This is a replacement of a LP i bought in the in the 1950's when still a student at Law School with a good grounding in Latin and all things Roman.

The "Rinse the blood off my toga" sketch is after all these years still a classic and brought tears to my eyes on listening to it now as the poor LP I owned disappeared many years ago.

Indeed all the sketches on the disc are all gems and should be compulsory listening for all students of literature and classic history!

Ah, the good old days. There was a day when humor did not have to be filthy, with expletives filling the dialogue. Wayne and Shuster wrote and performed intelligent, literate comedy. The skits on this CD were all written for and performed on radio

My favorite skit from this CD is "Shakespearean Baseball". I am amazed by how many lines from several Shakespeare plays are so artfully worked into this skit.

For the actors out there, we can learn alot about ensemble acting from these guys. Their timing is incredibly crisp, and they really react to one another. They each create several characters in the skits, and must create these characters only through the voice. These are very talented men, who are obviously comfortable working with one another. Like Lewis and Martin, Burns and Allen, Abbott and Costello (to name a few), they are a magical duo.

Highly recommended.

Having gone through the sixties (and subsequent) decades, one of my favorite comedy teams was - and still is - "Firesign Theater". Wayne and Shuster's brand of zany plays is very much like theirs.

This album contains the very best routines that Wayne and Shuster did. Having been a fan on William Shakespear for as long as I can remember, and a baseball fan for just as long, I mainly bought this album for "Shakespearean Baseball", which presents a baseball game as The Bard might have in one of his plays. Anyone who is remotely familiar with Shakespear's plays will find "Shakespearean Baseball" riotously funny.

Also worth hearing is their version of the investigation into the murder of Julius Ceaser, told ala "Dragnet".

Worth noting is the conspicuous lack of profanity, which totally ruins much of today's comedy routines. Wayne and Shuster realized that being funny does not depend on how many times you use "the F-word", or use Jesus Christ's name as an invective.

I highly recommend this album.

Brought Me Back 1980s Teen Memories

I was one of those 1980s teenagers who watched MTV when it used to play music videos 24 hours daily, and this book has a lot of the music artists who performed on MTV, including the song titles in the book. It even has a picture of Ronald Reagan, the Rubik's Cube, and other 1980s nostalgia that I remember so well. Oh yeah, it also made me remember seeing Courtney Cox on that Bruce Springsteen music video doing that swinging dance on his stage when I read about Bruce in this book...also that old Madonna look complete with the Boy Toy belt and wedding dress. :) If you want to remember the great music artists of the 1980s, their songs, and the memories, get this book!

Fun & Nostalgic Trip Back to the '80s

Review Date: 2003-01-04
"Who Can It Be Now?," named after the Men at Work song, is just over 200 pages of music and pop culture trivia taken from the '80s. Most of the book is devoted to just one-liners (not the entire song), with the lyric on one side of the page and the song title, band/artist, and bits of trivia on the opposite side. Some of the sections in the book feature one-hit wonders (like Kajagoogoo {"Too Shy"} and Toni Basil {"Mickey"}), actors-turned-singers (like Patrick Swayze {"She's Like the Wind" in 'Dirty Dancing'} and Rick Springfield), as well as bits of movie, TV, and celebrity trivia, but only if it pertains to a certain '80s song. There are also lots of black-and-white photos (pretty much on every page) of singers/performers/actors, like Debbie (Deborah now) Gibson, Michael and Janet Jackson, Mr. T, Weird Al, and the Brat Pack, just to name a few.

Despite some of the catty remarks and photo alterations (see Mary Lou Retton and Lionel Richie), this book will certainly make you laugh and reminisce if you're a child of the '80s. It's hard to digest all of the info in this book in one sitting (flipping back and forth between the lyrics and answers does lose its appeal after awhile), but halfway into it, you'll be dusting off your old CDs/cassettes/vinyls and playing them while reading this book. The only gripe I have is that there's no index or table of contents to find certain pages quicker; other than that, "Who Can It Be Now?" is a fun and nostalgic trip back to the '80s. Worth reading if you're an '80s fanatic like I am.

A well-worth trip back to the 80's.

