Emma Sleeth's book has dozens of practical ideas that I want to implement right away. I've already turned my refrigerator and freezer temperatures up, unplugged all unnecessary appliances, and started washing my clothes in cold water instead of warm or hot. Every little bit helps. Thanks, Emma, for sharing your wisdom!

This thoroughly delightful book for young people will encourage anyone who reads it to take steps in the direction of caring for the environment.

Each chapter discusses a different subject of conservation and there are lots of decorated "boxes" giving hints along the way.

A helpful, engaging read for anyone!

Just the thing to give an up and coming youngster, especially if you know they wish to be useful in this world. Emma Sleeth writes in a conversational style that is a 'fun read', but this book should make me and you do something to help this world. Too many of us ( I am a grandma!) have used and used and not thought of the ramifications of our willynilly expenditures (especially of non-renewable resources). Emma Sleeth gives great ideas for all of us, to rectify that situation. I will hang clothes on the line. Yes, I will! I will. I promise.

I couldn't set this down until I finished it! (Then I immediately passed it along to more readers!) I am, however, looking forward to going back and reading it again and applying all the great practical tips to my life. It's Easy Being Green is thoughtful, practical, amusing, heartwarming, and sure to make a real difference in each reader's life! My advice: order this, read this, start quoting this! Join the Ms. Sleeth and her father and keep serving God and saving the planet!

Green things are not only growing outside, they are appearing on store shelves and in advertisements across America. In my search to find a meaning behind all this mania, I have read several books and learned a lot about caring for creation. What's great about this student's guide to serving God and saving the planet is that it is more than a mere handbook. I have found both Ms. Sleeth's personal story and her helpful tips to be an aid to my understanding of both "going green" and the role of my faith in this process.

I first got turned on to Ed Renehan when I saw him on C-SPAN discussing the book he wrote about the family of Theodore Roosevelt, entitled THE LION'S PRIDE. After enjoying LION'S PRIDE, I purchased and learned a lot from Renehan's beautifully written account of John Brown and the Harpers Ferry raid, entitled THE SECRET SIX. Then, although I'd never heard of John Burroughs, I moved onto this excellent biography of a fascinating but neglected figure of American history, and am glad I did. Now I will turn to some of Burroughs's own writings, if I can find them!

Great recommends for food I am a shopper.. Absolutely great & unusual shops ..None of the bad tourist gear only the styling gear.. .I am familiar w/ New York but I still use this guide. This is the one I get around with...I do not go anywhere without this guide if there is one available for the destination Im will be traveling to....

This is the most ergonomically designed useful city guide I've seen.
100 percent portable, no batteries, internet connection and user friendly.

I have bought several editions of this handy little guide over the years and am now giving one to all the guests at my daughter's New York wedding. It is very easy to use and has great suggestions for dining, sight-seeing etc. with very simple sections for each area of the city. I call it my New York bible.

I went to New York for the first time for two weeks. This map is great. It's small, easy to carry, and easy to read. You won't feel so obvious if you have to pull it out on the street corner or on the subway. It was so much better than the full size map that I got from the hotel. Beware, it only covers Manhattan. So if you have to travel to the outer boroughs (Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island, Queens) you'll need a different map. However, since all the siteseeing, shopping, and eating I wanted to do was located in Manhattan, it was the only map I needed.

The first time I went to New York, my mom bought this for our trip. It's been a life saver since. The maps are very detailed but small enough to carry with you without looking obnoxious. The subway map is detailed as well and when you use them with your sectioned maps, it completes the whole picture. This is a must have especially for first time visitors as the maps are very easy to read. I'm going on my third trip in two months and had to pick up another copy of this, as I can't seem to find my older one. I couldn't imagine a trip to NYC without it!

Good translation and the subject material in this book creates a deep emotional connection to parashah commentary. Highly recommended. Also the introduction to the book is well written and presents an interesting introduction to the Sfat Emet.

