As a nanny in the Cleveland area, I'm always looking for new activities to do with my charges. This book not only lets you know great places to visit, but rates what age ranges would best like a certain activity. Great book to get if you are looking for things to fill a slow week.

A great, straight-forward fishing book

As a basic fisher.......person? (What's PC these days, anyway?) Anyhoo - as a beginning angler, I found this book to be great - it really describes most of northern Ohio, and will keep me busy for some time. Barbo tells you where the fish are and how to get there - with enough information to keep you from getting lost if you've never been there before. Barbo also has a enjoyable writing style - easy to read, and humorous, and he sounds like a great person to go fishing with (So - John, if you read this - drop me an e-mail, and maybe we can hook up together....sorry - no pun intended :)

If you fish in the Cleveland area, buy this book!

A book that will capture your little one's attention

"Cluck O'Clock" is the current favorite of my 3-year old, who loves the rhythm of the story and the detailed pictures. This is one of the very few books I can read forty times over without wishing I could hide it. The pictures are adorable and clever, the story will amuse you both, and there's even a bit of suspense that my toddler finds fun - especially since all ends well when the "villain", a fox called Olga, is turned away from the henhouse by a brave rooster. An all-around fun book for when your little one is ready to move beyond the simplicity and short length of board books.
I also highly recommend the author's other book, "Our Twitchy".

The complete story of one Confederate's service.
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.

If you've ever wondered what it was like to be a soldier in the Civil War, get this book. I recommend it whether your sympathies are Union or Confederate, whether you are new to studying the War or a lifelong buff. Sam Watkins tells the reader of all the excitement, tedium, bravery, fear, humor, and horror of a soldier's life in wartime. He is an excellent storyteller, with a style on a par with Mark Twain. I only regret that he wrote 20 years after the War, and his memory was better in recalling some events than others. But he recalls more than enough to give a complete picture. He was, of course, a staunch Confederate, but does not dwell much on politics. He judges senior officers on their individual merits as he saw them, and his opinions of them run the gamut from near worship of his regimental commander to contempt for Braxton Bragg. The book is a valuable soldier's-eye history of the Army of Tennessee, and portions of it are the only surviving first-hand accounts of the events recounted. The details of daily Army life will be of particular interest to re-enactors.

Special significance to current events

We purchased this book after a trip to Mesa Verde National Park and it finally succeeded in turning my 5-year-old son's attention away from Star Wars and Bionicles! Instead of light-sabers and blaster guns, he wants to build a kiva, climb on ladders and make pottery. Yeah, he wants to make a bow and arrow, too, but at least those have historical significance and require real skill. Hobbs does a great job of intertwining descriptions of Puebloan skills and customs with a compelling story about how a boy from Mesa Verde befriends a boy from a feared nomadic tribe. As the visiting boy returns to his tribe, respectful of this different culture, the story leaves a hopeful message of friendship that has special significance for our country now. First published in 1987, this book entered its third printing in 2000. I hope it makes it to a fourth printing. My only criticism is the description of the people as "brown-skinned." I don't think the Puebloans would have considered themselves "brown-skinned," but rather, "flesh-tone." Caucasian immigration wouldn't start for hundreds of years. But this is a minor point. Ms. Hobbs, please write more stories of ancestral Puebloans!

It's amazing to me that a book like this takes so long to be discovered. The thoughts of the author are provocative, inspiring, and very helpful for people trying to come to grips with religaious views concerning animals. A good read. You'll get a lot of answers, but you may also develop a long list of new questions.

This text is fabulouis for those with extended college education (i.e. grad school or above). Although the read was easy, a framework for understanding is critical. That is all...enjoy