If my review title makes you scratch your head and say to yourself, "hmmm, where do I know that from?", you should really buy this book. (It's from Styx.) Anyway, this book is a little tongue in cheek, obviously, but it does more than just make fun of Tommy Tutone, Bananarama, The Human League, songs like 867-5309 Jenny, etc. It has dozens of little quizzes, where you see the lines from songs on one page, and then when you flip to the next page you find out the names of the groups that sang them. Interspersed throughout the book are tons of little articles (blurbs, really) about various groups, which tell you, in all likelihood, more than any human would ever want to know about, say, Spandau Ballet. But it's still a good book. I recommend the living daylights out of this one, it's hilarious, especially at parties.

I checked it out at the library to get a better understanding of the WiFi technologies and how they can be deployed. As a new marketing executive for a WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider), I found the information easy to comprehend with enough depth to allow a non-technical person like myself to actively participate in highly-technical meetings. I immediately added it to my Christmas wish list.

I purchased this book for a good in-depth overview on the 802.11x protocol. It went above and beyond my expectations. Clearly explained topics and well written chapters come together for one of the best technical books I have read to date. Excellent coverage of the RF properties of 802.11x.Covers all the areas one must consider if building a WLAN, WWAN, or WMAN. This book really opened my eyes to the potential of wi-fi and its applications, I especially appreciated the authors inclusion of various economic aspects in the book. i.e potential for profit in WISP industry, and cost/efficiency analysis of wired VS. wireless networks.

It definitely earns its five stars

I recently bought this book after I borrowed it from my local library. I tried to find it a second time, and it's always checked-out in all four branches of our library system. The call number is 004.678 OHR. Out of all the 802.11 books, this is one that is the most packed with the real information you need to install an 802.11 network - antenna theory, how to do site surveys, how networks connect together, how to do an as-built. The book also describes how to debunk and overcome the perceived barriers that keep people from using wireless - security, interference, regulatory issues... If I was to recommend one single book on 802.11 to anyone, this would be the one. It definitely earns its five stars.

As the author of two books regarding National Board Certification, I read with interest this author's work on accomplished teaching. I found the content not only helpful, but well-researched and highly applicable to any instructor seeking to pursue excellence in classroom teaching.

Many such books are often pedantic tomes that offer little research, and even less practical usefulness. Not so this one. The author(s) have done their homework. Their bibliography is a 'who's who' of noted researchers in this field, and I cannot imagine any teacher--even one not pursing NBPTS certification--not picking up a wealth of helpful vitae from reading this book.

This work should be required reading in every university education program. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I got started on my portfolio rather late (I do work best under pressure) and was stunned to pass in my first round (EA Science). This book clearly helped. It is full of powerful guides and lots of tools to use in preparing lessons as well as preparing the entries. I used the NBPTS Workbook by Mack-Kirschner first to get started then used this one while I drafted out my portfolio. I returned to the Workbook as I was refining my entries. Both were important. I did not find the CD particularly useful, as it mostly provided un-editable copies of the forms in the book. I used the first edition, which was published in 2004.

As a Candidate Support Provider, I have found "Accomplished Teaching" to be the most comprehensive and user-friendly book available to National Board Certification candidates. "Accomplished Teaching" takes the NBPTS standards and portfolio instructions and breaks them into meaningful and manageable chunks for teachers. Completing the National Board Certification process is a rigorous process and teachers need a resource like "Accomplished Teaching " to guide them. This book should be required reading for anyone going through the board certification process. In fact, it should be required reading for any teacher interested in improving their teaching practice!

Throughout the book there are brief anecdotes about other teachers' practices and struggles, which is an enjoyable way to keep readers' morale up. I highly recommend this book - it's a useful tool for anyone interested in National Board Certification.

Barstow was one of the best. His is one of the few gaming strategy books that takes a serious look at betting progressions, regressions, parlays and hedge moves. His common sense approach pre-dates the work of many currently popular craps authors and appears to be the inspiration behind many of the strategies these other writers are known for.

I constantly refer to this book when comparing systems and the advice in this book has steered me away from "new" super systems that promise to win you millions and stopped me playing some of the old standbys.
It promises consistent wins and delivers on that promise .It also promises you won't win millions and that in itself makes it a rarity an honest book on and look at gambling.

