Corduroy has become one of the best-loved bears in cildren's literature. I love this book because it's Hardcover and Corduroy's first two adventure books are now in one book: Corduroy & A Pocket for Corduroy. I read both of these books to my children & they are now favorites of my grandchildren. These stories have become irresistible childhood classics, as basic & appealing as a small bear's desire for a home & a friend.

Cynthia Freeman's last book. A very intriguing read.
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 1999-09-07
This is Cynthia Freeman's last book in terms of her published books. I found this book very interesting. It kept your interest from the beginning of the first chapter. The characters grow and mature a lot in this book. I would recommend this to all fiction and romance readers. Sadly, Cynthia Freeman died around the time this book was published. I have heard that she wrote two other books called, "Catch the Gentle Dawn" and "To Everything a Season" but have never been able to obtain them. Perhaps they were not even published. If you have any information about these books, please post it in a review.

Freeman offers an eye-opening perspective on the forces that have changed and developed the U.S. Labor Market. He highlights what he perceives to be it's biggest problems and offers explanations as well as recommendations to help the U.S. Labor Market. The final chapters really get past all of the historical forces that have brought it to where it is and offer a view of the future and challenges that must be met. It is a must read for anyone who is a part of the U.S. Labor Market - that means you!

Overview of America 1860s-1900
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-15
This book provides basic information about the Gilded Age. Although not in as much detail as some other books on the topic (e.g. America in the Gilded Age, The New Commonwealth), it covers all of the major events. It is very easy to read and contains photographs. At the end of each chapter (divided by years) are primary source documents, which are a nice addition not found in the other books I mentioned.

Invaluable Book for Jug Lovers
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-05-18
This book is for anyone who is a fan of the legendary P-47 Thunderbolt. I would especially recommend it for modelers. It follows the development of unit markings from the beginning of WWII all the way to VE Day. Mr. Freeman goes into great detail on who, what, where, and why, when it comes to the evolution of camouflage (or bare metal) on the P-47. Many of my questions were answered... such as, "Why were canopies of the 56th FG's late-model Jugs unpainted?" A: Because they were removed before the aircraft were sprayed. Chris Davey's illustrations alone are worth the price of the book many times over. If you're a 'Bolt Geek, you'll love this book!

Thirty-three American residential masterpieces
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2000-08-28
This book successfully captures the vast architectural contributions achieved in the Twentieth Century in American residential design by spotlighting 33 masterpieces located across the country.

The book begins with stunning photographs and drawings of remarkable homes built early in the century, including the Greene and Greene Gamble House in Pasadena, Ca., Rudolph Schindler's Lovell Beach House in Newport Beach, Ca., and Richard Neutra's Lovell Heath House in Los Angeles, Ca. Then, homes are featured that embody "the triumph of the modern American house," including Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater in Bear Run, Pa. The final and largest section of the book highlights "blueprints for modern living," such as Philip Johnson's Glass House in New Canaan, Ct., Louis Kahn's Korman House in Fort Washington, Pa., and Frank Gehry's house in Santa Monica, Ca.

The book lets the images of the homes, exterior and interior, speak for themselves through extra-large photographs. The accompanying commentary focuses well on the architects' contributions to architecture.

I very highly recommend this book. It is the best compilation of American residential masterpieces of the Twentieth Century that I've seen, and even more importantly, the authors have put the differing styles in perspective with the evolution of American architecture.

A dry classic
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2006-01-14
The book opens with a long preface and introduction in excellent 19th century style. Chapter 1 also gives the basic principles of heat, such as what we call "Newton's law of cooling" (sec. 3). From here we derive the heat equation (chapter 2, esp. §142). In chapter 3 we solve the heat equation for an infinite rectangle with given boundary conditions. This of course calls for the principles of Fourier analysis, which are explained in full generality (sec. 6). Then in chapters 4-8 we do the same thing for other bodies (rings, spheres, infinite cylinders, infinite rectangular prisms, cubes). In the case of cylinders, Fourier series are not appropriate to solve the corresponding heat equation in polar coordinates, so we must introduce Bessel functions. In chapter 9 we study the diffusion of heat in bodies with no boundary influence. The simplest example is the isolated, infinite line. This leads to Fourier integrals. Throughout, the theory is essentially identical to the modern one, except that Fourier couldn't care less about about convergence and such. It is understandable that Fourier wished to devote an entire book to the rudiments of Fourier analysis. I still think it's a pity that he didn't find it appropriate to include his favourite application: "The problem of the terrestrial temperatures presents one of the most beautiful applications of the theory of heat", he says (§12), but does not treat this problem further here.

Beautiful coffe table book
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2000-06-14
'Ancient Captials of Thailand' describes the old important cities and captials of Southern Thailand. These include Sukothai, Ayuthaya, Kampeng and several other cities. The book is beautifully illustrated with more than 350 photographs. It also provides site maps and descriptions of the different places and the major temples and structures. Thus, it's not just a 'picture book", but I can recommend this book both for content and quality of the pictures. The book does not cover the cities of the Northern Kingdoms (e.g., Lanna), this is supposed to be the topic of another book.