Arthur Green has done the Torah- learning public in English a great service with this translation and commentary. He elucidates the work of an important Jewish Hasidic thinker, one whose Torah is very much a teaching of the love of Torah. For the Sefat Emet the Torah is the unlimited wisdom of G-d that we can only imperfectly grasp. We human beings are half of our real selves, and the other half which is with G-d comes down to us on Shabbos, but also comes to make us whole whenever we learn Torah.
I hope this Shavuot to look into this particular Sefer more. It was also a favorite of my own Rebbe, the ' Holy Teacher' David Hertzberg who often taught it along with other favorites like the Kedushat Levi, the Moharran, the Degel Ephraim, Ishbitz, and others.

Sfat Emet is an incredibly succinct and somewhat enigmatic work. There are portions that are so cryptic that one must read them several times in order to absorb their full meaning. Accordingly, Prof. Green's elucidation can be quite helpful. Furthermore, while Prof. Green taps into the universalism inherent in Sfat Emet, he is generally moderate in his interpretation of the Rebbe's work. As a result, he very rarely offends the sensibilities of the more traditional reader (i.e., one that might refer to "the Sfas Emes"). Finally, the historical information is good reading.

First published at the end of the 19th century, this is a work of startlingly radical theology. Green summarizes one short comment:

"There is an openness in this teaching to an authentic universalism that is rare in Jewish sources. All the tongues of humanity praise G*d, each in their own distinctive way but as part of the universal chorus. The Moses who "created openings, gates of Torah" in all the places and tongues of the world is not like the religiously imperialistic missionary who translates his own Bible into all the languages and thus rejoices at the spread of G*d's word. Here the "openings" have to come from within those languages and the cultures that are an inseparable part of them. If we understand that there is really but one G*d and listen to the prophet who says: "Everywhere incense and sacrifice are offered to My name" (Mal. 1:11), we will begin to understand our task as participants in and listeners to the truly universal human chorus."

The Gerer rebbe points out the real Torah was the innermost utterance of Hashem which created the universe. Everything in the universe is manifestation of Hashem. Even the Hebrew Torah itself is a "clothing" on top of the original Torah - a kind of translation, if you will.

One can only marvel at the succinct style and unique vision of this great spiritual master. While studying the Sefat Emet, I am struck by the spiritual poverty of this generations Torah leaders.

A riveting tale that looks at the impact and influential nature of two people, at opposite ends of the societal ladder. Almost by accident, two close friends, using their instincts to gain power, taste success so often, that the reader becomes a silent cheerleader for them. There seems to be no end to the hurdles (& the patience to overcome them) that the two main characters encounter.

At times the author attempts to make sense where things are best left unsaid or provide background to help the reader understand why the characters act as they do but these are nit-picks and relate to my personal reading preferences.

It is unmistakable that I found it hard to put the book down once the adrenaline began to flow. The author pulls you in and refuses to let go. There are lessons to be learned in this tale... some are 'hard,' others more subtle... but no one will leave empty handed.

I really liked this book. The characters were interesting and the ending caught me completely off guard.

The perfect blend of fantasy and reality, this novel keeps you interested throughout. The characters are well developed and vividly described. Anyone who has Irish in their blood can learn a great deal from Dave Daly.

The Legend of Killer Noon is a riveting novel that hurtles you into the minds of 1500-year old characters trying to assimilate into modern-day NYC. The protaganists in the novel draw the reader into their lives with relevant story lines and a plot that keeps the reader engrossed.

The main characters find themselves questioning their beliefs as soon as they find themselves in this new world. A gripping spiritual, ethical, and personal struggle forces the readers to examine their own belief systems.

David J. Daly is a truly gifted author whose contributions to the literary world are fresh and exciting. If you're looking for formula writing, don't look here. The unique plot line will fascinate you and the ending will shock you.

It was interesting from the start. Enjoyed the irish/celtic information very much. Lots of surprises in this book too. I've passed it on to a number of friends already.

