What do we do now?
Where do we go from here?

These questions have been on the minds - if not the lips - of thousands of concerned Americans ever since Bill Clinton survived the disarray and disaffection of the 1992 campaign to win the presidency.

Suddenly faced with the possibility of sweeping social and political change, many of us are looking for answers. It is not so much that we want tactical blueprints as much as principled and visionary leadership for the future. We are looking for a prophetic caveat to the haphazard and politically correct bromides of the media mandarins and Washington insiders that now presume to speak for us.

In this symposium, some of the brightest minds in Christian and conservative circles offer just that. Real and substantive alternative approaches to the grave cultural issues of the day: a growing economy, accountability in government, family values, the sanctity of life, enviromentalism, and constitutional liberties.

How you come to perceive yourself?

"The Chat Room and Other Latino Plays" explores the complexities of Latino gay life through characters and events that challenge our expectations in both funny and disturbing ways. Several closeted men meet in a public space to flirt with each other, but end up discussing the joys and pains of fatherhood. A bisexual man surprises his gay partner with an unusual birthday gift: a Puerto Rican. A Latino-Rican decides to pursue a chat room date with a mysterious man that slowly takes over his apartment and even brings a woman in. All three plays are an invitation to revise our values and to experiment with new identities. Writers like Leo Cabranes, whose plays Floricanto is putting out, in effect, leading the way. Leo addresses the issue: what does it mean to be a Latino-American in the U.S? How does the color of your skin, or your accent, or any of a dozen of perceived differences affect not only how you may be treated-demonized, vilified, adored, iconized-but also how you come to perceive yourself?

Accomplished author Jean Sheldon returns with her third novel about Chicago Police Detective Kerry Grant in "A Chilling Goodbye." The third is a great follow up to the first two; Kerry Grant is a determined policeman who considers justice to be of paramount importance, and who is willing to plow through any obstacle to see the right thing done. Mystery fans everywhere, especially fans of the previous Kerry Grant novels, should seek out "A Chilling Goodbye" for an upstanding, forthright read.

Glen Grant has done it again! This time it is a story of Mrs. Sugihara who runs a shave ice store. Every night people would gather around her store to hear uncanny tales of ghosts and monsters in hopes of seeing the spirit of Miss Yanagi. The dead Japanese language teacher. Highly reccomended for those dark lonly nights when the wind is howling and shadows lurk on the walls.

One of the most important books you will need for education in genetic counselling and interpretation of cytogenetic results. Its a pleasure to read and additionally, delivers insight into psychological problems rising from integration of cytogenetically "abnormal" individuals in the human society.

A very good reference, could use 2nd edition

A very useful quick reference, but could use a second edition that could include all the events from 1993-1999. A time line on the right margin lists events small and large regarding political and military events for each year. The text inside is more like a newspaper article in its formatting as well as the heavy paper it uses in its printing. World War I and especialy WWII has large sections of the book dedicated to it documenting all the events of the wars. I use this book all the time for papers here in college (as a Pol Sci major) and would reccomend it.

These comics are enjoyed by our entire family. Our 10 year old son can't seem to put them down as the illustrations and content are clever and entertaining. We love how Bently Boyd brings history to life in a fun, creative and easy reading style. After my son is finished reading he can't wait to share what he read with the entire family. We have acquired the entire set of Chester Comix with Content Series and love them all. These make a GREAT gift for anyone of any age or even for teachers as they are an awesome learning tool. This is a definate must have for the entire family. ENJOY!

Grant's "Memoirs" and Memories of Lee in one nice Gift Book
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2002-10-26
This is a lavishly illustrated abridgement of Grant's wonderful "Personal Memoirs" and of Confederate Officer Armistead Long's "Memoirs of Robert E. Lee", two of the major works of the Civil War (Lee never did get around to writing his own memoirs).

While it must be stressed that this is an abridgement, and the actual volumes themselves are worth purchasing on their own, especially Grant's, the clear text and the extraordinary and realistic illustrations makes this volume a perfect gift for the Civil War buff this holiday season, or a worthy addition to one's own Civil War Library even if you already have the separate volumes - as I do.
