Praise for The Contradictions of American Capital PunishmentReview Date: 2003-05-12
Stephen Bright
Director, Southern Center for Human Rights
"Frank Zimring's book will revolutionize how we understand the death penalty in the United States. Why, Zimring asks, does capital punishment persist in America, almost uniquely among established democracies, despite entrenched unfairness and the virtual inevitability of error? His original and provocative answer is America's vigilante tradition. Like vigilante action, the death penalty suffers from the biases of the dominant social group and the unwarranted assumption that the guilty have been correctly identified. Highlighting this uncomfortable comparison offers a promising new approach for those committed to ending this inhumane institution of American life."
Kenneth Roth, Executive Director, Human Rights Watch
"Frank Zimring's new book makes a major contribution to understanding the present situation of the death penalty in the United States and to predicting what lies ahead. Central to his analysis is his judgment that a "fundamental value conflict" lies at the root of the struggle: Will America's frontier "vigilante values" that support our death penalty practices survive their collision with our attachment to "due process" values? Written in his characteristically lively style, this provocative and completely original work has much to teach both defenders and opponents of capital punishment."
Hugo Adam Bedau, author of The Death Penalty in America

New creations and old classics, but all yummy!!Review Date: 2004-06-12
Then, while leafing through my cookbooks, I found a recipe for a wrap I really wanted to try. It was "Sesame Wrap with Honey and Tamarind Chicken and Oriental Salad": it was amazing! We all loved it, I just used white cabbage instead of Chinese Leaf which I didn't have at hand. From that night we made the dish several times, and we still love it. And then experimented with a lot of other recipes: the cracked pepper wraps with hot pork and apples were to lick your fingers, the Courgette (zucchini), Feta and Sun-Dried Tomato Pancakes were absolutely to die for and the lemon ricotta pancakes with raspberry sauce were yummy! Well, I could go on forever...
As you might have gathered I was disappointed at first, because I was focusing on crêpes alone and this book covers a wider range of subjects: crêpes, pancakes, speciality pancakes, like poffertjes, wraps, rolls...
There are a lot of gorgeous pictures, almost one for every recipe, a basic introduction on equipment and
pantry items and basic recipes for crêpes, wraps and so on with interesting variations. The recipes are clearly laid out and
easy to follow. There's one for every page, usually with the matching picture on the opposite page.
Some of the recipes
are well known classics, such as galette de Bretagne (delicious), but many others are new creations that will get you to the
kitchen straight away! Highly recommended.

As a physician, resident, scientist, exercise physiologist, student or anyone concerned about their own health, this is a must have.
I highly recommend this book. Barry Franklin and Neil Gordon are the most world reknown experts on exercise and cardiovascular health. Reading this book is like peering into the years of experience of their minds.
Please do not hesitate to buy this book.
