I bought this book just for reference. But when I started to read the book I realized that some common things I have grown acustom to was actually a problem in the car. And this book showed me how to fix the problem. I was able to rebuild the entire front end of the car myself!! This book saved me thousands in labor...

I would rate it 10 stars!! But I can't!!!

This book is great but is missing something.

I think that the book is extremely helpful. The only problem (so far) that I can't fix with this book is - How do I fix the rattle of the air ducts above the headliner with out butchering the headliner?

Thanks

This book will allow you to take your mustang apart and put it back together. It's only limitations are: the electronics section should be more extensive, there should be part numbers with every item, factory paint colors, emissions could use some more detail, etc. But overall, this is a great book for the 1979-88 mustang, because we all spend at least a few hours a month doing maintenence to keep them from falling apart.

What a Decade the 1950's and what a car the Ford! This is a Must book for fifties car buffs and Ford car buffs. The whole decade comes alive with beautiful color pictures, facts, prices, stories on every Ford from 1949 to 1959. It takes you through the 50s one year at a time and as a Baby Boomer it brought back so many wonderful memories of a Golden Era that will never be repeated. I cherish this book and regard it as one of the best ever written.

This is a must-have book if you're a Ford classic car buff--or a 50's fan. Author Mike Parris has a way with words--and pictures. Parris provides the pertinent (and most interesting) facts and stories behind Ford cars of the fab 50's, gleaned from research as well from interviews with some of the decade's key Ford execs. Included: behind-the-scenes info that brings the auto scene of the era to life. Photos are from premiere Detroit auto library collections--but also include Mike Parris' original (and outstanding) photography. (I especially love the pics of the Woodies, wood-sided station wagons that came and went with bobby-sox--seems they weren't practical once put to the test--but talk about a look that's gotten funky-cool with age!) Also included: some of the fun and nostalgic advertising of the era. This book is a visual treat and captures the golden glow of one of FoMoCo's fabbest decades.

This is, perhaps, one of the most important books written of the decade (90s). At the "end of the modern age" and the deconstructionist movement, this book explains what should happen "after the deconstruction takes place". This argument for a pan-experiential world view finds common ground between the vitalism of the pre-modern age and the determinism of the modern age. The dynamic synthesis leads one to anticipate, with excitement a re-constructive age where all experience is embraced; the scientific and verifiable built on the heart of the spirit. This work anticipates that aesthetics will take center stage in the new age. Read it, savour it, treasure it!

Superb overview of the history of process thought.

I find it striking that there are so many dumb people in the world. Like the person who wrote the review of this book and said "it's better than The Godfather...Mario Puzzo does an excellent job"! First, Editors Nick Browne & Horton Andrew wrote this book -- NOT MARIO PUZZO! Secondly, it analyzes the trilogy -- it's not an addition to the trilogy -- and thirdly, quit writing reviews about stuff you don't know. That's something I cannot understand, you write about something you know nothing about!

I could not stop turning the pages! I read & re-read the book, and I am still completly compelled with the Godfather! Much better than the movies! This is simply one of the best novels that has ever been written. It can hold its own among some of the greatest writers in history. Truly the defining novel of its genre. Mario Puzo has written the perfect novel and I for one will never forget his work.

And believe me, I'm an editor, no one EVER raves about how a book is edited--but in this case, I simply can't help myself. Paul J. Giguere's sinuous and sensual editing shapes every story. I'm sure John M. Ford is a fine writer and all, but truth be told, this book wouldn't be this book without the bountiful talents of young Mr. Giguere. I'm no science fiction fan, but I'm founding the Paul J. Giguere Editing Fan Club and Ogling Society, and I expect many readers will join--the second they can tear themselves away from this divine work! In fact, I may dedicate my life to following the teachings of heartthrob and dreamboat Paul J. Giguere. Anyone know if he's single? A girl can hope...

At LAST a collection of Ford's far-flung short masterpieces! Ford, to me, is like osetra caviar: nobody knows the name, and only true caviar devotees know it's the best. And boy, is this the best. Gaiman hits it in the foreword: Ford is a writer's writer, and you can't pin him down to one particular spot. The collection is rife with brilliant masterpieces, little jewels where the title alone will get you (i.e., "Scrabble With God", "Secret Hamlet Man"), or his retelling of the Orpheus story in a blues setting ("Here To Get My Baby Out of Jail") or a Thomas Dylan-like verse piece about the dreams of satellites ("All Our Propogations"), a long verse version of the Illiad in different cinematic styles ("Troy: The Movie"), and another one of the Shakespearean Wars of the Roses history cycle with showtunes and Gilbert & Sullivan ("A Little Scene to Monarchize"). Do yourself a favor: buy it, horde it, and dole out the pieces one at a time when you need a REALLY good read.