Though I've always been a bit skeptical about self-help books, I am supremely impressed by "Lesbian Couples." So much so that I have also, like another reviewer, recommended it to my straight friends. Never have I seen such a comprehensive, thoughtful, thought-provoking, and helpful book. Although I did recommend it to my straight friends, I highly appreciated having a book written by and for women loving women. I particularly appreciated the chapters relationship phases, maintaining separate identities, and negotiating conflict.

My partner and I communicate well and have built a strong relationship, but I can already see how little things I picked up on in the book have reshaped our relationship for the better.

I hardly think of books I read as worthy of 5 stars, but for it's comprehensiveness and quality insight into relationships, I can say nothing bad about it.

This book helps seperate the similiarities and differences between lesbian and straight couples. It helps dispel some of the myths and assumptions and helps you look at your own relationship with a new understanding. Fabulous!

This book's advice has been so wonderful and has definitely helped enrich mine and my partner's relationship. I have even suggested this to some of my strait friends and they have benefitted from it's advice as well. The only advice I disagree on is the whole non-monogamy thing that they offer in part of the book as an option, but that's a personal preferance of mine and I am sure to those who prefer open/multi relationships will find it helpful.

This is a definite MUST READ!

And that's really what this book is--a necessary part of any healthy lesbian relationship. Get it, read it with your partner, try to incorporate its tips into your life, and you will see the difference in your relationship. It covers every aspect of the lesbian relationship from both a personal and a theraputic aspect.

The little Green Handbook is packed full of data covering our environment. From facts on environmental degradation, population data, energy use plus more. Each topic is thoroughly covered with a multitude of up to date facts and figures. These facts and figures are easily understood and well explained by the author. This book has been written so that the average person can easily read and understand the subject. It is not a book by a scientist for scientists. The only thing overwhelming about this book is the state our life giving planet finds itself in.

In this book the author also tackles the issue of over population that few environmentalists dare to discuss. The chapter about population succinctly explains the relation ship between the global population and the state of our planet and how this is the core problem to it's ills. An example from the book; the author predicts that the population level in 15 years from now will be 7.6 billion people and in 25 years it will be 8.4 billion from our current levels of 6.2 billion and that's his medium growth forecast

This book is a wake up call. Ron Nielson says it is not too late yet but time is short to reverse of perhaps ameliorate the problems about to occur. I believe this book is a must read for anyone concerned for the fate of the planet. It brings to a startling reality the facts of what is happening and what is predicted to happen to our precious home, Earth

If you want to provide the best possible future for your children then you should read this book. Why?

In eight chapters, the book describes the state of the world, carefully summarising a massive amount of factual research on environment, population, land, water, atmosphere, energy, society and conflict. It is easy to read and quite complex issues are described simply and clearly.

There is a vast collection of very interesting facts in the text and more in many easily understood tables. For example, did you know that

-- oxidation of sulphides in wastes from most mining operations produces land, water and air pollution for several generations?

-- more than four babies are added to global population each second?

-- in Australia, over 4.7 million hectares of agricultural land have been degraded by dryland salinity?

-- underground water reserves are defined as non-renewable as they take about 1400 years to recharge?

-- average temperatures in some regions of Australia increased by 2ºC over the last century?

-- worldwide, around 14% of natural gas is lost in transmission?

-- there are around one billion obese people in the world, 300 million critically obese and 170 million underweight children?

-- the assets of the world's 200 richest people grew by $2 million per person per day from 1994 to 1998?

-- the US spends about 50% of its discretionary budget on military activities?

Chapter 9 provides a summary of the previous eight chapters, and in Chapter 10 - Landmarks of Progress - the author extracts answers to some critical questions, based on the information provided in the earlier chapters. Most provocative are his projections, based on careful - and very conservative - trend analyses based on published facts.

Take just one example: oil. Around 95% of global transport depends on oil. Many other industries depend on oil, too. We have used up about half of the known reserves. The demand will very soon exceed supply and that gap will widen very rapidly. In our market-based economy, this will lead to very significant price increases (already oil has tripled in price from $US25 to $US75 per barrel in the last five years). What will we do when we cannot afford to fill up the tank? What will be the consequences for food distribution?

