Poststructural and Practical

Greg Ulmer's work is some of the best developed in the world in the whole conversation over media theory, poststructural thinking, and writing/teaching with computers. Written with an easy style that is nonetheless packed with information, Ulmer guides readers through his own homegrown pedagogical process, which combines both the artistic and practical into a single new genre. Rather than sit back and be mystified or stymied by the "age of the spectacle," Ulmer engages affirmatively in it, valuing its positive potential. The goal, he says, is to become not consumers, but practitioners of image-based discourse. HTML and other New Media writing tools give individuals the power; what remains is to craft a set of tactics for helping others realize that power. This is really a great book, sure to become a hallmark in media studies.

This work is sensational, a must read. The author of this is a deadset genius, no question. Even the most cursory interest in Australian Aboriginal languages demands that you aquaint yourself with this book.

Phillip is an All-American boy. Strong, muscular, football quarterback and school star. He has all he wants, even the most beautiful girl, a cheerleader. But what he really wants is the freedom to be gay. In the small town where he lives, it's impossibile for him not to hide; family, friends, all people around him are against who is not like them: strangers, homosexual, who is different is wrong. And so when a strange family move on the old house on the hill, townspeople are ready to judge them as freaks. But Phillip sees different, he sees Julian, the boy who lives there and he is suddenly in love. Julian is a lithe blond guy with wonderful sapphire eyes; he is all the dreams of Phillis come true. But Julian's guardian takes him far from the boy. Fortunately Phillip has the chance to meet Julia, Julian's sister at school, and asks her to be his ambassador with the boy. Julia is an awkard girl, everyone at school treats her bad and only Phillip stands up for her; he even dumps his perfect girlfriend when she deliberately offends Julia.

What Phillip doesn't know is that Julian is not a normal guy, and in this case being not "normal" doesn't mean being gay, as all the homophobic people around him think. Julian is special, and he is a key figure in the world's destiny.

Less than 50 pages, this one is a parody of what means being different and of the power of love. The futuristic element are only a means to underline the apparently difference between Phillip and Julia, a difference you find in an high school, but that it's in greater scale, something you will find also in the real world. And the message is that, with only the power of love, if love is directed to the right person, you can overcome all the odds of life.

This book is the best introduction into the philosophical aspects of science in general and physics in particular that I have read so far. I highly recommend it for everyone interested in innovative views regarding the nature of the reality we consider to "be there". It is not even difficult to read.

Professor Reece brings to philosophy of religion both the critical thinking necessary to deal with the issues facing late modernity, as well as the passion of one upon whom healing hands have been laid. Whether it be his exposure of errors in Rorty's thought, which are perhaps too occupied with the consequences of doubt, or his connecting the dots between Kierkegaard and Wittgenstein, Reece shows how an ironic individual necessarily relies upon idiosyncratic and poetic techniques to construct her autobiography in a world of competing and often incompatible language games. A must read for any serious religious thinker and a recommended read for clergy. Professor Reece is so insightful, he must have very intelligent friends.

"Israel At A Crossroads"

As noted in the forward, "This book is a revised and updated edition, in English, of the original in Hebrew, "Soul-Searching - Towards a Palestinian State."

Written through the prism of a Jewish patriot, it is an historical account of the author's path, from being in hiding from the Nazi occupation in l941-44, through his personal involvement in l944-45 in the punishment of Lithuanian Nazi collaborators; the ordeal of 250,000 Jewish Holocaust survivors, smuggled across Europe after cessation of hostilities in l945; their life in refugee camps in Germany and Austria in l945-48; and strategies used by the "Brichah" (Hebrew for Germany and Austria in l945-48; which facilitated their movement to Eretz Israel, the Land of Israel.

The author was rewarded for his leadership role with the Brichah by the newly formed State of Israel by being invited to enter the Foreign Ministry.

He earned a doctorate in political science, and for 50 years served the State of Israel as a diplomat.

A heavy dose of the politics behind policy decision is given through the lens of Gefen. The book is peppered with his personal view as events unfold from the formation of the Israli government in l948 by the Uniited Nations until the present time.

It is a must read for all jews, and for all who have a commitment to history and peace and justice in the world.

What a charming book. I do recommend this to anyone.

But I have to alert the author, if he reads this, to something i came across about vantage press. copy and paste this:

http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/192/RipOff0192362.htm

Vantage press have been found to be fraudulent publishers! Johnny this is Josh, who you met on the bus and to whom you told a story about McCaullie Culkin (sp?). Please research vantage press, Johnny - I don't know how else to find you but I wanted you to know - I can't stand the idea of you being swindled. And I wouldn't want you paying another dime if that's the case. I'm ordering your book here, because you can't order from vantage press. I searched for the order book option on their web site, but there is none. All the best, Johnny.

It is the 21 Century and mankind has found a way to travel to alterate worlds. This worlds allow mankind to do, frankly, anything it wants. One of this worlds is called Proboscidia where the elephant clan has driven out all the other large or medium sized herbivores. Large, smart and very, very dangerous this creatures also carry something all hunters want - ivory!
Enter Sir Reginald Carter-Smythe one of the top hunters in the field.
The book is set up in a series short-stories, like episodes, where Sir Carter-Smythe plays one of the major characters. For a first book, or any book, Mr. Gregory W. Detwiler has done a great job. Full of action, nothing is ever boring, the characters are complex, the setting and animals very detailed. I wanted more.
The reason the author did such a good job is not just his love for prehistoric animals, alternate evolution or his knowledge of weapons of the past. The reason he did so well is you can FEEL his love for the printed word. The book has been crafted, carefully built, letter by letter, page by page. At only 247 pages I would have to say this is one of the best alternate evolution or alternate history sci-fi books EVER! And he did it without putting the setting in a war too or using a time machine!
I am shocked that nobody else has reviewed his book and am wondering why he hasn't made more!
