Emerald Decision was the second and last novel written by Craig Thomas under the pseudonym of David Grant. Unlike the first and forgotten David Grant book, poor Moscow 5000, Emerald Decision would later be re-issued under the rightful name of Craig Thomas.

Craig pulled a Godfather Part II, and set the novel in two different times, alternating between a father and son. In 1940's Europe, we follow Anglo-Irish spy Michael McBride who uncovers a plot involving German U-Boats in the South of Ireland. Much later during the 1980's, McBride's son, Thomas McBride, who's mother moved to America before he was born but after his father died during the war, is a popular historian who comes across stunning information involving his father's discoveries of a Nazi invasion of Ireland which could lead to him making another bestselling history book. Though the powers at be would prefer the secrets to remain as such. Both Michael and Thomas McBride must fight for their lives to uncover the truth.

A great book from Craig Thomas. After thinking of why he chose to publish this and Moscow 5000 under a pseudonym, I've figured that with all the books that he wrote in the late '70's/early '80's, which was quite a few, he thought he shouldn't flood the world of literature with so many novels in so short of time. But they're both great books that any Craig fan would enjoy.

This collection gives the reader a real taste of Ireland, from authentic folklore to tales of the contemporary Irish. I especially enjoyed the stories by Loree Lough, Mike Sackett, Lisa Kamps and Shannon Katona. The paintings in this book make fantasy look like reality, they look like photographs and the images seem so real. The earth and the trees generate energy and light. The atmospheric, surreal night-time landscapes and mythical creatures in this book will lead you to believe that they truly exist. I also loved that there were detailed explanations from the artist of what she was trying to achieve, as well as pictures of the works-in-progress! I highly recommend it.

A Masterpiece !

Don't be fooled by the slimness of this volume. Within the space of less than a hundred pages, Grant dissected the Anglo-Saxon strain of "justice," which is based on liberalism.

In this book, Grant begins by examining the intellectual roots of English-speaking justice, by looking at the ideas of Locke and Kant. After which, he looks into a contemporary version of it, by examining the works of Rawl's magnum opus (A Theory of Justice).

After this brief but lucid discussion of the works above, Grant then show how the liberal conception of justice has fail in delivering its promises of a just society. The reason being technology. Grant, argues that technology has brought about a cybernetic society, i.e., a society which is guided by the calculation of means and ends which can erode the basic premise of liberalism, i.e., liberty of the individual. Thus, Grant argues that liberalism and technology makes strange bedfellows in modern society. On the one hand, we cherish the idea of the autonomy of the individual but on the other we want to reap the fruits of technology which is incompatible with freedom. Thus, we are locked in the horns of delimma between technology and liberty. Which would we choose?

In conclusion, one cannot help but admire the penetrating analysis of Grant's essay on modern society and its discontents. But, at the same time, I wish he would give us an alternative to that of liberalism.

This text is extremely useful for all finance students interested in portfolio management and stock analysis. As a senior finance student, I thought it was a very important book to study from - you will see real snapshots of bloomberg and valueline analysis, which I thought was incredibly insightful. As it is with Professor Grant's other works, this text was reader-friendly.

Wonderfully representative of Pompeii

When one visits Pompeii one of the first things that becomes evident is the erotic nature of the art. Even many of the souvenirs are erotic in nature. So, this book seems particularly appropriate. While eros becomes a theme uniting the book, it discusses the history and daily life in Pompeii as well as giving information of the excavation and discoveries of Pompeii.

The book also points out the important fact that many of these erotic art ojects were not strictly for brothels but appeared in every day life. The penis, for instance, was a good-luck charm that appeared on buildings, erotic images were carved onto ordinary household items, so these things did not hold the controversy for ancient Pompeii that they might for readers of more "modern" sensibilities.

This is an excellent book, which, I believe, gives readers a real feeling for the ancient city of Pompeii . It would be quite useful for anyone planning a trip or interested in learning more about the culture of the city.

[NOTE: This is NOT English as a Second Language, despite the advertisers found here. Too many acronyms in the world.]

This is a very good overview of methodologies and approaches for doing ESL design. I heartily recommend this to help plan projects. Read it before you start the project. It should be read by project managers, architects and managers. Engineers should read this and use it to backup their requests for raising the bar in design.

When you're done reading this book and want to go deeper and learn SystemC, consider SystemC: From the Ground Up.
