This excellent book illustrates the sort of scholarship that intellectuals were inclined to expect before the postmodern turn
led academics to believe that they could support arguments with opinions and autobiography. Ford examines the emergence in
classical Greece not only of critical commentary and exegesis but also of poetic theory and poetry itself. Because he knows
essentially everything about this period, Ford is able to apply linguistic and historical analysis to these topics to give
readers the most in-depth treatment in print. Along the way, readers gain important insights into the works of Plato and
Aristotle and are able to understand how the Sophists' teaching of poetry provided the foundation for their subsequent teaching
of rhetoric. Ford writes, for example: "Viewing songs as objects produced by a craftsmanly kind of 'making' (poiesis) supported
fifth-century rhetorical analyses based on language and structure, and paved the way for the fourth-century study of poetics,
'the art of (verbal) making" (p. 93). Readers who appreciate Edward Schiappa's work will find that THE ORIGINS OF CRITICISM
is an excellent companion piece, illuminating the transition from orality to literacy between the sixth and fourth centuries.
This text is a "must read" for any serious student of classical Greece.

An ancient and evil force is stalking man, seeking humanity's annihilation. It has grown wise over the centuries and sees
modern mass media and centralized government as the avenues for our destruction. It is searching to liberate our fourth soul,
where our true evil resides. It pits two men in the ultimate battle. Will man survive as America totters on the precipice
of war with China? One Asian-American man, fractured and broken by his experiences in Vietnam, stands as the only obstacle
to the end of the human race. His trials drive him to the edge of insanity. Does he have the moral strength to fight the final
battle? This is a story that will challenge your preconceptions and lead you into the confusing depths of man's spirituality.
It is a book to read with the doors locked and all the lights on bright.

This book is a treasure! It tells of many of Mary's appearances since the 1800s and weaves them together as a story, rather
than a documentary. It begins with the origin of the Miraculous Medal after appearances to Saint Catherine Laboure and eventually
weaves into the picture later events including Lourdes, Fatima and others.
For those of us who seek and love religious classics, this is certainly one of them. It exaplained many details I had never encountered before and made the last century and a half an exciting journey in faith.

This issue has some very intriguing stories in it. One of the best is about a woman who cleans hotel rooms. Another is about
the death penalty used with regularity in Trinidad. The photo essay on Sierra Leone is quite profound. I highly recommend
looking into the issue and discovering the surprises for yourself. Maybe you are another Overachiever.

The Palace File should be number one on Hamid Karzai's reading list! The promises made in secret between one nation's leader
and another have little value, it seems. Some would argue that such secret pledges should never be made by the elected leader
of a true democracy. "Our" sincere pledges never to abandon an ally and never to waste the blood sacrifices of American troops
are well-documented in The Palace File. The documents speak for themselves.
Those who doubt American staying power in the "war on terrorism" will find much ammunition for their arguments in a quick read of this sad tale of failed adventure in Vietnam. Our new but familiarly avid "nation builders" need to study The Palace File before they charge full-speed down the same slippery slope toward ignominy.
This book has also been published in the Vietnamese language, and is a wonderful learning tool for students of Vietnamese who are preparing for official assignments in Vietnam.

If you are an African American Romance novel lover, this collection is for you. Each story stands on its own, although the
first two books have interconnected characters. You will need the whole weekend to read through Bette Ford's well-written,
believable and sometimes intense romance tales. Both the men and women are real characters you will want to root for.
