No matter what you think about differential equations, you just got to have that book. The software that comes with it, is
dynamite, and fully adds to Mathematica's Dsolve. Fact is, after you read the book you may understand what Ordinary Differential
Equations are all about. "By the way there is nothing ordinary about Differential equations". These guys really know their
stuff. Even better they can really explain it well. The book reads like someone is constantly talking to you or guiding you.
The presentation is great. My only problem is that I finally understood the stuff. [ A pleasant one at that] The other fascinating
thing about the book is the historical backgound of the mathematicians who contibuted to the discovery of DEs. This makes
the book so enjoyable. Read this book and your girlfriend/boygriend will think you are a true inspired genius. However make
it fast. They are bound to find out for themselves. This book will be true classic. BTW, you c! ould also look up another
great book on DE. Authors are Blanchard, Devaney and Hall. Published by Brooks/Cole. These two books are all you should ever
need.

Really good, if not best. It is the resource text as an example for textbooks for the years to come. You learn to work out
analytically first and then computing and numerically. The Mathematica notebook format of the acompaning CD-Rom is not only
containing all the 900 pages of the book and it's graphycs but also animations and the solutions to exercises and Mathematica
exercises. I would have liked that my first ODE textbook would have been like that one. Fantastic!

This book came out in the mid 1990s right when the biggest debates were dealing with cultural diversity and affirmative action.
No book not even this one can capture the essence and writings of Berlin's writing that expanded nearly six decades yet it
provides a fresh analysis of his ideas to those who aren't familiar with the 'history of ideas' and unleashed in the public
debate about what to do about the remnants of liberalism and multiculturalism in this day and age. I recommend buying this
highly.

For some reason, the other reviews, with one exception, are not reviews of John Gray's, "Isaiah Berlin;" they are instead
reviews of a compilation of Berlin's writing, "Four Essays on Liberty." I don't know how this happened, but I will review
Gray's book, ISBN 0691026351.
Gray presents a compact (168 pages) intellectual biography of Berlin, an affectionate, fair, yet critical survey of his thought and works. It is an excellent resource, and it provides the reader with the background and context necessary for understanding Berlin's rather voluminous and disparate writings. This is especially valuable, as Berlin was a loquacious and sometimes untidy writer, circling around, over, and back through his ideas in way that some may find confusing more than clarifying. In fact, his key ideas were not that many, and not that difficult to grasp, when set out as carefully as Gray sets them out.
If you want more narrative of Berlin's very interesting life, you should consider Michael Ignatieff's, "Isaiah Berlin: A Life," which is also superbly done. Gray concentrates on Berlin's ideas, summarizing the whole of his life in one paragraph in the Introduction.

I have read and "studied" several of Mr.Kunstler's books and enjoyed them all.I particularly enjoy the artists comments as
to why he does some of the things the way he does. This book is different in that his art is not accompanied by his explanations
but by another writer's text. This text is very good and really brings out the personalities of these great characters. As one
who believes that it is important to understand the personalities of the people involved if one is to understand why things
happened the way they did;this is very well done.
As to the title of my review;I find eyes fascinating. The first thing I look at in Mr.Kunstler's paintings is the eyes.Let me point out Confederate Sunset on pg.56 both Lee's and Jackson's eyes are very beady and staring resulting in them looking like figures in a wax museum;giving the painting a posed and unnatural feeling.Other examples are of Jackson on pages 38and 40.Note the difference in Jackson's eyes on page44.Another thing I like to study is how some paintings look very stiff, posed almost like a diorama in a museum,eg.The Return of Stuart on pg.126.Compare this to The Last Council on pg.102 which is so realistic. Am I alone in seeing this aspect of Mr.Kunstler's work?

I have found this book most helpful. The articles written by the various contributors is worth the price alone. The illustrations
are satisfactory as most of these works are about texture. This book will be a friend for a long time.

I hesitated before ordering this book. I already own 5 books about Jasper Johns and was thinking to myself that owning one
more would not add much to my appreciation of this great artist. I was wrong. This book, the catalogue for an exhibition held
at the Chicago Art Institute in 2007, is full of marvelous illustrations (of some recent works like the Catenary series)
and brilliant essays on the importance of this most difficult of colors, gray, in the work of Johns. The quality of the illustrations
is such that they enable the reader to see all the nuances of the artist's palette as if we were standing in front of the
paintings (or drawings, or prints, as a matter of fact). In this respect, all the photographs were taken by the same photographer
using one type of material only so as to show the works in the same light and shade. Johns's gray is like Hals's black: he
has hundreds of different grays and the book reveals this perfectly.
Highly recommended.

