This is a great book. The counterpart of Gary LaFontaine's classic on the caddis. The book is well researched, clearly written, well illustrated with drawings and photographs. Filled with recipes for all the mayflies you could want to tie.

Everything about this book is first class, the quality of its construction, illustrations and top-rate information. The book focuses on info that can really be used by the fly fisherman. I found it both fascinating and helpful. If you want to move from guessing about which insects to use to being knowledgeable, this is the book to have. I think anyone confused by insect hatches and their importance to trout fishing will find this book extremely invaluable.

The book has a short introduction to the various types of insects found in western waters. From the intro, it moves on to the insects most commonly found in the region, their importance to trout feeding, the differences among them, including those existing between the male and female of each species, the patterns to imitate them (with appropriate sizes, colors, etc) and the best times to fish them.

This is a beautiful book and should be in any fly fisherman's collection. I highly recommend it.

Aquatic entomologist Rick Hafele and fly fisherman Dave Hughes combine their knowledge and experience in Western Mayfly Hatches From The Rockies To The Pacific, a straightforward reference packed with everything the the fisherman needs to know with regard to how to identify and match mayflies and how to fish their imitations, as well as a wealth of information fascinating to anyone interested in collecting and observing mayflies, their behavior and their natural history. Full-color illustrations and more than 350 color photographs throughout add a bright touch to this thick compilation of information gathered over twenty years. A must-have for anyone, whether inclined toward science or fishing, who needs to know more about the secret lives of mayflies.

I read this collection of sermons in one sitting, I couldn't put it down. And I wished I could have heard them. This message is powerful (of course! It's got the power of the Creator of the universe behind it!) and practical. These words grasp the hurting soul and show a better way, a way out of pain. No sugar coating or shortcuts here.

A Must Read for African American Teenage Girls

In looking for a book to give advice to a heartbroken teenage Christian girl - who had fallen into sexual sin- I stumbled upon this treasure. How refreshing to hear from an African American male on this subject. As a female, we can only give girls so much advice, but when the girls hear it from the male point of view, maybe they will believe what Christian mothers have been trying to say to their daughters for years. I also found the book helpful for parents as well. Have your teen read this book as soon as the issue of dating comes up!

It went from curiosity to a life-changing journey. Dr. Thomas has delivered his soul to people struggling with relationship additions. He delivered his heart and faith to the fiber of my feelings. It was during the second reading that I transformed from teacher to pupil. I have taught teens for years the fundamentals of love God's way. Never have I heard so succinctly the truth God's love His way. Melodramas, relationship additions, sex-capades and stuck on stupid are all spelled with care and honesty from an author with an attitude. His book shook my soul and broke my heart. I knew God was dealing with my own weaknesses, then. When God's uses this author in real time, you know a booklet of this caliber has the passion and power of a preacher at large. He delivered his soul and saved mine. Read it and be changed. It may save your relationships.

This book is amazing. It's the best non-fiction that I've read in years; it's as chilling as an action packed fiction book. The footnotes and sources take up about a 1/3 of the book; read all of the archived documents!

I discovered this book two years ago at our local library after I saw the documentary on public TV. I've read it twice.

It's helped inspire me to remember that 1 person really can make a difference, even if our contributions are a lot less! We can't take our freedoms for granted!

Enlightening!

"When Truth Was Treason" gives an important look into the experience of some of the German people under the control of the Nazi State during the atrocities taking place in Germany during World War II. I especially enjoyed the added information included in the extensive footnote section at the end of the book. I appreciate the opportunity to know of the heroism of some of those who resisted the evil of Hitler. This is a moving account of a side of the history of World War II we are often completely unaware of.

Its a documentary!

An interesting look into aviation history

Spenser's _Whirlybirds_ describes the evolution and development of the helicopter. Although Leonardo Da Vinci's notes and several European refinements are discussed, the book primarily concentrates on the efforts of four Americans: Igor Sikorsky, Frank Piasecki, Arthur Young, and Stanley Hiller.

Sikorsky, an immigrant from the Ukraine, is occasionally credited with inventing the helicopter. Although he did not invent the helicopter, he made many refinements. Sikorsky is still the first name in helicopters today.

Piasecki built a small helicopter at a young age. His company eventually became Boeing Vertol.

