I throughly enjoyed this book, Mr. Hurst is an excellent storyteller. I truly was interested in how this family would get through this ordeal. I felt that I could really relate to these people and what they were feeling. He took an unusual situation and made it seem very real. Excellent! I hope there will be more to come.

There was a time years ago when a trip to the book store was a trip into a different world. Tarzan swung from the vines, John Carter battled Martians, Conan fought evil tyrants and Sherlock Holmes solved every mystery. Pulp fiction was King, the high dollar critics despised it but the average American avidly followed the adventures of Nero Wolfe, and marvelled at the inventiveness of Doc Savage. Times change. The books we bought evolved into High Tech Thrillers, Down and Dirty Westerns and deep thought full books that wanted to teach us something as well as entertain us. Please, dont misunderstand me. I love the High Tech thrillers by Clancy, Rosenberg, Cussler and others. I devour the westerns of Johnstone, Compton, Cotton and L'Amour. As well as the deep books by Potock, Jeffrey Archer and others.

As much as I love the new style of books, there are times that I miss the simpler style of the Pulp writers. I will go back and re-read one of the old Sherlock Holmes, Conan the Barbarian, Tarzan or Lone Ranger books just to once more exist in that "Black and White" world. A world where the good guys were always good, always did the right thing and the bad guys were just evil bullies they were not motivated by some insane Imman in a Mosque somewhere in the Middle East.

Recently I ran across a new book by a new writer that recaptured that simpler style of the Pulp books. A rousing adventure set in a small East Texas town much like the one I live in. The main characters were people that I could identify with, my neighbors and my relatives. A rousing story of Good vs Evil that starts out at a Thanksgiving Family Reunion. The hero of the story, Ron Hooks, is ex-Military and pushing Fifty. Just an average guy put in an extraordinary situation. The story opens at a family get together for Thanksgiving in East Texas. Odd things begin to happen as the family start to enjoy their weekend. From the initial encounter with the uninvited guests till the thrill packed ending the story grabs you by the throat and forces you to pay attention.

The writer paints a vivid and believable picture of the main characters and the "Uninvited Guests". The plot is tight, easily followed and worth the roller coaster ride it will take you on. I seldom recommend first books by any writer because the fact is they are still learning the trade but I STRONGLY suggest you take a chance on this book and this writer

You should read this!

Frank Bosworth excels at not only being funny but managing to convey a thoughtful undercurrent. Most humorous writers provide laughs, then switch to serious mode for the "lesson" while Bosworth has the reader shifting between chuckling and howling from beginning to end, but still sends the reader away, pondering the size of the role chance plays in our lives.

Bosworth has a unique and delightful way of presenting the reader
with doses of the wit and wisdom of moments from
everyday life that we often miss while looking backwrd or forward or simply away; in so doing he touches our hearts, opens out eyes and sometimes makes us shed a long awaited tear inside a good hard laugh.!

Loved this entertainingly humorous story of personal success and failure where the author's fate is determined, as is the norm, not by his athletic capabilities, determination or personality, but by another's success or failure. We can all relate to this story as we all wait for our 15 minutes of fame!
Is a must read!!

One of the most interesting books I have read. Trooper Frank Jopling is an excellent writer and his diaries keep you interested from the first word. It is little wonder he impressed so many people with his writings.
Along with brilliant editing and research, Brendon O'Carroll has captured one persons story into a timeless masterpiece.

This would have to be one of the most insightfull books on the LRDG that I have ever read.Having meet and talked with several KIWI LRDG veterans, this book truly reflects what daily life in the LRDG was like. Frank Joplings diaries are packed with the "every day" happenings that this elite group of humble heroes took as "just doing their bit"as they blazed their way into history and legand. This book is one of the best. Many of the photographs have never been published before, Do not miss out, you will regret it forever.

The title initially didn't mean much to me, but when I saw reference to the LRDG, a bell rang. Having served in the Western Desert of Egypt in WW2, I knew that I had to read this book. I did not know any of the LRDG members but I was very familiar with their existance. As with all Special Forces these men had a mission, and as with all special missions, exceptional men were called for... Their mission meant existance very different than todays desert forces face. There were no cell phones, no computers, limited communications, very little water and certainly no Perrier !! Anyone interested in special missions carried out by either side should absolutely not pass this one up. Trooper Jopling's diaries are incredible and the photographs are superb. Author O'Carroll deserves a medal for this one !

A wonderful collection of stories that you'll dip into over and over. Russell's social and political concerns (freedom, equality, social justice) are combined with clever, witty stories that use the SF genre without getting bogged down in science.