Practical "how-to": buy in, don't sell out
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2001-04-01
The strength of this book is in its nuanced case studies, which show the real-life dilemmas of those who may be subject to bias -- minorities, women, the disabled, gay workers, etc. The case studies not only sketch out the situation but include follow-up analyses, labeled "what should "x" have done?", that model how to cope with difficult situations. Suppose you're a woman at an investment bank with a Ph.D in economics and a great record attracting clients, and your boss has you stereotyped as a research beetle? What if you're a secretary with a very popular boss, but his compliments about your dress and appearance make you uncomfortable? Or a Pakistani software engineer whose colleagues joke that you must be sympathetic to terrorists? Or a black sales manager whose subordinates go over your head to complain about your aggressive management style -- and your own boss passes on the complaints without checking into their validity or encouraging the complainers to confront you directly? The book shows how to educate colleagues and bosses in situations like these without alienating them. While some of the advice about corporate "get-ahead" behavior is a little generic, the case studies make the book as a whole practical, practical, practical. Those who feel like "outsiders" in their workplace and are looking for ways to form good relationships and have their skills recognized will find it truly useful.

Strategies Many Probably Need

Here is a brief excerpt from the Introduction: "A special caveat: In the book we describe group tendencies. But, as we all know, not all members of a group share the same beliefs, values, and behaviors. Moreover, this book is not intended to be a definitive study of every group discussed. Instead, it makes use of some distinctive tendencies in each group to demonstrate how these tendencies may affect personal interaction, teamwork, and promotional opportunities in the workplace." As the subtitle correctly suggests, the authors suggest seven strategies for success "when you're not a member of the dominant group in your workplace." That is, when you are outside and determined to get inside. Here are the strategies: 1. Check Your Baggage, 2. Call Out the Cavalry, 3. Accentuate the Positive, 4. Blow Your Horn, 5. Buy In, Don't Sell Out, 6. Know Your Rights, and 7. Have a Vision. Each of these seven strategies is carefully explained and then illustrated. The material is based on real-world experiences, strategies, and tactics recommended by real people. If you are (or feel that you are) excluded from the dominant group in your own workplace, I urge you to obtain a copy of this book and read it with appropriate care. Moreover, I presume to share a few personal caveats of my own. First, not all "in" groups are worthy of joining. Also, those who are "in" today may be "out" tomorrow and then "gone" soon thereafter. Finally, the strengths you now possess (ie what you have inside of yourself) such as intelligence, integrity, and passion are far more important than acceptance by a group whose members may lack them. Shakespeare's Polonius was right: "To thine ownself be true."

Warwick Ford in "Fun on Foot in New England" has presented the natural beauty and history of New England through a wonderful display of trails and routes through its cities, towns, seaside, and forested areas which runners, joggers, and walkers can enjoy. As a runner with over forty years of pounding the pavement over the same routes, this book has introduced me to some very interesting places to put my running shoes on. Runners love new routes and the challenges they physically and mentally bring, this book gives me all this and more. Mr. Ford definitely understands the mind of a runner.

A great political work
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-10-07
This is an excellent book not only for summarizing the presidency of Gerald Ford but also for understanding of how the 1970's changed America. For those who wish to understand 2008 and the problems facing the election and the country they only have to look back to this time in history where unbridled disgust of the government and economic woes were abound. As past reviewers have stated this book does an excellent job of looking at how the Ford presidency shaped the America and provides a necessary reevaluation of the times. While Truman got his mythical bounce during the Ford era it may be in the times of the 2008 election and George W Bush that Ford may see his redemption. Ford faced a challenge unlike many presidents and as the author states "Ford may have been elected at the most unlucky time in history" with a host of internal political strife, economic woes of inflation and soon to be rising unemployment, as well as falling world prestige. He approached these problems with honesty and common sense providing leadership that saved the Republican Party and possibly allowed the country to heal from the rifts. Despite not wining reelection Ford shaped the future by marshaling the economic forces of the time trying to give the Carter administration a policy to work with. As you read the energy policies in this book they smack of the very things being discussed in 2008 from CAFÉ standards to development of alternate energy standards. In all this is a fascinating book to read and I recommend it to all students of political history.

A good look at the Ford presidency in the context of the 1970's
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-02
This is a very good book that looks back at the Ford presidency in an unbiased way and examines almost every aspect of Ford's term in office, including his foreign policy and leadership style. Ford actually understood economic policy better than any postwar president, having spent fourteen years on the House Appropriations Committee in Congress - his actual goal had been to be Speaker of the House. Facing unprecedented increases in inflation and the rate of unemployment, Ford insisted that controlling inflation would serve the country better in the long run than trying to reach full employment. Therefore, he fought hard to decrease government spending and deregulate industry rather than promoting jobs programs or accepting the price controls advocated by many in Congress, which his predecessor had attempted with disastrous results. Before he left office, inflation had been cut by more than one half and the number of Americans without jobs was declining. However, it was not enough to save him from defeat in the 1976 elections. Only after the disastrous Carter administration did the federal government and the nation actually have the political will to implement Ford's original suggestions more fully during the Reagan years - and they worked.