Young also got started with helicopters early in life. The company that he founded became Bell Helicopters, later Bell Helicopter Textron.

Hiller was unique among the four helicopter pioneers in that he started out in California, not on the east coast. He was somewhat isolated from the centers of early helicopter development. Hiller Aircraft exists today as a manufacturer of light helicopters.

Helicopters proved to be invaluable for the military, and served in wars from Korea onwards. Much of the onward development of these machines depended on continued military support. A number of commercial uses were developed too: crop spraying, aerial surveys and photography, air ambulances, etc.

Although Piasecki and Hiller developed small helicopters for personal use (like an automobile), they proved to be unaffordable for the vast majority of people. Helicopter "airlines" flourished (with Federal subsidies) in the 1960's, but fizzeled out about 10 years later due to high costs and accidents.

_Whirlybirds_ is long (almost 500 pages), but is well-written and easy to read. (It is helpful to have a nodding familiarity with aviation vocabulary such as "roll", "pitch", "yaw", etc.) I recommend this book for anyone interested in helicopters or aviation history.

This is a masterpiece on the four US helicopter pioneers -- Sikorsky, Bell (Arthur Young), Piasecki, and Stanley Hiller. Only faults to the book are (1) that it primarily focuses on the pioneers (hence the title), not the machines, and (2) he has nothing at all good to say about Hughes helicopters. In fact, it's pretty well damning. I think it should've been a little more objective. Also doesn't cover Charlie Kaman, who was also one of the early pioneers and still active today.

Excellent! a great book

Whirlybirds is very well written account of the early history of the helicopter, and its pioneers. Filling a long needed gap in aviation history, this book tells how four men looked into the future of vertical flight, and turned it into a reality. This book is a must have. Jay Hendrickson

Anyone who is familiar with the Who Was Series would sincerely appreciate this text. This series provides biographies on dozens of famous people, but it is written for children ages 9-12. The pages include a short amount of text and usually a sketch to accompany it. This is a quick read and provides accurate information; however, it is appropriate for the age group. The author definitely took into account the maturity level of the reader, which is appreciated. The character of Anne Frank is written so that the reader feels as though they would know her and can easily relate to some of her life's struggles. I am anxious for the next addition to this phenomenal series. A must for any classroom teacher!

I must say this is my favorite who's who i have ever read! i like it because it has an entry for each of the oz characters ever written about and it says a paragraph about the character then it says what book and page # it's from and, last but not least, it says the initials of the author who wrote about it. i think if you want to be a know-it-all about oz (and i mean that in a good way, i must admit)then this is the book to get. the unfortunate thing is that it is out of print, but i can assure you that you will be able to buy it used.

The above phrase was Reilly and Lee's adviertising slogan for this book when it was published in the 1950's, and it's still true today. This is one of the best books ever written about Oz, and represents a herculean effort on Jack Snow's part. It contains listings describing nearly every character who appeared in the first 39 Oz books (from "Wizard" through "Hidden Valley") and stating on which page of which book each character first appeared. It also contains brief biographical sketches of all the authors and illustrators of the first 39 Oz books and short blurbs describing the plots of those books. It is illustrated with pictures taken from all the books (except, if I remember correctly, "Wizard," since Reilly and Lee were not publishing that book at the time and did not have the rights to the Denslow illustrations). This book is simply a joy to browse through, especially since if one has not read all the books it covers it offers tantalizing hints about them...

My 12 year old son has the complete set of Wild and Wacky Totally True Bible Stories. He's had them for five years since they came out in 2000 and has a total of thirteen Wild & Wacky CD's that he treasures. He listens to one almost every night, but frequently pulls them out during the day, as well. Not only does he find them interesting and entertaining, but Mom and Dad do, too. Frank Peretti is a master story teller, comedian. You'll find yourself visualizing Bible stories in a whole new way and laughing out loud at these wonderful stories, time and time again.

My kids love Mr. Henry!!! If you want your kids to have a deeper understanding of the Bible and have a lot of fun at the same time then buy this product. This is unlike any other childrens Bible stories/education program I have ever seen. Even though my kids have heard most of these bible stories, Mr. Henry helps them to experience them. They beg to hear Mr. Henry tell them "just one more." Mr. Henry (Frank Peretti) does such an amazing job making the stories come alive. He helps the kids comprehend God's Word. I am so thankful for these audio cds.