Full-page color photos of Frank Moore's paintings are especially strong in Between Life And Death: images of nature drawn from a folk art influence. From cameos of large insects and flowers and diminutive humans to folk art cards and a closeup of book titles, this is filled with images of species and interactions between objects and man.

This beautiful book is a lovely elegy to an artist who, sadly, we lost to AIDS earlier this year. Though the pages don't quite do justice to the art itself, you can see the pieces themselves, for a short time only, at Buffalo's Albright-Knox Museum through the spring of 2003. If you can't experience the art, this sumptuously produced book, using his farm in western New York as an inspiration, is nearly as good. My prediction is that Frank Moore's star will be in the ascendant for many years to come. Though he is no longer with us, his talent and joy of surprise will delight us for many years to come. And isn't that what art's about after all?

I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about the current art scene, but I was not familiar with Frank Moore's amazing work. I just came from DisneyWorld with my parents and happily discovered a show at the Orlando Art Museum of these beautiful and haunting images. Though on first glance these paintings and drawings seem direct and quite simple, it becomes obvious upon closer inspection that they were actually highly planned and worked out. The balance between science, medicine, and nature itself is beautifully maintained and the introduction of death metaphors seems quite appropriate given the state of our current health-care system. I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of this supremely gifted artist but glad to have stumbled upon this beautifully done work and book about it.

this book teaches you the foundational truths with regards to finances. It's doesn't water the Bible down, nor does it make financial provision an impossible thing, but the authors chart your through and in the end you're left with principles that are rooted in the Word of God and relevant to our lives. I was thoroughly encouraged by the book. This book is not a happy-go-lucky, nauseating, comb-over of how to deal with finances, but there is meat in this book. This meat will cause you to read and re-read this book. This is a book that I'll keep for years to come

Will the word "fantastic" suffice as a review? Probably not, but it certainly describes this huge resource produced by pastor and leadership guru Frank Damazio. In this day and age of rampant materialism and self-serving doctrines that present God the Father as some divine sugar-daddy, Releasing Financial Provision is a welcomed relief.

The book is divided into seven "keys" for opening the heavens and obtaining the favor of God in your personal and business life. Each key is expounded upon by 20 or so biblical principles concerning finances. Really, it reads like a daily devotional: Each principle includes specific verses of scripture and a short teaching on the subject that is always practical and often pleasantly insightful. In addition to the 98 or so principles expounded upon throughout the book, there are at least 100 pages of scripture references on anything and everything financial and an excellent bibliography of printed and electronic financial resources.

This book is a must-have for anyone who's serious about understanding and applying a Biblical approach to finances.

BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES FOR RELEASING FINANCIAL PROVISION! is awesome. The first book I have ever seen that gives a balanced and accurate message on GOD's plan for financial peace, wholeness and soundness in the lives of believers. What I found refreshing is that it makes no promises of quick fixes or get rich quick schemes and methods but instead page by page offers an outstanding, inspiring and life changing method on how to receive GOD's favor in both your personal and professional finances. You will glean insight, wisdom, truth and inspiration for whatever you may be facing financially. Infused with illustrations, Scripture and commentary, you will find yourself studying this book every chance you get.

Grab a copy for yourself, family and friends (or) even start a program with it at your church or place of business. Money is central to our existence and BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES FOR RELEASING FINANCIAL PROVISION is just the book you need to receive financial freedom and financial peace the right way-God's way!

God bless you and happy reading!

This book is extremely enjoyable and informative. Not only did I love seeing the history of Big Moose Lake through the wonderful collection of vintage picture post cards, but I couldn't resist comparing each picture to the corresponding snapshots I've taken over the years! It is truly amazing how little has changed geographically in this incredibly scenic area of New York State. Scheffler and Carey, however, also do a great job showing the reader how social factors -- like fashion and entertainment -- have changed in the Adirondacks in the past 100 years. A wonderful tour of photographs that transport the reader around the lake and through time.

This book will be near and dear to anyone who has visited Big Moose Lake or the Adirondacks.

For the ones who have visited the region before, the book provides a trip back in time and describes how the popular vacation spot got it's start. The best thing about the book and the lake is that not many things have changed since the early 1900's. When reading or just looking at the pictures, travelers are able to take a quick trip around the lake they love whenever they please.

This is a fascinating look at the history and beauty of the wonderfully remote Big Moose Lake in the Adirondacks. The site of many historic great camps, a couple of which are still open for accomodations, the lake is also the site of the Gilette - Brown murder, the first "trial of the century" of the 1900's. This book even lists the history of each parcel of property on the lake. Many historic photographs show Big Moose in all its glory.