This is a warm and satisfying book about discovering a higher level of communication with your pet. It should become a standard
in animal communication. Although I could never achieve the degree of communication with my beloved pet that Jan has achieved
with hers, my real life experience with my pet has been wonderfully enhanced by reading this book. I now see my dog as my
really good friend and not just as my pet that I love.

For a long time I have been able to communicate mentally with my friend, companion and helper. He is my seeing eye dog, and
is with me constantly. Over the years we have developed the ability to talk together in a way I just can't explain. It is
as if some profound and complex electronic device is connecting our thought processes. I never had the courage to discuss
this with anyone because in addition to my obvious handicap, I didn't want people to think I was mentally unbalanced as well.
But when a friend read Janice Kolb's book to me, I got the courage to tell people what I am experiencing. I can't do the journaling
technique she recommends, but I'm sure this would enhance my experience. As it did for me, this book can open new worlds for
those who truly love their pets.

Beautifully designed "A Keepsake Christmas" is the perfect choice to take as a hospitality gift, give to a favorite teacher,
tuck inside a friend's purse or buy for your own coffee table.
The preface begins with these words, "Twinkling lights drape across the mantel, a cozy fire crackles on the hearth, we turn a page on the calendar--and Christmas is here once more. This is the wondrous season when ordinary moments become extraordinary and when greetings of 'welcome home' moisten our cheeks with joyful tears."
Bursting from every page are wonderful new ideas, easy decorating tips, suggestions for stress-free entertaining, delicious recipes, tender ways to connect with others during the holiday season, and heart-touching true stories. Best of all, there is a golden thread lacing through all the pages that reminds us of the timeless message that Christmas was a birthday before it was a holiday.
Here's just a tiny sampling of the delightful treasures you'll find inside "A Keepsake Christmas": Different Ways to Count the Days, Candle of Hope, Family Advent Celebration, A Christmas Tea, Progressive Mug Party, Eggnog French Toast, Cherished Traditions, Follow the Star, Everyday Gifts of the Heart, Fireside Cappuccino, Simple and Sensational Centerpieces, A Light in the Window, Mini Gingerbread House, Create a Critter Tree, Twenty-five Ways to Simplify, Is There Room in My Heart?
This book was written especially for every woman who longs to create a meaningful and memorable Christmas.

I don't have this book but we used to jam with Kenny back in the early 70's and did a workshop with him at Sweet's Mill.
Kenny is the most amazing mandolin/fiddle player I have ever heard. I have his original record and some recent CD releases
of him with the Sweet's Mill String Band and some with him on it. Someone needs to reprint this book. I want to buy it!

For some reason, this book is still the only one of its kind, delving into the performance art philosophies of Meredith Monk,
Barbara Dilley, Ping Chong, and Spalding Gray, just to name a few. Beautifully illustrated, this book explores dance and
performance art from a kind of Jungian/shamanist/Buddhist perspective. You can learn from this book just what it means to
be an artist--or just what it means to be alive

Steinman's book really stands alone among performance art books. While there are many that document what particular artists
are doing, this one offers a way in for a person who wants to perform (or know more about how performance artists work).
The book is difficult to characterize: while not exactly a "how-to" manual, it inspired me to create new art and to think
about how we tell stories with our bodies, with images, in front of an audience. Must reading for anyone interested in performance
art, it will also be fascinating to those in theatre, playwriting, visual arts and performance of any sort. I lend mine out
all the time (but it's one of a few among my many books that I make sure I always get back!)

This was an incredible book. I was so into it I read it straight through, in the end I was in tears. It is unbelievable what
we are capable of doing to nature. I knew about the Wolves before reading this book but this completed my knowledge. I was
so impressed with all the hard work the researchers put into learning about the wolves with out invading their space. I am
not against the use of technology to research but sometimes I believe we go to far and harm more than our later protection
can help. I for one send my thanks and support to this team. My heart goes out to the pain they must have felt in seeing
the aftermath.
