I bought this book for my 8-year old son and I to read together because we are both interested in the Oregon Trail. The story is all the more interesting and emotional because it's based on the true story of seven kids who lose both parents as they move west as part of a wagon train. The trials and tribulations of the family and their adoptive parents brings history alive in a way children can relate to, albeit with sadness and tragedy involved. Some very emotional children might have a hard time with the deaths and killing in the story, but the characters' ability to survive it is a great lesson in human resiliency and courage. The fates of the children are included at the end of the book, so the reader's attachment to them is fulfilled by learning of their lives after the story ends.

FIVE STARS!! - and this recommendation is coming from a former operating room technician and the wife of a retired physician/surgeon.

I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to take charge of their life - and their health. You may not agree with everything in Dr. Foster's book - but you will be forever changed in the way you look at conventional medicine and those who are your care-givers.

Read It! and Be Informed!

This book should be re-released!!

The author went to medical school and decided not to continue with her studies and get her license to practice medicine. The reason is she got sick and "modern medicine" could do nothing to help. She came to the conclusion that she had wasted her time learning a medicine that actually did more harm than good.

You will be shocked to see an "insiders" story about the medical profession. What do they really think when they perform all these worthless, painful tests on patients?

If she had continued and gotten her license to practice medicine and had even suggested herbs or vitamins to her patients, they would have yanked her license. Even suggesting someone take vitamin E is "unconventional" and will make you a target of the establishment.

I wish Amazon had this available, I found mine at the vitaminshoppe. This book is timely and would have a much bigger audience now than it did in 99. I see a lot more people opening their eyes to the medical establishment and turning their backs on it.

Did you know nurses have to wear very thick gloves when they administer chemotherapy? Otherwise, they could burn a hole in their skin! The also have to be sure to inject it directly into the vein, not into the tissues, where it would kill all the tissue it touches.

I think this is a remainder book now, I hope everyone can find it somewhere or it is re-released.

My child is 6 and wants more of these wonderful stories - we play them in the car and at home and her French is really improving - plus it is just fun for her!

Thank you Mrs. Foster for creating these tapes.

The storyteller tells the background story in English and conversation, exclamations, etcetera are in French. The voices are excellent. The two children play the parts. The listener is drawn in to participate. The mixture of French and English works very well for someone just getting introduced to French.

These cassettes are riveting. My kids really love learning the spanish words. The voices of Veronica, and the children are wonderful. The intonations and "join-in" method really encourage my children to participate. Well worth it!

I highly recommend these tapes. My almost-5 year old has been listening to them for a week now, and picking up Spanish phrases easily. The six stories included are ones that she likes and knows, so when the Spanish phrases are introduced, she can intuitively translate them into English. A bit pricey, but worth it considering how much we will use it.

The Inspirational Faith of Dr. Bob Foster

Dr. Bob Foster persisted against one set-back after another to build hospitials and clinics in Africa. He trusted God when it seemed futile and had a vision few other people would have dared to have. In spite of great accomplishments in medical care and 'bricks and mortar' his greatest character trait was his love for people and the time he took to let people know how he cared.

An excellent record of the life of surgeon Robert Foster.

Lorry Lutz presents an intriguing account of the lives of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Foster, and their work as missionary pioneers in the Dark Continent, Africa. A testimony of the faithfulness of God in the lives of His children, "Sword & Scalpel" shows the Lord at work, guiding the hands of Dr. Foster as he performs miraculous surgeries in the bush. The book is an accurate life account of exciting events from grapples with Black Mambas, hippo hunts, Cuban invasions, and a light of hope in the darkness of the world. A must read for anyone interested in the life of missionaries, or those searching for the answers that only God can provide.

a great book for youth in care

I was in foster care and was adopted myself. This book starts out with easy questions and helps to build a level of comfort, before moving on to some of the more challenging questions. It talks about both positives and negatives, and really gives an adolescent a good, safe opportunity to explore his/her life so far and think about where he/she would like it to head.

An adolescent could do this all at once, or could take his/ her time. It is cohesive, but also easy to leave off in one place and come back to later.

This is a great thing for an adolescent to work on with a caring adult. I highly recommend this book. The interactive nature and ability this gives the adolescent to take ownership of his/her experiences is great.

I think "For When I'm Famous" is great! I just gave a copy to another child last week, and he thought it was so cool! We spend our session driving all over the city taking pictures of places he's lived, schools, parks, etc to put in his lifebook. Thanks to Beth O'Malley for her dedication to these kids!

My favorite gardening book. If you garden in Tennessee, this is the book for you. I get this book out every season. Truely the what, when, and where of Tennessee gardening. It really helps me to pick the perfect plant for for my gardens. It has also been very helpful in picking great trees for my yard, selecting the right fertilizers, and when and how to prune. I love the format of the book. It is very well organized and easy to read. It doesn't bombard you with a lot of unnecessary info, like so many garden books do. I also love Walt's Wisdom that is scattered throughout the book.(Example; To hear God's Voice, turn down the volume.) I think this will become one of your favorites!

I believe in the truth--that it should make things better. But like a lot of people I hate conflict and confrontations. That's always made me bite my tongue when I should've spoken up. This is the only book I've seen that shows me how to have more truth and more harmony in my life at the same time. Plus this book is filled with wonderful, insightful, illuminating stories. I felt the author understood me. This book is the best.