Big Moose Lake In The Adirondacks: The Story Of The Lake, The Land, And The People is a local history project under the editorship of Jane Barlow and authorized by the Big Moose Lake History Project Committee. It tells the true story of the growth of the lakeside community that became famous because of the incident that inspired Theodore Dreiser's "An American Tragedy." Beginning in the 1870's, and following how people's lives changed over the course of 100 years, Big Moose Lake In The Adirondacks uses both extensive, well-documented detail and black-and-white photographs to paint a revealing picture of humble daily life across the span of a century.

Swartz and friends provide a thoughtful and extensive review of the history, methods, and applications of biofeedback practice. Primarily intended for health professionals, the book covers a variety of disorders/medical conditions that can be treated by biofeedback, and provides detailed instructions as to how to treat each disorder. Schwartz has been an integral figure in the development of professional standards for biofeedback practice as well, and the book also addresses this topic, as well as ethic issues. Has proven to be extremely helpful in training and practice. Well written.

The Bible of non-EEG Biofeedback; a practitioner must-have

Review Date: 2000-11-02
If you are going to get into biofeedback as a practitioner you really must have this book. It provides a wonderfully comprehensive, detailed picture of a wide range of biofeedback applications, modalities, issues and techniques. Edited and partially written by Mark Schwartz, founder of the Mayo Clinic Biofeedback program, and Frank Andrasik, both past presidents of AAPB (Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback,) the book offers an encyclopedic amount of information on the most frequently used forms of non-EEG biofeedback. It only has one chapter on EEG biofeedback-- though that one, by Joel Lubar, is an excellent. Even practitioners getting into work which focusses primarily on EEG should buy this book and include in their library, since it offers valuable perspectives on working with the kinds of clients/patients likely to be encountered.

if you are getting into a practice, working with headache, stress disorder, behavioral medicine, etc. then this book should be on your bookshelf.

Frankly, being a bit of a bibliomaniac, I have at least 40 different biofeedback books-- one of the largest libraries on the subject anywhere. I've also co-edited two books on biofeedback myself (published in Russia.) As a biofeedback practitioner since 1972, a biofeedback product inventor, software developer international meeting organizer and entrepreneur, I have recommended the book to hundreds of people and have probably sold, over the years, through my business, at least 300 copies. I know that at least three or four years ago, before the release of the 2nd edition, I heard that over 12,000 copies had been sold. That's pretty amazing for a book of this sort.

other good books on biofeedback include: Basmajian, Fuller-Von Bozzay, and for EEG biofeedback: Wise, Evans & Abarbanel

Quite unlike any other work I've read based on the happenings during early WW2. The detail was particuarly impressive and the reader will absorb an enormous amount of historical fact in an easily assimilated way without appearing to do so. The persona and life of the main character, the well brought up and slightly naive, unworldly young fighter pilot from a priveleged background, is particularly well drawn and totally beleivable. There are one or two sub plots and beautifully set up characters that add enormous interest. The contrast between the hastily snatched social breaks and the chronicles of the death and destruction whilst flying against the enemy reflects no doubt exactly how it was and again is particularly well drawn and sensitively written. The lifetime of the average frontline fighter pilot at the time being measured in months at best. A lot of meticulous research has been done for sure by Frank Barnard to produce a great read that is hard to put down once started. I look forward to his next one, as he must go will surely go from strength to strength.

"Blue Man Falling" by Frank Barnard , is a fascinating glimpse into the fragile, often bizarre days of the "Phony War", that "wishful thinking" period of WW II when few believed the Nazis would actually invade France. Accordingly, one day we find an RAF Hurricane pilot engaging in a dogfight with his German counterpart and the next we see him enjoying a drink in a Parisian cafe. This jarring juxtaposition of moods illustrates all too well the surrealistic nature of that period. Mr. Barnard has a great ability to capture a "sense of place" whether he's describing a French farmhouse, a British barrack, or the Hotel Crillon. He also portrays convincingly the comaraderie and the rivalry among the "blue men", as well as their romances. I found this to be a very readable and well written book about a period not widely understood.

Impressive debut

Review Date: 2006-03-10
Blue Man Falling deserves to be a great success. Frank Barnard has managed to combine a gripping adventure story of Hurricane fighter pilots with a moving and totally convincing account of the tragedy and drama of the phony war. The book gradually builds pace through the skillful use of flashbacks and scenes which contrast the relative calm of pre-occupation Paris with the turmoil of the German advance. The author clearly shares in the adrenalin rush of an aerial dogfight, but equally clearly recognizes the pain and horror experienced by combatants and civilians on either side of any conflict.

After reading Blue Man Falling, you will not only have enjoyed a hugely entertaining story; you will have learnt more about the early days of World War II (and probably the Spanish Civil War, too), and very likely wondered how you yourself would have acted in the heat of battle.
