This is a timeless book -- his course was excellent as well. It is just plain common sense and a great foundation.

Excellent Reference Work.

The Art of Fund Raising tells you nothing about "turn key" operations in development, nothing about "mass mailings." Warner tells you, in his wonderfully simple and very eloquent writing that fund raising is about giving of yourself to help people find what is best for them. He explains that fund raising is the very essence of humanity, and its only money that gets in the way. Your job is to take Warner's work and interpret fund raising and use your own contacts and skills
for your clients. I refer a lot to the Do's and Don'ts section and especially enjoy his
often humorous, and very insightful "It happened to me, don't let it happen to you" section. 35+ years of experience and hundreds of satisfied students, readers and clients can't be wrong. Enjoy

I hadn't played bridge in 45 years, and I wasn't very good even then. Audrey's book presents a clear and well-organized introduction to bidding and playing, with many good example hands with explanations.

Excellent for rubber and contract bridge players.

Grant's series goes from beginning bridge players to medium skilled. A wonderful, easy to read and understand series.

guaranteed to inspire!

Grant's captivating autobiography was an inspiration-- it was very difficult to put down. Here's a man who has clearly overcome much adversity and has a concrete plan in place to help others take responsibility for their lives and rise above their own challenging situations. At a time in my life's journey where the sheer scale and number of causes for which I have the capacity to fight have overwhelmed me, this poignant (and humorous) book helped me to see on practical terms that one who is focused, determined, and willing to help real people in real communities can truly leave an imprint which can alter our society for the better. It's not just for "today's African American youth" as the editorial review suggests... it's for people of all ethnicities and ages. READ THIS BOOK!

A Surefire Way To Order Your Priorities.
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-03
The original book by J. Grant Howard was a text book at Bible college. This book influenced my perspective of priorities.

I grew up hearing about the heirarchial approach of priorities. For example, God is first, then your spouse, then children/parents, then job, etc. But do we spend over 40 hours a week serving God, with our spouse, and with our children? It looks great on paper but is impossible to live out consistently.

Howard proposes a different model. God is the central priority. Then, there are the other various priorities all connected to God. Thus, there may be times when one priority becomes more important than others, but each area of our life is under God's authority.

Finding the right perspectives

J. Grant Howard gives an incredible amount of wisdom for those of us who sometimes struggle with our priorities. I often hear people say if there is one struggle they have in life it's with priorities. If you struggle with finding what relationships or "items" in your life need the most attention, then this book is for you. Howard shares from experience. From being a pastor, a dad, a seminary professor, and a man who loves the Lord, this book shares from the heart of someone who has lived out what he is writing. Because of this, this book is transparent and gives hope to those who live in the "tyranny of the urgent".

Great book! I liked how the book goes through each step of the consulting process. Follow the steps and you can't go wrong. Probably the best feature is the practical advice given in each of the chapters. For example, the authors tell you what questions to ask in the first meeting with a client, how to write a successful proposal and contract, how to conduct interviews, how to collect data, how to present your results, and a ton of other very helpful information. I also liked the brief pieces of advice given by expert consultants that appear in every chapter. No question in my mind that if you follow the process and advice in this book you will have a very successful consulting practice. This one's a keeper!

I am in agreement with the review written by Margaret Neale of Stanford University in that this book is able to effectively travel the distance between novice and experienced consultants alike. This will certainly prove to be an excellent consulting tool for everyone and anyone who reads and embracing the lessons within The Basic Principles of Effective Consulting. I would highly recommend this book.

Good story, AWESOME artist

Agree with other reviewer. This is a great story, that is quite tragic and one of the better Batman stories, I have to say. But i tell you, this Jim Murray guy who did the artwork is amazing. Its funny that people forgot sometimes that comics are 2 components (unlike novels/books). Story AND art. Thats why even though the Sandman stories are pretty cool, just look at the artwork of the guy who did Sandman #1. Maybe one of the worst artists ever? The sandman story...great. The artwork?? Sucks. ( for the first few issues anyhow. IN later issues, Gaimen found some great artists). Anyhow, my point being...this is what truly makes a great comic. Both Great artwork and story. Most comics only have one or the other.

Jaw-dropping artwork!

BOTTOM LINE:

The paintings alone are worth the price of this book! I own a scarce 1st printing with the better cover (IMO), but the story itself is a nice, modern twist of the Etrigan the Demon story. Bruce is the 'cage' and this demon is truly monstrous! You want to own this.

We all know about how bad the movie was, but you won't get the full story if you don't read the book. Batman and Robin have just recently become partners. When a new enemy arrives, Mr. Freeze, they must stop him from turning the city into his own personal ice world. But that's not their only problem. Soon, Mr.Freeze joins forces with Poison Ivy and they decide to try and conquer the world together.

While all this is happening, Batman's trusty butler, Alfred, is dying, and Poison Ivy's magic dust is making Batman and Robin fight with each other. Soon, Batman, Robin, and their new partner, Batgirl, must put aside their differences and work together.

I think all enthusiasts of Grant Green should be grateful to Wolf Marshall for this product. GG's technique and musicality deserve great study and admiration. Thanks to Wolf Marshall's guide more and more people will be able to give it just that. The transcriptions are faultlessly accurate and the choice of tracks is excellent.

Wolf has yet to dissapoint me with his transcriptions and this is no exception. Grant, one of the best guitarists in history IMHO, is woefully under represented in the music book industry. I think he's had 2 songs transcirbed for guitar magazine, and this book are IT. And I think that's a crime. Especially considering Grant was Wes's main competition and that a huge chunk of the Blue note catalog has Grants name on it. Thanks Wolf, for bringing this sorely needed information to us.

Thorough text at intelligent level

Review Date: 2007-12-15
I'm just through reading the first half of Vol. 1, but I am so far impressed with its thoroughness and clarity. When I looked at other biology text books for self-study, many seemed padded with extraneous material and gimmicks. Worse, these texts talked down to the reader. "Biological Sciences" is not chatty in a forced attempt to be 'relevant' but instead makes demands on the reader without being willfully obscure. Even better, the pages are not full of fashionable white space, but packed with text. The only caveat I have is that since 1996, surely many developments have cropped up since this last edition. But for basics, this is top notch.

This book is a treasure. I used it several years ago as a sophomore in high school to prepare for the AP Examination in Biology. Wonderfully illustrated, exceptionally written, and very easy to use!

I got a "5" on the exam, which is the highest score attainable... I think that speaks for itself!
