This guide got me through organic chem, I only wish I'd bought it earlier in the semester and I might have four-pointed the class. Great idea if you're having a hard time studying by lecture alone. Gives very simple, concise summaries of concepts with lots of examples and diagrams.

This was a great help to me as I prepared for my finals. The last few pages are especially helpful in summerizing the numerous reactions in organic chemistry. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a concise review before a test.

This book simplifies the many aspects covered in "Fessenden & Fessenden" book, and the rxn's at the end are extremely helpful to study for exams. Unfortunately, this book doesn't really get into nucleic acids, but it does a great job covering all functional groups synthesis & rxns! A key book for reference as well as explanations regarding intermediates for rxns. A+

Yes, this was a hilarious book. I grew up in Vermont, and while I'm a little young to get all of the references I got enough of them to be thoroughly amused by the story. Anyone with "Vermont Pride" is likely to get a kick out of this book.

In "The Paradox of Tarheel Politics", veteran reporter Rob Christensen, of the Raleigh News and Observer, provides a stellar addition to the pantheon of North Carolina political works.

This book is a must read for any politician, journalist, activist, observer or just plain interested party. Christensen deserves a medal for making the subject matter approachable to the layman. As an historical work, the book ranks among the most active and engaging stories in recent memory.

Perhaps a testament to the editors Christensen has had in his career, the prose is engaging and full of energy. There is hardly a weak spot in the entire book. Whether the reader is on vacation with hours on end or a casual nighttime bookworm reading a few pages a night, "The Paradox of Tarheel Politics" is sure to capture and hold their attention.

Western Science Mind Meets Eastern Soul Mind...by a Master!!

A great read for anyone who wants to know/vailidate "being in the world but not of the world." Merrell-Wolff writes of his experience in a very feeling and direct way. No trite scientific disection of the "other life," but a shared experience that grant's the direct experience to the reader. Moving from recounting the "Experience" to dynamic words and poetry that comes form the space of that experience, the book is a joy of acknowledgement that this can and should be felt by all. Franklin talks of his struggle to sustain the barage of energy from his "excursions" into the city... the trouble is, he speaks of the late 1930's not the late 1990's; which has all the more to overwhelm one. Having been introduced to Merrell-Wolff from John C. Lilly (the dolphin doctor... some call him;) who writes the introduction to the Julian Press edition; it is refreshing to have another excellent spokesperson to the inner journey. A great book on the journey that more should tread... or at least read of others travel.

The last reviewer mentioned another book written by FMW called "Philosophy of Consciousness Without an Object," which he states is out of print. Both books are worthwhile, since they refer to separate awakenings. Pathways refers to an earlier awakening and Philosophy to a later one which goes beyond the discoveries made in the earlier. In Philosophy the two stages are described something like (it's been awhile since I read these) 1) the awakening of the subjective pole of subject-object consciousness; and 2) the transcending of subject-object duality altogether. If you are interested in both, be aware that another book, titled "Franklin Merrell-Wolff's Experience and Philosophy: A Personal Record of Transformation and a Discussion of Transcendental Consciousness" (also available at Amazon.com) contains both Pathways and Philosophy. So, rather than buy Pathways, or search around for a secondhand copy of Philosophy, you might want to buy the combined version.

This book is the personal record of the author's transformation of consciousness. The author is very well versed in both western and eastern philosophy, so he was able to put his experience into those frameworks. Frankly, this is the most important book I have ever read. I highly recommend it. I've re-read it several times. He also wrote "Philosophy of Consciousness Without an Object", which is unfortunately out of print.

The author has a sophisticated vocabulary, so read it with a dictionary by your side. It's not an easy read.

A Fantastic Addition to Liturgical Theology

As a "regular joe"...I'm not a scholar on liturgical theology...who reads a lot of literature on liturgy, I found this to be absolutely without qualification the best book for history of the liturgy set in a meaningful context for modern times. It is extremely well-written, with little or no technical "jargon", so that it's accessible to anyone interested in good liturgy. It's also adequately detailed, with neither too much or too little information in any area. My favorite aspect of it is the way Senn groups the chapters in sensible, practical clusters.

Overall, I found this book both enlightening and thought-provoking.

This is the kind of work in liturgical studies that I've been waiting for... someone bold enough to get the social historians and the liturgical scholars talking to each other, if only by bringing their contributions in their own fields together in a single volume. While no one should argue that this groundbreaking volume is "definitive" in the sense of "the last word" on the topics it addresses, it does define some new pathways into exploring not simply the texts, but the contexts and the impacts of Christian liturgical life on the cultures that both shaped and were shaped by it. And it will undoubtedly open many more pathways for students and scholars who will now be able to engage this relatively unexplored territory with greater confidence and vision.

This fable is common throughout Ethiopia, Eritrea and surrounding countries and the author choose this Ethiopian version to write.

The wonderful images along with simple beautiful text which includes some Ethiopian words is just lovely.

It tells the story of a orphan girl Tshai, her selfless gift to the countries ruler and the darstadly thinking of the wicked Jib. The telling is enhanced by the legend of Ethiopian pronounciations and all round is a lovely addition your library if like me you have an Ethiopian child in your home.

This book is a perfect illustration on what a pure gift a child is and how innocent a child's heart can be. It teaches a few good life lessons and also incorporates a small amount of language from Ethiopia. We bought this book to introduce Ethiopia into our family for our small children while we wait to adopt a child from Ethiopia. This book is a must have for any child regardless of color, it is just a simple yet valuable story.

