I must have looked through dozens of books when I was first diagnosed with depression. This one is absolutely the best. Insightful and caring without being swarmy or condescending (why do so many authors treat people with depression like they are children?). You'll see yourself in this book--I know I did.

Was superb.... A must for those that are spiritual and continously seeking. I bought a copy of the book in 1980-an autographed copy at that. Over the years the book has become worn and torn-but I still have the autographed portion. The author used to also have a spot on one of our local radio stations in Philadelphia. Sadly, the author has since died. I miss his pratical nonjudgemental advice. I am anxious to again purchase this book one day.

A great new book for kids by Dr. Komechak. She packs a lot of fun and adventure into an exciting story with twists and turns you can't believe unless you're a roadrunner yourself.

A wonderful little ranch girl buddies up with a speedy and courageous little cuckoo bird on her Texas ranch. From range war to rattlesnake roundup, Kelly and her piasano, Pete, are knee-deep in nonstop action.

Everything you never thought you'd ever know about roadrunners. With exceptional artwork throughout the book.

How to Tell and Hear 6 stories from John's Gospel

From a master biblical storyteller/preacher/theologian/NT scholar -- a book for non-experts that shows how the stories from John's gospel can profitably be told and heard. Deals with 6 stories from John: 1) the Samaritan woman, 2) the man born blind, 3) Mary and Martha, 4) Pilate, 5) Mary Magdalene, 6) Peter and forgiveness. Narrative analysis for laypeople!! Great stuff.

I can't think of a more wonderfully simple way to honor someone than to provide a means to share a part of one self with loved ones. This book provides just enough guidance to allow anything from simple notes, sketches to journaling. A way to leave a legacy of sorts, to those who mean the most in our lives, as one prepares for the next passage...

An Arthur Crook mystery...

Review Date: 2004-03-08
Sarah Hollis, a young English girl with a broken romance, rents a villa in the French Alps with two friends. Arriving a week ahead of the others, she finds herself alone in a sinister, ghostly hourse with a locked room, memories of an eccentric old woman now dead, and strong rumors of buried treasure.

Soon Sarah learns that her supposed landlady is an imposter, and the rightful owner's claims are being challenged by a good-looking American male of doubted origins. To her horror she discovers that someone is trying to remove her from the scene by tampering with her car. Though warned, she still refuses to leave the villa. Then she disappears.

Meanwhile, in France on another case is the doughty Arthur Crook and he is pressed into service to find out where she is. Dashing about in his ancient Rolls, he speedily links Sarah's disappearance to the murder of a recent corpse and proceeds to foil the desperate plot in which she's stumbled in. With his brusque charm, he even plays Cupid briefly as Sarah finds a more lasting love.

We have celebrated dozens of Passover Seders with this simple, elegant book as a guide. While it's language may not be as poetic as some, it tells the story in a way that speaks to everyone from my 93 year old Grandmother to the youngest who stammers over the Four Questions, to the guest experiencing his or her first Seder. We have other hagadot, but this is the one we have adopted as our family's tradition.

A wonderful book. I got it because I always thought Scraps and the Scarecrow should get married, since they have so much in common. One Christmas Eve, the love magnet above the Emerald City gates makes Scraps fall in love with the Scarecrow, and vice versa. If you want to know the rest, read the book! All in all, I think it's wonderful (and funny).

Intriguing pattern

Review Date: 2006-08-18
Arthur Grimble's account of his years as a District Officer in the Gilbert and Ellis Islands (now Tuvalu)in the 1920s is absolutely fascinating. He describes the islands and their inhabitants in a way that makes you long to see them.

It is not a romantacised account, the inconveniences and hardships of island life are not glossed over, but Arthur Grimble clearly loved the islands and their people. He had some astonishing experiences which are described in vivid detail, like witnessing the magical summoning of the porpoises, and his hair-raising encounter with sharks. His surprising account of delivering a baby is quite remarkable. And the description of how he had his arms tattooed in the traditional island manner is not for the squeamish.

When he returns to England and tries to describe to the people at the Colonial Office some of the difficulties to be encountered in the islands, the young man in the personnel office exclaimes: "But - my dear fellow! I mean to say, good heavens! If we told our applicants even a quarter of these facts in advance, we'd never get a bally recruit!"

Perhaps not, but reading this book you get the impression that Arthur Grimble wouldn't have missed his years there for the world. An unforgettable book.
