This is an excellent collection of early and medieval poetry from the north of Britain, competently translated into modern
English from five languages (Latin, Welsh, Gaelic, Old English and Norse). As such it brings together from a Northern perspective
a great variety of poems usually segregated into their own linguistic pigeonholes. Each selection has its own brief historical
headnote. A useful collection for the student, and a rewarding box of surprises for the casual browser.

THis book is a facsimile reprint of a fiftieth anniversary of WWII joint publication compiled by the US Army Center of Military
History and the History Office of the US Army Intelligence and Security Command and published by the GPO. As official works
of the US government are not copyrighted, anyone can reprint them either facsimile or reset.
The story of pre WWII rivalry between the US Navy and the US Army signal intelligence units has long been known. Because of the sensitivity of the original sources and methods involved the WWII information was to be kept long classified although after the later establishment of the DOD National Security Agency amalgamating rhe Army and Navy organizations and the NSA's ensuing changeover to mightily powerful electronic computers replacing the older WWII era electro-mechanical decyphering machines by the fifties made the continuing classification really unnecessary.
The most well known achievements of American SIGINT in WWII are the decoding of the German Enigma devices and the breaking of the Japanese codes.
The broad outines of the WWII American SIGINT operations have long been known. In the eighties a series of reports known as SRH was finally declassified and sent to the National Archives. These histories and executive summaries include detailed acounts of organizational matters during the War and earlier.
Though this publisher has added some illustrations and an index, you do not need it if you have the original Government edition. I must express my annoyance with the publisher's blurb omission of the fact this is indeed a reissue. If it had been so stated, I would not have purchased it, and been spared the inconvenience of returning ir.
Though many details of operations and methods concerning WWII SIGINT have long been known, the documents published here are primary sources. Thst said, if you are a serious student of SIGINT you must have this book in whatever edition.

The book has very clear & concise step by step instructions. The photographs are professionally formatted. With the proper
equipment, supplies, and dedicated workmanship, your personally made ukulele will surpass in quality and value any ukulele
you find in the market. I know because I have the book and am working on my third ukulele. The first I made for myself, the
second for my daughter, and the third for my son. I now have family heirlooms to be proud of. I highly recommend this book.
Ukulele-making is a fine art and to discover an ukulele-making book is a rare find. Hurry! Don't miss out. Grab one while
you can. Denis Gilbert, my family thanks you very much for the opportunity to create treasures from the heart. Mahalo nui

Nice book with great backing tracks- Well worth the $

I'm a strong intermediate player and I bought this book mainly for the backing tracks, not knowing what they were. The book
provides music score and some narrative for each of the backing tracks on the CD. The tracks are best described as classic
hard rock jams using many different progressions other than I, IV, VI which I appreciate. It opened my mind to other chord
progressions.
Each track has a lead intro followed by about 2-3 minutes backing w/o lead guitar. The idea is that you can study the style of the lead and then improvise on your own. The narrative gives you some suggestions, presents some tabs of the scales that should be used and other hints to the soloist approach. I believe there about 10 tracks in total.
This is not for begginers, as you need to have a good understanding of theory, scales, arps and chords to get any pleasure out of this process. I found that I gravitated to about 3 of the songs and spent some time learning some of the riffs and chord progressions. There where a couple that I really like, edited out the solo and ripped them into MP3 and put them on my Tascam guitar trainer. That way, I can play them through my PA and jam along at full strength.
The tracks are of good quality. The book allows you to play along, understand some of the techniques that the soloist used in their version and then just do your own thing. I wish there where more books like this that had more tracks. Since it is a matter of individual preference how many tracks you will enjoy , more would be better. I find it a great way of learning better soloing technique without having the pressure of learning to play a particular riff perfectly for a cover song. I would gladly pay more for a complete volume of say 50 tacks with the same treatment. Instead I have been buying other books like this which has been hit or miss; some being ok and others just not to my taste. If anyone has some recommendations for books like this, send them to me at kevmclau@yahoo.com

TO CLIMB THIS MONUMENT OF 20TH CENTURY NOVEL, LET US TAKE EVERY POINT OF VIEW

The author himself assisted in this impossible translation into French of his novel Ulysses (Gabler Edition), which has been
declared the greatest novel of the Twentieth Century.
First published in ENglish in France by Shakespeare and Company, this novel had also been serialized in a French revue. For a long time it was unavailable for sale in English speaking nations, even as it was being translated into other languages, including the Spanish and French.
I have of course the early Spanish translation, Ulises 1st Spanish Language Edition ( Ulysses ) Complete & Unabridged which I discovered in a supermarket in Mexico. Thanks to the amazon, I now have this first French translation as well, in a forty year old paperback edition, unread. We must all thank amazon for the wonderful service provided here in support of literacy.
This book is of course impossible to translate fully, with all of its puns and puzzles and wordplay, but not as badly as Finnegans Wake (Penguin Modern Classics), of which fragments were in fact translated for this same publisher. Here in this edition we have Ulysses unabridged, in French.
I enjoy coming from a close familiarity of the original to reading in French, including the French argot of the forties supplanting the English slang. Thus, Buck's nose rag becomes a tire-jus. For a further flavor of the French, consider this parodically Dickensian introduction of Mr. Leopold Bloom's character (unaccented, sorry):
"M. Leopold Bloom se nourrissait avec delectation des organes internes des mammiferes et des oiseaux. ( . . .) Par-dessus tout il aimait les rognons de mouton au gril qui flatteint ses papilles gustatives d'une belle saveur a leger parfum d'urine."
The famous slogan for potted meats becomes: "Qu'est la maison sans les pates Prunier? Incomplete. Avec, c'est le paradis."
You may sense therefore that something is lost, and something gained, in reading and doing translations. This, with the author's own collaboration and that of Mr. Gilbert, is no doubt as good as it gets. An old expression which loses its flavor in going from the Romance languages to "lean, unlovely" English holds that all translation is treason, betrayal, and indeed lamentably much is sadly, nostalgically lost. Nevertheless we may with confidence read this French translation of our greatest novel in the English language, now available in English speaking nations, and learn even more from it as we do with each reading. It is well worth the bon voyage!

I was fortunate enough to attend some lectures given by Dr Gilbert during my time at Dundee Dental School, i found her book
very uselful whilst learning the subject for the first time, and have continued to find it useful since graduation. I'd recommend
this book to any dental undergraduate (dentist, hygienist or therapist) or to a dental professional wishing to revise their
periodontal knowledge and periodontal classifications.
