I've been a huge Judge Dread fun for a long time, and I was pleasently surprised to find these books of alternate universe fiction. His meeting with Batman was very well depicted, especially when the differences, as well as the hidden similarities, of the two heros were shown. Also, their different aproaches on how to fight their common enemy is one of the highlights of the book. A definite must read to all Judge Dread funs!

This is absolutely exquisite, as a piece of storytelling and a piece of art. Dave McKean's art is layered, with various textures present. I'm particularly fond of a page with a lace curtain wafting over the scene depicted. The story is quite unsettling, but beautifully told. I think this was my first graphic novel, and the first time I experienced comics that weren't designed for car trips, but to make one think and appreciate the form. I cannot recommend it enough. See also McKean's work with Neil Gaiman, esp. "Violent Cases".

I got the Book three years ago and went and put it on my book shelf. I recently ordered the graphic novel by Frank Miller: The Dark Knight Returns, and after reading that went and searched my book shelf for Kightfall And Beyond. Knightfall is a gripping novel of the fall of Batman by Bane, the newest criminal to hit Gotham's streets. With Batman broken, Bruce Wayne chooses Jean Paul Valley, A.K.A. Azrael, to become the the new dark knight. But the new Batman's ways of dealing with crime are too Harsh and are giving Batman's name a Bad rap. After defeating Bane, Batman kills two people and Bruce Decideds the he has made the wrong decision. After being healed by Dr. Shondra Kinsolving with her psyoinic healing power, Bruce makes his way back up to reclaiming the mantel of the Bat. When Bruce first became Batman he vowed to fight crime without taking another man's life. So now to take back his name, Bruce must defeat the man who defeated Bane. Once I started to read this book I couldn't put it down! I suggest this book to any age group and you should read it even if you aren't a batman fan! You should also read the Graphic novels Kightfall:Broken Bat and Kightfall:Who Rules the Night.

Excellent resource to take to the beach. Laminated cards have an illustration and the common and scientific name (e.g. Soft-Shelled Clam -- Mya arenaria) on one side. The back gives tips for identification and locating and size. There are also interesting facts and it tells if the species is native. Produced by the prestigious Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, these cards contain accurate, intelligent (not dumb-downed) information. The cards are held together by a cool metal lock and come with a red china pen to write on the cards and a mesh bag for collecting shells, etc. Karen Woodworth Roman, Children's Science Book Review

The books takes you to a far away place,it could be a Venitian palace or a Turkish house of worship. The colors and design makes you wish you were a guest at this hidden get away. The short stories that acompany the photos give life to the msyterious surroundings. The book is a colelctions of most peoples fantisy getaways.

Readers in grades 5-7 will find this 'New Perspectives' series addition stands alone as an excellent survey of history surrounding the Berlin Wall in general and Eastern Europe in particular. The Berlin Wall uses different viewpoints to tell of how the wall was built, how it affected the peoples' lives, and how it came down. Politics is clearly explained and explored.

Great tips and a good reference
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.

The book lists several web sites to use and other books, but the tips included in the book are pretty good by themselves. It tells you how to get your scholarship applications noticed, not just how to do it. I won several awards by using the techniques so I'd definitely say it's worth it! My scholarships totalled over 10,000 dollars when you include the recurring one for the 4 years. I really like the chapters about helping students prepare for college - they have some good tips for money management. The author's style seems pretty straightforward, but it doesn't get boring since she keeps giving you so much information and places to go search for stuff. Great book!

An EXCELLENT Resource for Planning a PERFECT Hawaii Vacation
Helpful Votes: 42 out of 44 total.
Review Date: 1999-01-09
I just got this book and I was so impressed with the writer's straight-forward style that I felt like an old friend was suggesting the best places to stay in Hawaii. It is honest and detailed and a must-have book for planners who want to make the most of their stay in Paradise.

Grant categorizes the many B&Bs, resorts, inns, condos etc. according different travellers' tastes and needs. Each island has her recommendations for "Best Romantic Hideaways," "Best Resorts for Wordly Elegance," "Best Family Resorts," "Best Resort Values," etc.

Based on her description and pictures we saw on the web, we are confident we have found exactly what we are looking for on the three islands that we want to visit on our honeymoon.

I can't say enough about it! If you are going to Hawaii and you don't want a cookie-cutter-travel-agent-planned vacation, but you still want value for your money, do yourself a favor and buy this book.
