Glen Grant has done it again! This time it is a story of Mrs. Sugihara who runs a shave ice store. Every night people would gather around her store to hear uncanny tales of ghosts and monsters in hopes of seeing the spirit of Miss Yanagi. The dead Japanese language teacher. Highly reccomended for those dark lonly nights when the wind is howling and shadows lurk on the walls.

One of the most important books you will need for education in genetic counselling and interpretation of cytogenetic results. Its a pleasure to read and additionally, delivers insight into psychological problems rising from integration of cytogenetically "abnormal" individuals in the human society.

A very useful quick reference, but could use a second edition that could include all the events from 1993-1999. A time line on the right margin lists events small and large regarding political and military events for each year. The text inside is more like a newspaper article in its formatting as well as the heavy paper it uses in its printing. World War I and especialy WWII has large sections of the book dedicated to it documenting all the events of the wars. I use this book all the time for papers here in college (as a Pol Sci major) and would reccomend it.

These comics are enjoyed by our entire family. Our 10 year old son can't seem to put them down as the illustrations and content are clever and entertaining. We love how Bently Boyd brings history to life in a fun, creative and easy reading style. After my son is finished reading he can't wait to share what he read with the entire family. We have acquired the entire set of Chester Comix with Content Series and love them all. These make a GREAT gift for anyone of any age or even for teachers as they are an awesome learning tool. This is a definate must have for the entire family. ENJOY!

Grant's "Memoirs" and Memories of Lee in one nice Gift Book

This is a lavishly illustrated abridgement of Grant's wonderful "Personal Memoirs" and of Confederate Officer Armistead Long's "Memoirs of Robert E. Lee", two of the major works of the Civil War (Lee never did get around to writing his own memoirs).
While it must be stressed that this is an abridgement, and the actual volumes themselves are worth purchasing on their own, especially Grant's, the clear text and the extraordinary and realistic illustrations makes this volume a perfect gift for the Civil War buff this holiday season, or a worthy addition to one's own Civil War Library even if you already have the separate volumes - as I do.

Yep it is time for me to be exposed to culture so I thought I would go see a classic (Troy "Brad Pitt".) but first I need o know a little about the story and the Author. So I turned to my trusty reference, "The Classics Reclassified" by Richard Armour.
My copy must have been written about the time of Homer as it has no ISBN number.
This volume helps one understand the classics in a way they can be appreciated. It is refreshing to read a book by someone that had made the learning experience so palatable. (No I did not eat the book.)
Richard Armour starts out with a succinct and to the point biography of the classic writer. He makes clear what other books only imply. After this he follows up with the classic it's self.
The contents:
Homer
The Iliad "From the original Greek, Whoever he was"
William Shakespeare
Julius Caesar "et tu, William"
Sir Walter Scott
Ivanhoe "upright knights, tilting and toppling"
Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Scarlet Letter "an A for effort"
Herman Melville
Moby Dick "strong men cry and whales blubber"
George Eliot
Silas Marner "a moral with a tale"
Charles Dickens
David Copperfield "or up from poverty"
The book also contains sketches at relevant or irreverent intervals.

Tolkien, Lewis, L'engle, all of these writers wrote the fantasy books people enjoy. But Jordan has taken it a step further. With this series, he has introduced us to a world of imagination and glory, a place where a tale may never end. The charectors, including Rand, Perrin, Matt, Elayne, Aviehenda, Egwene and others, are so detailed and thorough that you believe you know them in real life. The details of the surroundings, the way things are described, all are Jordan's ways of painting the oh so perfect picture of the story in our minds. The series dosn't seem to tell about a made up fantasy, but instead of a historical invent witnessed throught the eyes of the author then relayed back to us, the readers. In every book, Jordan seems to know just how to add things in, and create a richer world for the charectors to explore. But the deatils arn't all of Jordan's talent. The plot itself is a unique tale. Many other authors have written fantsy stories, with wars and magic, but Jordan seems to do more than just tell a story, instead he allows you to enter it. The plot follows many main and non-main charrectors, each contributing a part to the story's patteren. It follows Rand, as the Dragon Reborn, with magical abilities, and trying to controll himself from going mad. Or Elayne, queen of Camylen. Or Matt, whose unusuall talent of gambling tends to get him in trouble. And Perrin, a wolf brother, and so many more. Jordan seems to let the charectors write they're own story, while he acts as the supervisor. All in all, this series is one no fantasy reader, correction, any reader, can put down.

Kerry Grant, Chicago Detective, has not taken a vacation since her parents were killed in an accident during their own vacation. When she is pressed by her superior and partner to take a vacation, she relents by attending her twenty-fifth class reunion with her childhood friend. Naturally murder rears its ugly head in the form of a recreated and unsolved mystery in which Kerry finds both the old murder victim and the new murder victim. Kerry's old classmates figure into the mix, but she takes a while to summon all the ingredients:
"She told them about the reunion and what happened twenty-five years earlier. 'I always knew Shayna's death wasn't an accident, and that they set up the sandbag to make it look that way. Now, Lisa Whitaker, who wanted to show me what she found about Shayna's death, is murdered. That's why we were meeting on the stage. Whatever she discovered convinced her that Shayna didn't die because of a bad snap hook. All I need to do is figure out what she saw and what it meant."
Jean Sheldon has a terrific imagination, and her plotting of this mystery reunites the characters from her first mystery who become Kerry's "civilian detectives." Kerry is the same stubborn and impetuous character who risks life and limb to right a wrong. She is a lovable heroine who needs help getting around for much of the story after almost being killed by someone who doesn't want her snooping.
SHOULD OLD ACQUAINTANCE BE DEAD once again uses computer and telephone fraud to warn readers of the new cyber-crime that is lurking. In the meantime, sharing Kerry's adventures and reluctant romance is a great time. A wonderful read!