For most it won't appeal to the "gamblers blood"or anyone with a short attention span as the progression/regression series require your full focus and attention and would be to much of a grind for most.

I read this several years ago and still refer to it often. Some of the mathematical conclusions may not be totally accurate, but this does not diminish its worth in the least. If you are going to endure a 4 hour flight or car ride to Vegas, this book is for you. It is a well-written, understandable guide to casino games. It does not try to sell you on a system, or on cash management. It does try to educate you on the odds of winning. It gives you the straight scoop about the games with the best odds- craps and blackjack. It also warns you about games with less favorable odds- the "Big Wheel", roulette and others. Go to the casino with a fighting chance- read Barstow's book.(as you drive through Barstow!) so, as the dealers say in Vegas, "Good Luck!"

Within every human being lies a place that can remain empty for most of our lives. It is a space that is void of clarity and loss until something fills it. Most of us try to fill it with things that never satisfy. What that space was created for, was God's love.

This book, Before the Beginning Began, gives us a pure understanding of that love. Frank Cavalli has written this "classic" in a way that every child, whether young or old, can know that he or she was created for a purpose beyond that which we can feel or think.

It is a powerful thing to know that when God threw the "Big Kiss" He thought of me.

Why allow other things to fill your childs heart when it can first be filled with the love of their Heavenly Father who created them.

After reading this book to my Grandchild, Halie, she stated that she felt as if God had kissed her cheek.

What is impressive about this book is it's appeal to any age. The book follows a firefighter during his typical 24-hour shift. All information is based on realistic circumstances - from responding to a car accident, to inspecting stores/restaurants, to teaching children fire safety, to the infamous fighting of brush fires.
Artwork is detailed but easy (and fascinating) for a two-year old to view. Lots of little details are imbedded in the pictures for older children to find and learn about firefighting.
The book is slightly wordy for a two-year old, but perfect for ages 4 and up. We summarize each page for our 2-year old son.
I am excited that this book will continue to be one of his favorites as he grows.

I had anticipated that this book would be the same as all of the others that I have read in my quest to maintain my youthful look and feel, however I was absolutely shocked. Typically the books I have read have one or two chapters that contain content that I can relate too, considering people my age (35) generally do not think about the aging process yet. I sit at a desk, but do not want to look and feel like I do. This insightful and personal way that the auther addresses not only ideas that help me in the long run, but things I can do to change me here and now. I have every belief that if I try these techniques, I will remain Forever Young. A must read for anyone that wants to LIVE life at its best.

As a young woman, not born in the United States, I am constantly reading to improve my english and the understanding of the meaning of the words. I find out that reading a novel of a love story or mystery tale can be exciting and once in a while I get what people call a page turner. But never I read a book meant to inspire or teach me health or improvement of life to be easy to read, This book by Mr. Frank is book I could not put down. I read in two days and usually take me a week or more if I do finish a book, sometimes I get bored and put books down and never finish. I am reading this book for second time. It does not preach to me but teaches me.I like that it is good for women even though written by a man. He must know alot about women.I learn several things about my skin and how to keep my body clean inside that I have already started. If he is really as old as booksay then all men if they are smart and want to keep a good women should read this book and do what it says. Especially chapter ten, Keeping your sex life young. I hope he will write more books.I also think this book should be written in Spanish because my people do not have this kind of teacher available to them.It would be big seller in Latin countries. This book is Bible for the Body and people even younger than me should read this book to learn how to stay young. I am 30 years old and wish I had this book at 20 years old. Thank you Mr. Frank

In reading Bill Frank's book, it is quite apparent that he practices what he preaches about relationships. As a married woman, I always believed that it would be easier to maintain my fitness level if I could do a program with my husband. Bill's book does exactly that. The information is not only extremely informative but is explained in such a way that we both can understand it and apply it to our own particular needs. It has even greatly improved our love life. We recommend this book to any couple who want to grow healthier, closer together and as Bill says, maximize their lives.

Good read--lots of great advice!

This book was given to me as a gift, and what a great gift it is! I didn't need convincing about the importance of keeping fit, building muscle, losing fat and other tips to keep you feeling and looking young, but found myself with renewed dedication after reading this book (and having my second child).

