, and as entertaining as I do. I have read my old copies until they are falling apart. I was very excited to find they had been reprinted and purchased them immediately.

The last of the Williamsburg Series, Homing brings you full circle back to the past. The best way to read this book is after you have read the others, beginning with "Dawn's Early Light". I first read them when I was a teenager and I still read them every couple of years. The characters are like family or maybe the way we would like family to be.

I wish that I'd read this book a year ago when I first bought it. It may have been written over 50 years ago but its contents are probably more useful today then when it was first published, especially with the frantic lifestyles we all lead today.

John Schindler shows us in his book that all of our physical ailments can be attributed to our own mental problems, the way we think etc. This is down to a lack of proper training either from our family or educational system as well as the company we keep. This leads to a mental immaturity & the way we handle our emotions. He helps us cure these by making us aware of what the problems are and how we can go about & easily fix them with a few simple tricks.

I'm not a fast reader, but I was so engrossed in this book that I managed the 210 pages in a single sitting (only one day!!)

This is going to sound like one of the stories in the book, so here goes. Over the last year or more I've had a serious problem with my back; recently I was lucky enough to have an operation to fix it. However, during this time I got so frustrated with my condition, lack of mobility, discomfort and pain that without realising it I got stressed out & developed various conditions such as neck & shoulder ache, headaches & eczema. All of which I managed to cure using Dr Schindler's techniques in a matter of a few days without the need for any medicine.

As ever it's worth its weight in gold if you'll just listen & apply his simple & effective remedies. A great investment if ever there was one.

A guide to richer living.

Dr Schindler claims in this book that most of us are just muddling through life instead of attaining enduring happiness. Because of this muddling through we develop what Dr. Schindler calls "E.I.I" (i.e. emotionally induced illness). Emotion by William James definition is "a state of mind that manifests itself by sensible changes in the body". Because one's has or produces the wrong kind of emotions, sooner or later he will develop physical symptoms. He then goes to his doctor to complain about these symptoms whereas the real cause of his illness is mental - his unhappiness. This book main purpose is to teach people how to change their way of living. The first part of the book is dedicated to describe how one's emotions makes him ill while the second part deals with advices and techniques to cure E.I.I.. In the latter part Dr. Schindler describes, among other things, 12 principles for richer living, and six man's basic needs - six things that deep inside one's must have. The fullillment of those six needs is the program for living that is blue printed for you. An amazing book!, A must read, Highly recommended!

This is a book everyone should have a copy of. Having read the book and attempted to apply what it suggests, I can tell you it is excellent advice. The Publisher's Weekly 'review' above could not be more wrong and only prevents people from benefiting from the timeless advice contained in this book: if anything, it is more relevant today than when it was written. What works works and what is right is right - today, yesterday and tomorrow. In an increasingly stressful and emotionally-disturbed world, that's exactly what the doctor ordered. It's simple: read it and try it and see for yourself. Anyone who does that can only improve their mind, their health and their life.

The other reviewer described the book so I will write about what it did for me. I had sprained a tendon in my leg/hip (how, I have no idea; it just came on) and was in some pain. I didn't know it was a tendon, so I began to worry about it. The pain increased, I began limping, and kept worrying--magnifying it into some sort of dreadful cancer eating away at my bones. (Well, you know, sprains should heal up in a few weeks. I'd had this for a couple months! And I still have it three months later.) Anyway, I read through this book and ended up releasing all the emotional involvement in my leg. The pain was reduced about 80 percent and I no longer limped. Now I just refuse to worry about it and instead bought a bicycle so I can strengthen and provide better stability for my muscular system.

We humans are very capable of endowing our minor injuries (or even major illnesses) with such power that they incapacitate us or, at the very least, demand a lot of attention. This book will help you put such things in perspective. Attitude truly is everything for the body/mind/spirit is a trinity, each component affecting the others. If you can improve your attitude you can improve your health. And the more you concentrate on your injuries or illness, the worse they will become. I highly recommend this book for anyone in pain or anyone with a bad attitude. And I recommend it for everyone who likes to read or who breathes on a regular basis. It's a keeper to which you can refer over and over for encouragement and reminders of the important things in life!

Need to write an employee review? Then this is the book for you! >From the template employee performance reviews to the ready to use phrases for employee performance reviews, this book will show you how to compile a review that is both constructive and likely to fall on receptive ears.

I enjoyed the examples of employee reviews from the chapter "Performance Review Tales of Triumph and Terror." I also enjoyed the "Bonus Superlative Phrases" at the end of each phrase category. These are amusing phrases for the employee whose performance is fabulous.

I recommend the first half of this book for anyone who needs to learn how to give a performance review of an employee (it's full of how-to's) and I recommend the second half of this book for anyone who is looking for sample phrases for performance feedback. And if you're looking for additional inspiration/guidance, the author has a free list of employee review phrases on her website at [...]

Having recently redeveloped and launched our Performance Management Program, the title of this book really caught my interest. It has been my experience that the best designed Perforance Management Program falls short of its intended goal unless it is well communicated to the recipients. Meryl's book offers an extensive selection of phrases and terms for every level of interaction. This book is be a MUST READ for every new supervisor and an excellent CONVERSATION ENHANCER for the seasoned ones. I would highly recommend this be kept in the top drawer of anyone who has the occassion to discuss performance with an employee!

A must for all managers!

This book could not have come at a better time. I was dreading the thought of writing my performance reviews until I read this book. It gave me insight into the importance of the process as well as some key phrases to use to make the writing of the review simple. I could not believe how smooth the review process was this year as a result. I wrote my reviews with confidence and it took me half the time it normally takes! I passed it along to my managers and colleagues I was so impressed. Great job ladies on making a potentially tired subject alive and refreshing again!