Besides these 10 chapters, there are nearly 100 pages of appendices, notes, references and two indexes (one by subject and the other by country and region).

The author, a nuclear physicist, is very careful to refrain from 'doom and gloom', focusing most on facts and a little on probabilities for the future. And he asks a lot of hard questions.

If we needed a wake-up call, this book is it -- and a deafeningly loud one at that. I read a lot of books and this one is, in my view, the most important book published in Australia in more than 10 years. It ranks with Rachel Carson's 'Silent Spring'. In the Australian publisher's opinion, it is the most important book they have ever published, in 15 years.

If the trends described in The Little Green Handbook are even close to being accurate, then the lives of our children will be very, very, very different from ours, unless we change our behaviour very quickly, across almost all areas of our lives.

Read this book--for the sake of your children.

What riveted me to my chair whilst reading Ron Nielson's book, was no so much the shear volume of facts that he has assembled, but the compassion of the man for this planet. What else could drive him to assemble the massive compendium of frightening facts about our impact on it. Ron lives the credo espoused by Einstein and even though I have not yet met the man, I admire him for it. Ron has helped me understand who I am and why I struggle so hard to change the way we impact on earth.

The Little Green Handbook puts into print the evidence about global trends we all fear are true but avoid as they spell the end of our dominance of the planet. As Ron states in his Epilogue on page 263, "We have entered a unique century, in which questions about our survival will be answered and our future decided. This century will mark the conclusion of the first ever population explosion, with all its damaging and ominous consequences. For the first time in human history, we are approaching and crossing the ecological limits of our planet. Never before has the survival of the human race been so threatened. Never before has there been a convergence of so many critical global trends"

This is a must read

The Little Green Handbook is must know information for us all. Dr Nielsen cuts through the hype and misinformation and delivers the facts on the state of our planet. This stunning book is superbly written delivering its impeccably researched material in a cleverly structured format. The layered format of the book allows the reader to choose the level of detail they want. If you want a comprehensive overview of a given topic it's provided. If you want very detailed information in support of that overview it's also provided. To say the book is comprehensive is an understatement.

With the release of the Little Green Handbook we can no longer claim ignorance as an excuse for not taking action to address the environmental devastation we are inflicting upon our planet. The Little Green Handbook should be compulsory reading for every politician on the planet. It should also be studied in schools across the globe because our children have a right to know about the environmental legacies we are leaving them.

The Little Green Handbook gives a broad outline of the worldwide trends that have impacted on the global environment and will continue to do so. They are presented under the chapter headings of population explosion; diminishing land resources and water resources; the destruction of the atmosphere; the approaching energy crisis; social decline and conflicts and increasing killing power.
As someone who earns a living from words, it was with trepidation I approached a book filled with figures. But within hours of starting the book I realised the enormous power and impact of seeing this data laid out in tables. The figures really do speak for themselves, with some help from Dr Nielsen. Under each table he gives an example of what the data is telling the reader and allows you to confirm that you are reading the information correctly.
Dr Nielsen's message is not only that humans are reaching the ecological limits in many of these areas but that in some we may have already surpassed them.
For example, the concept of the ecological footprint has gained widespread uses as an indicator of how much land it takes to produce the resources to maintain a person's basic needs and lifestyle choices. Dr Nielsen says the current global footprint is 2.3ha per person, but global capacity is 1.8ha per person - that means the world's current consumption is at rates 28 per cent higher than global ecological capacity.
The handbook is full of facts and figures that are presented in a way that is never cumbersome or less than an absorbing read.
It is a great reference for anyone with an interest in the environment.

This is a book most especially for those who want an alternative to western medicine and an approach that will be truly holistic, addressing emotional and social issues surrounding HSV 1 & 2, as well as medical ones. It is warm and caring and full of wisdom. I'm grateful to Christopher Scipio for helping me understand this virus and learning how to deal with it without shame and as part of being a human being despite misplaced social stigma.

