Enligtening Book on Padre PioReview Date: 2007-06-23

My Dad Would Have Been ProudReview Date: 2005-02-24
Dad always wanted to publish a book about his lifetime friendship with this holy man who is now a saint. Dad passed away without doing so, but some of his personal notes were used by Mr. Rega in this book... as were letters that he wrote to others concerning Padre Pio. As my mother and entire family is, dad would have been very pleased with Mr. Rega's book.
This is not merely a manuscript. It is an owner's manual for a soul. The stories within are enlightening, fascinating, encouraging and expertly handled by Mr. Rega's unique gift as a talented author. Not only is it well written, the content makes it almost impossible to put down before finishing.
This book is a "must" for anyone interested in Padre Pio.
Highly, highly recommended!
The Padre Pio Book I Have Been Waiting For!Review Date: 2004-12-30
This is an unusual Pio book, putting the American and GI part of the Padre Pio story all together so we don't have to chase everywhere for the puzzle pieces to make the grand tapestry. The metaphor and meaning of this story is that we must search for Jesus, look for Our Savior, climb mountains, if necessary, to find him in ourselves.
And oh yes, that possible secret mission of the GIs, for which it seems they were a great instrument in a plan of God we can only guess at? To carry back Saint Pio to this land of faith--"the good America!" I loved this book!

A great read.Review Date: 2008-08-12
Quick read, entertaining first collection...Review Date: 2008-08-10
As for the stories they play off of the landscape and folklore of the area and bring these to life.
The books title story, is a very funny and an inventive take on the Bigfoot legend.
The author's writing style moves along quickly with dialogue between the characters. This makes for a quick read. However, in some cases like the Dog Man of Poverty Flats, I felt it went a little too quickly.
The only detractions of the book was the formatting of the paragraph style. In my copy it seemed a little confusing. Also the cover art is a great concept but bad execution. It gets the point across though.
This is the author's first book and hopefully not his last.
enjoy.

Used by importers/exporters, they define the roles, responsibilities and obligations of buyers/sellers in transactions involving the international movements of goods and help to eliminate misunderstandings as to the term of trade by which a particular transaction is being conducted. They help define the point at which the responsibilities, risks and obligations of the seller end and begin for the buyer and the required documents that must be generated for official and commercial purposes.
As some of the Incoterms, when defined, may be in conflict with similar terms of sale (such as EX Works, FOB) as used for domestic business and found in the official United States legal code - the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), the author thoroughly explains the difference and highlights the adjustments needed when considering similar Incoterms for international transactions.
The book clearly describes the meaning of each Incoterm, explains the buyer-seller responsibilities under each term and illustrates what a typical pro-forma invoice would reflect on a proposed export transaction. With each Incoterm described, it also offers an American perspective on best practices and recommendations from the author's numerous years of trade experience and his enviable position as the US delegate on the ICC drafting committee that revised the terms that resulted in Incoterms 2000.
Of particular interest especially to inexperienced American exporters, the author offers some very important caveats covering such areas as port customs, insurance considerations, potential confusions in regards to the difference between shipment and delivery terms, the use of appropriate terms that best fit particular transactions, compliance with US Export Control and Incoterm limitations. Although published in 1999, this edition is still up-to-date as the subject matter it addresses is still current as of the date of this review in 2007. Readers may, however, be mindful that the reference made in the publication to the Uniform Customs and Practices for Documentary Credit (UCP500) - the rules that govern letters of credit transactions - will be replaced by a revised set of rules (UCP600) on July 1, 2007.
Since the new UCP600 rules no longer provide for 'revocable' credits, it will no longer be necessary to stipulate in the payment term section of the pro-forma invoice that the letter of credit should be 'irrevocable' as reflected in those relevant sections in Incoterms for Americans. A minor editorial detail of omitting the currency in which costs are reflected in pro-forma invoices on pages 103, 104 and 110 should be French Francs, US Dollars and US Dollars respectively. The author would agree that such seemingly insignificant details of omission would create a discrepancy, delaying payment, in an invoice presented to a nominated bank for a letter of credit transaction.
As one with over 25 years of foreign trade experience, I would highly recommend this well written volume as a desk reference guide for any American foreign trader who desires a working knowledge, understanding and application of Incoterms 2000.
Technical topic made easy to understandReview Date: 2001-03-01
The most valuable feature is the ending section of each chapter, entitled "American Perspective." It discusses how Americans should or should not use this particular term, or at least be aware of any caution flags.
Incoterms for Americans is a valuable commentary on an important topic.
Excellent book for people in this fieldReview Date: 2007-01-19
Considering the fact that this book is more than half the price of the ICC book and tailored to Americans, I highly recommend it!

"Investing by the Numbers"
Jarrod W. Wilcox, Ph.D., CFAPublished by Frank J. Fabozzi Associates © 1999 Jarrod Wilcox, Director of Currency and Overseas Products at PanAgora Asset Management, wrote this guide to quantitative investing over a 14 month period, using most of his evenings and weekends to complete this illuminating work. The underlying theme throughout is "Be scientific, but don't believe in science for the purpose of investing." He warns quantitative investors against making easily avoidable mistakes, which he describes through witty narration and an assemblage of easy to follow charts and tables. Formulas are included for those who wish to delve into the mathematics, but in general these are easy to follow and the reader does not have to be a mathematician to understand the author's train of thought. This book manages to show the humorous side of quantitative investing and I suspect the more investment experience the reader has, the more he or she will laugh. He explains the ins and outs of indexing, comparing the practice to betting on past winners, which is a form of momentum investing that is destabilizing to markets. The fascinating issue of "learning taking place in the markets" is covered in detail, an important concept to fundamental analysts as well as those who are quantitatively oriented. Of course this leads to the interesting question of "What is the half-life of private science?" And the observation that successful active management can never be accepted science because destructive imitation by others will soon take away whatever performance advantages one initially had. The author challenges so much of what is current investment thought, subjecting commonly accepted ideas to his rigorous analysis and leaving the reader a more knowledgeable investor for having read this excellent book. I highly recommend this book to professional investors, it will, in the author's words, "change your life. END
Good but hard work and technicalReview Date: 2002-02-28
It exposes all the complexities and real life issues. It is full of insights and ideas.
Very hard work but worth it.
Superb blend of theory and practiceReview Date: 2002-03-03
It will suit people who are comfortable with some math. It is dense and requires concentration to read and understand. Overall the approach is quantitive, although he follows wherever that leads, e.g. into some technical things.
What I like is the combination of theory and practical experience and the way both add value to the other.
The book is worth it for the discussions about market structures and dynamics alone. Full of insight and ideas.