I found the chapters on diet and weight lifting particularly helpful. Bill Frank gives easy to follow advice on both and the book even has pictures to help the beginners in the gym. It was easy to make my own fitness and diet routine with Bill Frank's guidance.

This book is very easy to read and get through the first time--but I think you'll be going back over and over again to get great advice and knowledge about staying forever young. While you may not use every bit of information provided, I think just about everyone would find most of the book beneficial.

I would definitely recommed this book to anyone--no matter what your age.

Get this one and enjoy the ride! Reprints Miller's classic DD stories starting with issue 158. Miller's early Punisher rendition is still the best! The coloring and paper quality is excellent --- although this volume is somewhat pricey. In my opninion, Miller is one of the VERY few artists to capture the essence of Daredevil. If you're a Miller or DD diehard, this one is not to be missed.

Note: There are a few extra goodies in this volume: A Miler interview and storyboard layouts.

Before Sin City, before Dark Knight Returns, there was Frank Miller's Daredevil. In my opinion the best thing he ever did. He took a "B" rated super hero comic, that was being published bi-monthly, and turned it into one of the best selling monthly books of it's time. The ideas that Miller introduced in these stories are still resonating in the Marvel Universe today. He turned Daredevil into a super-bad ninja warrior. He made the Kingpin a major villain with unlimited underworld clout. He transformed Bullseye from a two-bit hood into the world's greatest assassin. And most noteably, he introduce Matt Murdock's ninja assassin love interest, Elektra.

These are some of my favorite comics of all time. The stories are a brilliant blend of super hero adventure and film style action and pacing. Not as light and upbeat as some of the books of the time, but not as dark and depressing as the "gritty" stuff Marvel is publishing these days. While I really liked some of the early adventures of DD by Stan Lee, Wally Wood, John Romita etc., for me Daredevil begins and ends with this legendary run. Nuff said.

I'm not gonna try to sell you on this book 'cause if you're looking at it you're already a Frank Miller fan. So... before I purchased this book I wanted to know what issues were contained therein! Above there are claimes this book contains DD issues #158 thru #191; this is only sort of true...

This most wonderful book ACTUALLY contains:

Daredevil #158 - 161 and #163 - 191 as well as the DD story from
What If...? #34!

Cool bonuses are: ALL of Franks DD trade paperback reprint covers, thumbnails and color guides for issue #190, a new introduction and an 1981 interview w/ Frank and Klaus,Frank's DD page from Fantastic Four Roast #1, AND Frank's intries from the Offcial Handbook of the Marvel Universe!

You know you want it True Beliver!

'Nuff said!

The standard by which all others are judged

In the early 80's, Frank Miller took a tired, lost superhero with low sales and proceeded to reinvent crime comics forever. Dispatching with the standard superhero sensibilty and owing a great debt to Will Eisner's The Spirit, Miller created a new milieu in which the flaws of both Daredevil and his alter ego, Matt Murdock were write large, his supporting cast was fleshed out and his gallery of villians expanded to include ninjas and gangsters.

Along the way, the typical hero-villan confrontations became wrought with far greater emotion than had been previously shown. And, yes, the violence quotient was ratcheted up exponentially.

These stories famously became the basis for the Daredevil movie but here they are in their definitive form. The hardcover collection has all of Miller's Daredevil output from the early 80s. In them, you can see the pre-cursor for Miller's own Sin City. Additionally, Miller's pencils were never better than here. Unlike his future efforts, the style does not overwhlem the substance here. His pencils and Klaus Janson's inks mesh in a manner that occurs only a few times in comics history, joining the great penciller-inker teams like Kirby/Sinnot, Swan/Anderson and Byrne/Austin.

The only minus: it does not include the final portion of Miller's DD output: the classic "Born Again" series he wrote in the mid-80s simultaneously with another little thing he was working on called "The Dark Knight Returns". However, that's carping. This is meant to show Miller's work on the monthly when he was expected to write it forever. Of course, that never happens. But, at least we'll always have this omnibus to remind us of what was...

Oh, yeah, and there's also Elektra!!!!!!!!!