Not having read another book on herpes, I cannot compare this book to any other book. However, I can compare my health before and after reading "Making Peace With Herpes" and working with Christopher, and I will never need drug therapy, and I have not had any more outbreaks.

Everything I do now is for the better of my health, herpes, body, and soul, because I am living and eating and loving consciously. Christopher advocates through his book, and through his life, living and treating herpes holistically. You will learn how to accept that you have herpes (cold sores are herpes too) and change your life to make the virus inactive.

Christopher inspires by relating personal stories and writings such as "Nine Years in The Wilderness", "Nine Stages of Dealing With a Herpes Diagnosis" (EXCELLENT), "He or She Just Ain't That Into You" (a personal favorite, you will see why).

Christopher further educates by including his herpes diet (it works and also made my winter allergies much less severe), recommended supplements, lifestyle and state of consciousness tips, a guided daily visualization for herpes, how to handle an outbreak, and much information on his natural remedies and how and why he makes them.

I recommend this book if you are ready to live the life you envision!

Christopher's book was a life saver. It is informative, it responded to my doubts and fears, it answered my questions. It showed me a way to live with herpes holistically. It taught me to think positively about something that was making me very negative.

I have given the book to several family members and friends who have herpes and they have loved it too. I highly recommend this book.

I bought this book because I was looking for other answers than those provided by medical sites. It definitely provides information on statistics and forms of transmission as well as ways of protecting others. But more importantly it offers a spiritual/emotional approach to dealing with the often devastating news as well as the lifetime "companion". The author's personal experience is something we can all relate to and it is comforting to know that one is not alone. Actually knowing that we are a majority is in a way empowering.
There are no quick fixes for this and our emotional and psychological health is extremely important when dealing with this virus. Christopher Scipio makes a good point to touch on this throughout the book.
I am one of those people who does not buy into the big drug companies and quick fixes, so am drawn to holistic medicine.

The adventures of Chico and his friends keeps this story moving fast and teaches children about another culture. You can't put this book down. The guide in the back has great discussion questions. This is a must for all Christian Schools!

A great story, told thru the eyes of a child. It draws you in and warms your heart.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It surprised me I didn't want to put it down. This would be a great book to read to your children at night. It gives a new perspective on missions. It is very enjoyable to see how missions affect the lives of others from their point of view.
I highly recommend this book. Buy it for your self and as a unique and insightful gift for a friend

This book captivates the audience from the very first paragraph. The story of this young boy lets you see what life is like in his part of the world and how he comes to know Christ through the actions of the man in the green jeep. The study guides are very helpful when reading this book to children. One can't wait to hear more from this new author, and perhaps learn more about the life of people who are so much less fortunate than we are here in the U.S.

I enjoyed this book and I don't even have kids. It wonderfully describes a young boy's day-to-day life in Honduras. And makes you understand how much children need love and support no matter where they live.

This is such a great song to sing and the book is a fun accompaniment, as well as the CD.
These types of books are great to bring in the car for some family fun time!

This is such a great book. I've used it with many many preschoolers and children, and the remark I always get is "again, again"...

I bought this book for my nephew and the entire family has enjoyed his singing the pages, he had it memorized in no time and he is only 2 years old!!! I would recommend this book to anyone with young children, not just for their enjoyment but for the entire family.

The younger loves the beautiful pictures and singing along. The older loves looking for all the little details in the pictures. They both love substituting the names of the characters for their own friends' names! Both learned their colors through this book without realizing what they were actually doing. This is one book I don't mind reading over and over.

I remember reading this book back in kindergarten and the first grade. It was the first book I ever learned to read. I loved this book so much that I read it until I had it memorized. It's too bad the original cover is not printed in this edition. I'm going to pass this one down to my cousin, Adam, whose only 4. Hopefully, we can continue the tradition so this will be his first book he ever learns to read.
