The author was Secretary of State under Benjamin Harrison. This is one of the most readable and concise diplomatic histories ever written. How often can we get a work on diplomatic history by one who also made it?

Diana Vining loves to read long, romantic novels, but one thing bothers her: the boys she knows are nothing like the dashing heroes in her books. Then one hot summer day she visits the local country club---and comes face-to-face with Anthony Gordon, the boy of her dreams.

Anthony's the lifeguard at the club pool, and to Diana he's the perfect "tall, dark, and handsome" guy. If only he could see that she wants to be more than just friends! She already has a male best buddy---her old pal Sky, whom Diana has known practically forever.

Then disaster strikes Diana's family, and her world turns upside down. She can hardly believe anything good can come of having to move and attend a new school, until she learns that Anthony goes there, too. Now she really has the chance to be his girl! But if Diana knows she has found her romantic hero, why is she still lost in her dreams? ...

Lori Aqskeland edits Children And Youth In Adoption, Orphanages And Foster Care: A Historical Handbook And Guide an outstanding and unusual survey providing the first comprehensive introductory resource on individuals and groups which have contributed to ideas of what children need temporary care. Three sections of original essays survey the practice of adoption, foster care and orphanages from colonial to modern times, using primary documents by adults and children alike to round out the historical review. A `must' for any involved in children's social work, and for college-level specialty holdings.

Wonderful Story About Dog in History
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-19
This is a terrific book for early Middle School readers. The central character is a dog named Chips. He is a military dog from World War II, and many of the events in the book are based on facts from his real life. This is a perfect combination of history, adventure, and a great old fashion "dog" story. My grandson, age nine, loved it as did my granddaughter, age eleven. They read the book first and then watched the Disney movie about the same dog called "Chips the War Dog"Chips the War Dog. In my opinion, the movie is a lot more Hollywood fantasy, and the book has more historical facts and is more in keeping with the real "Chips". This also makes a good book for Middle School book reports. The publisher's web site also has teaching guides for anyone interested([...]).

This is the Bible of Reuse, 2000 contacts and 200 subjects
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 1998-07-19
The amazingly comprehensive encyclopedia "Choose to Reuse" has something for everyone, from a family trying to creatively reuse their household waste to businesses with 1000's of tons of materials to deal with. Every subject has an indepth choice story, lists of green products, non profit experts and organisations with comprehensive contact details. I don't know how they packed so much into a book for so little money. The research must have taken ages. Very amusing in places as well. A real must for anyone interested in the fast growing area of reuse.

Rick and Greg have done it again. It seems so simple when you read it..... but the fact is that we tend to ignore the obvious. What is brilliant is that anyone can embrace the recommendations in this book and live a life that feels wonderful. And who wouldn't want a wonderful life!? The stories are inspiring and I especially loved the sections on giving and appreciation and life after 100 years. The most important message is that we all have behavioral choices and with a little dose of intention.... the results can be just what you might be looking for! Good reading......