The book does a good job of detailing how the energy problems and inflation that plagued Ford were not of his making, and would have caused problems for any president. Also detailed are the unparalleled expectations of the American public at that time, having just finished exiting the unprecedented 25 year-long post-war boom as well as the radical nature of the Congress that Ford had to work with that was ushered in during the 1974 elections almost immediately post-Watergate. The author makes a good case that if you had members of this Congress trying to introduce legislation that would outlaw the spanking of children by their own parents, it is unlikely that Ford would be able to get this bunch to compromise on Congressional spending. The author's analysis also points to the need to consider Ford's presidency in the context of other threads of conservative thought, such as the rise of the religious right and the later growth of the GOP. I would recommend this well-written book to anyone wanting to understand Ford's presidency in the context of the unique decade of the 1970's. Recognize, however, that this is not a biography of President Ford. It's entire focus is his presidency.

A necessary re-evaluation of the Ford Presidency
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2006-11-20
An entertaining and historically necessary re-evaluation of one of our most underrated Presidents. Largely remembered for falling down, Mieczkowski shows how Ford's personal honesty, lack of arrogance or secrecy and willingness to let Congress, despite their largely successful attempt to thwart Ford's policy initiatives to regain their sense of power after four terms of an "Imperial Presidency" was exactly what America needed after the trauma of Watergate and Vietnam.

Ford never had any interest in seeking the Presidency. He was happy to stay in Congress, dreaming of being Speaker of the House. As Mieczkowski mentions, it takes a pretty big ego and a lot of ruthlessness to decide to run for President, make through the primaries and come out on top in November. As an "accidental" President who was never elected, Ford has perhaps the unique distinction of having smallest ego of any sitting President, an important bending of the stick after years of Nixon and Johnson.

Ironically despite being one of the most open Presidents when it came to press, he was mercilessly ridiculed by them, leading to his klutzy reputation. After Watergate and the 60's rebellion, no one was willing to trust anyone in authority and Ford had the bad luck to come into office when he did. Many who did attack him (even Chevy Chase as the book recounts) would latter regret it.

Mieczkowski also does a good job of reminding readers was a state of crisis America was in the mid- 1970's. Rampart inflation, out of control energy prices and a generalized lack of confidence in the future and our leaders were all problems Ford inherited and tried his best to confront. A combative Democratic controlled Congress, with a high percentage of "new Democrat" freshmen made sure that Ford spent more time in veto wars with the House and Senate instead signing his name to bills, so in terms of policy he accomplished little, but he did succeed in bringing back some sense of trust to the White House. In the end Ford was a man who never labored to sit in the White House, but when called upon to try to rebuild the broken trust America had in the Executive branch after the lies of Johnson and Nixon, Mieczkowski shows how Ford stepped into one of the more difficult positions any President has ever faced and left an important mark. His pardon of Nixon largely killed his chances to be re-elected, but Mieczkowski makes a well-argued defense of Ford's decision *whether you agree with it or not) and that Ford did it out of a need to move America onto issues beyond Watergate; not becuase of any "secret deal" with Nixon as some had rumoured. Even then, during his re-election campaign, he managed to cut Carter's intial dominating lead to mere points making the 76 election one of the closest in the 20th century. His openness, moderation and dialogue when dealing with opponents and scrupulous honesty are characteristics that I'm sure many of would like to see make a comeback in Washington.

I first read this gem in 1963, when I was just learning the game. I have re-read it every few years since, and still get something out of it each time.

It is admittedly dated, with the subsequent development of graphite and composite shafts, "metal-woods", hybrids and new ball technology (and other improvements). But the basic principles are still just as valid now as they were then; the grip, the basic swing, the mental game/strategy. The unique last chapter or two, where you literally play a few holes with the author, instilled in me with the belief that I would learn to play well, and quickly. (MAYBE not in the very first round, like I believed then, but, I was 13 !!! )( And I did learn to play well.)

I have taught maybe 20-25 people to play over the years, from scratch. And, with each one, their games soared once they digested the information in this little classic.

I would recommend it to any beginner at any time -- tho' they need to be made aware of the outmoded sections before they rack their intellect trying to find the old shafts, balls, etc., in this day and age.

Still, it is a real little diamond, hidden among a vast array of beginner's texts. Its popularity here on Amazon attests to its value.

I liked this book because it's small and concise and it tells you just what you need to know. As a beginner golfer I learned all the essentials that are valid today even though this book was published back in 1964. I think some things in the book should be updated but I still keep it in my bag as reference. Great all around book for the beginner golfer and for the price.
