Restoring the Rule of Law Review Date: 2007-08-19
Cowboy Republic: Reader! Inform yourself with the very best..Review Date: 2007-07-12
It is a scholarly and complete exposition of a vital subject, the ruination of our country both inside and outside. Ms. Cohn skillfully describes the Bush-led hollowing-out of our former constitutional liberties coupled with a catastrophic war. Marjorie Cohn, President of the National Lawyers Guild, an organization of lawyers who value human rights over property rights, uses the analytical abilities of a skilled lawyer and law professor to point the way out of the mess.
Ms. Cohn's writing makes you want to read on and on, and lay all other things aside until the book is read. How many books of any kind do that to you?

An inspirational mentor -- General DoriotReview Date: 2008-07-09
HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL'S BESTReview Date: 2008-07-07
The book is well written and provides a useful insight on the private man. It's too bad that this information was not available in 1960.
The Unexpected Father of Venture Capitalism Review Date: 2008-08-04
However, that foreigner had some assets: a strong Protestant work ethic, a passion for technology and the future, a confident yet humble personality that was at ease with people of all stations in life, a strong volubility, a sense of compassion, and a deep understanding of the importance of education. Furthermore, that same foreigner wanted to run one day his own company after the example of his father.
Who would have bet in 1921 that such a foreigner would one day become:
1) Arguably the most influential and popular professor at Harvard University's Graduate School of Business;
2) The driver behind the foundation of INSEAD, one of the leading business schools in the world;
3) The man who played a key role in the well-being of the American soldiers during WWII by spearheading to their benefit a quite revolution in engineering;
4) And last but not least, the father of the venture financing industry as we know it today around the world.
That foreigner was a Frenchman and his name was Georges Doriot. As it is often the case, an extraordinary woman, who remained mostly in the background, was part of that story. Her name was Edna Allen and she was American.
To summarize, Ante succeeds in bringing back to light a man whose contributions deserve to be better known, especially, in business circles.
WWII and Venture Capital History Lovers - A MUST READ!!!!Review Date: 2008-04-23
Ante's portrait is one of a driven maverick, visionary and Renaissance man who made an astonishing contribution to the war effort and modern business culture, and yet he seems very human and at times poignant. I was especially moved by Doriot's tireless passion in helping American soldiers as well has his 48-year marriage to his wife Edna and how they spent their last years together.
I loved this book because it's such an unusual and valuable contribution to our understanding of the 20th century. Doriot has been an unsung hero in many ways, and by bringing his life into focus, Ante weaves people and international events in a way that makes us see our world as ever more fascinating, multi-faceted and interconnected.

Every man's awakeningReview Date: 2008-05-26
It was very very good and made me think about Jesus and God's love for us. It is a very honest book and I cried several times as I read it. It has a great theme of forgiveness and mercy and a honest search for truth.

classic charactersReview Date: 2008-10-06
One bright point is the short story "Spotty" which was actually banned from southern libraries in the 20th Century as it deals with race. In a unique take on the "ugly duckling" story, Spotty, the mixed brown and white rabbit, struggles with an identity crisis seeking whether he belongs with his white rabbit family or if he should leave them to join a family of brown rabbits. It's a low-key values tale about how individual relationships and kinship can transcend racial barriers when we have compassion.
Clean, bright colors and large typeface accessible to early readers. High quality binding and printing.

Series of Essays on Why Custer Became a LegendReview Date: 2001-07-15
Required Reading For Custer Battle StudentsReview Date: 2004-07-09
This book is primarily focussed on an examination of the immediate aftermath of the Little Big Horn and how the various lines of controversy were established that still echo (unresolved) and are with us today. These include Did Custer Disobey Orders? Was Reno a coward when he fled from the valley fight? Were both Reno and Benteen negligent in not responding to Custer's written order for the packs, an order with an audible reminder of the gunfire four miles away that, two days later, the men on Reno Hill learned signalled the end of Custer and his command. All of the seeds of future books and endless debates were firmly planted by the end of the 1870s, topped off with the Reno Court of Inquiry. Excellent insight into that event and some of the second-hand talk and gossip sorroundingsthe officers who testified and why they may have said what they did. Utley is his usual dispassionate, detached self as he explores these issues in his highly engaging writing style.
Originally published in 1962, the book concludes with Utley's brief commentary on most of the major battle books published up to that time. One can only wish that this section were revised and updated. Lacking that, we can all look forward to the autor's CUSTER AND ME, due in October 2004.

His summation at the end tends to place him in the "Custer crowd" in that he did not feel Custer disobeyed Terry's orders, and that Custer acted appropriately with the information available to him at the time, although he does feel Custer fragmented his forces too much before the battle. One has to give his opinion great weight because he talked firsthand to more of the survivors of the LBH than anyone else.

Professor Cohn's book shows how an administration that claims a high regard for democracy and the rule of law has in truth demonstrated a deep-seated contempt for both -- explaining why the rest of the world is so fast losing faith in America and her ideals.
Professor Cohn's book should help Americans to come to terms with the harm that the Bush administration has done so far. And that, I believe, is a critical step to restoring our national decency and honor.
