This work, the English translation of Dag Norberg's classic yet never reprinted Introduction à l'étude de la versification latine médiévale of 1958, is the essential guide to the bewildering variety of verse-forms in which Latin poetry was written between Antiquity and the Renaissance, from quantitative metre (not always classically handled) to syllabic measures with or without attention to stress, not to mention word-counting systems and downright free verse. We also learn about rhyme and rhyme-schemes, nor is the relation of text and music neglected. Norberg's references have been updated by the translators; Jan Ziolkowski's expert introduction surveys more recent work that has supplemented but not supplanted the original study, which remains essential for all students and readers of medieval Latin poetry.

Very useful tool. well compiled with range and section locations when available. Map book also, marginally useful, generally locates in area where site is located.
Documents all known minerals gathering sites including some that are simply reported but not being mined. All info 45+ years out of date so sites may or may not still be in operation or easily findable.
Hard to find collectable for rockhounds.

Like many others, I assumed that building nonprofit capacity was a wise investment. Blumenthal describes how easily capacity building efforts can go awry, using both research and examples from real programs. She goes on to describe a number of interesting capacity building programs that avoid some of the pitfalls. While the problems described are very common, this is the first analysis I have found that offers alternatives.
This book offers important insights for foundations interested in funding capacity building work, consultants who work with nonprofits and nonprofit executive directors and trustees.

The Grant, Baird, and Pringle volume is still the go to work when starting out on any attempt to understand and appreciate the rock drawings of the Coso Range. This is an outstanding study with a great breath and depth with much to consider and reflect over. Some of the material is dated but much of their discussions still apply and many continuing debates turn on the key points introduced into the study. The topics of research that they cover and are still topics discussed and debated in archaeological circles include: Who made the glyphs (ethnic identities of the Coso artisans)? When were they made (revised estimates seem to suggest from ca. 8000 BC or even earlier to ca. AD 1300)? Why were they made (hunting magic, shamanism, other)? Why did they quit (overkill of bighorn, drought, other)?

The book is an inexpensive treat for the mind and they eye. I have read and re-read this work perhaps 20 times or more and I still find kernels of knowledge that can be gleaned out of the authors original insights into the mysteries of the Coso Range Rock Art.

Highly recommended!

If your organization does not yet have a successful grant program, this is a must read book for directors and trustees. It illuminates why foundations give, what they expect from their investment in non-profit organizations, and how they build relationships with institutions. Brophy clearly articulates the steps it takes to get to the point where you can write a successful grant application and backs up her findings with specific case studies from museums across the United States and abroad. I recommend this book not only to museums but to any non-profit (cultural, educational, or social service) that needs to grow to the next level of professionalism in program design and grant writing.

The definitive source for open channel flow measurement from the industry leader in environmental sampling and flow metering. The book contains a fundamental description of open channel flow, a discussion of the principal types of flumes and weirs, a primary device selection guide, a discussion of the Manning equation and it's limitations, and (most importantly) discharge tables for almost all types and sizes of primary devices that one might find in the field. Everyone in the water or wastewater industry should have copy for general reference.

The whole Ivan series is a must read - especially for boys. This is a tale of courage and adventure in the face of persecution in communist Russia. My son devoured the whole series.

My son loved the whole series! He is a picky reader. He does not like fantasy and that is mostly what is written for boys these days. The Ivan books are historical fiction at its best. He really got a feel for what it was like to live under communism for the non-conformist.

My son read the whole Ivan series and loved it! These are stories of real courage in the face of danger and persecution in the Soviet Union. A must read for boys 11 - 18.