The above quoted "Publishers Weekly" nails the critique for this book. It is enchanting and the artwork is dazzling. It is great to be able to offer your child an exposure to tales from other parts of the world, even if otherwise you would not have any connection to Ethiopia. It's fun to look the country up in an atlas with your child. My 4 year-old likes this book a lot. You won't regret it. It's not your everyday fare.

For we fans who have waited PATIENTLY for this day, it has FINALLY arrived! The longest-running sci-fi series in the WORLD is back in print...IN ENGLISH!
Fan Pro picked a great point in the PR story arc to re-introduce PR to a new generation of readers.
The story reminds me a bit of Harlan Ellison's 'Phoenix without Ashes', the novel that the 1973 TV series 'The Starlost' was loosely based.
The crew of a mining ship is surrepticiously transporting the leader of the Solar Imperium, Perry Rhodan, into the territory of the Akons, in hopes of forging new alliances. They discover a generation ship launched over 10,000 years ago, traveling with a 'cloak', only after one of the mothership's mining pods disappears. What they find on-board is only the beginning of this small saga within the grand scheme of the Rhodan Universe, now at 2422 (Jan 2008) issues and going strong!
The translator did a fanatastic job porting it from the native German and the editors earned their pay.
PLEASE DON'T STOP!!!

Whether you're already a fan of the "Perry Rhodan" science fiction series from its U.S. edition in the 1970's or whether you've never heard of "Perry Rhodan" but enjoy a good space adventure story, buy this book! It is the first of a six-part series called "Lemuria" and features both a vision of humankind's future in space while also revealing ancient secrets about Earth's past. As a long-time fan, I generally read the Perry Rhodan series in its German original and am just thrilled that it's finally back in the U.S.

The author of this book is Edward Granville Browne, who recorded his first account of Constitutional Revolution in Iran, plus he provided researched account on Constitutional Revolution in Iran. Interestingly, he discussed how UK and Russia divided Iran in two spheres and causing unrest in Iran. Thus, Iran did not have an opportunity to have political maturity.

This book attempts to reconstruct the events and upheavels during the persian constitutional revolution. The author shows an intimate knowledge of his subject, having spent time in Iran previously. Amanat does a magnificant job in introducing the unknown part of Iranian politics, with accurate observations and conclusions.

Edward G. Browne, the most famous British scholar of Iranian studies, for whom a street adjacent to Tehran University is named, has made an enormous contribution to Iranian studies in this and his other works. Professor Brown, whose other works span Iranian literature, culture, sociology and history, was a great friend to those who sought to advance the cause of liberalism and the rule of law in Iran.

This work is particularly valuable, as it is the only first-hand English language study of the Iranian Constitutional Revolution. It is particularly valuable for those readers unable to access works in Farsi, such as Ahmad Kasravi's seminal work on the Constitutional Revolution.

In this work, Brown vividly portrays the machinations of the British, Russian, and Iranian players in the constitutional revolution. One can sense the joy and agony in Browne's work as he describes the initial victory of the constitutionalists, and their eventual defeat at the hands of foreign agents and Iranian traitors.

Amanat's introduction is also valuable for the historical and biographical context it provides. Amanat, a scholar at Yale, has established his position as one the most prominent authors of Iranian history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Those who enjoy this work, may care to also consider Shuster's work "The Strangling of Persia", also in the Persia observed series.

As the various reviews point out this book is a blaze of color. Excellently photographed and excellently printed this volume gives a good impression of how beautiful petrified wood can be. This work is perfectly suited as a coffee table book.

As a wood anatomist I cannot help feeling that an even more beautiful book could be produced by shifting the focus to anatomy: when magnified these woods would look even better. I guess a palaeobotanist would agree with me that this would make for, from a scientific point of view, a more usable and valuable book.

Nevertheless this is a magnificent piece of work: there are some quite stunning pictures in here.

The best photographic presentation of petrified wood I have every seen. Frank Daniels' love of the subject can be seen in his work as laid out between the covers of this superb book. I totally enjoy showing non palaeontologically minded people this book when they visit. If a person is looking for a photographic presentation of petrified wood, then this would have to be the book. I heartily recommend it. Congratulations Frank on a terrific book.

Iy you are a layman, you will certainly ask whether "rock like " items like these can be so pretty. When you read on and understand that nature is actually the artist behind them, then you will start to appreciate that their brilliant color, the pretty pattern as well as the variety of what used to be living trees in this planet millions of years ago are not any less beautiful than the common gems and precious stones which we are much more familiar with. The excellent photos will certainly tempt one to read the book again and again . The only regret is perhaps the lack of more publications on these gems, despite a second and equally attractive book by the same author.

The third edition of The Phillies Encyclopedia was released prior to the 2004 season. The original version was released in 1983, and a second edition was printed in 1993. Anything you've ever wanted to know about the Phillies is all here from their inaugural year of 1883 through the end of the Veterans Stadium era in 2003. A summary of every season is included, bios of over 200 players, every manager, owner, and club president. Rare facts, stories, you name it, it's here.

If you are a diehard Phillies fan, this is for you. If you are a casual Phillies fan, and would like to learn more of the team's history, this is a great place to start. If you are a fan of baseball history in general, I highly recommend The Phillies Encyclopedia.

I can't wait until the next edition comes out!
