Beverly Cleary is amazing at bringing the spunky little Ramona to life. Ramona can always find trouble. Her family seems so real and the situations are so funny. I have been reading Ramona since I was little and even now as a teen, I still re- read her books. When I started writing myself, the Ramona books were my inspiration. Without them I wouldn't have read as much or never even started writing. They are so wonderful and fun to read. No matter what age you are, you will love them.

Ramona's World
By: Beverly Cleary
Review By: F. Fang
Period. 3

Ramano's World is a fun book too read. It is about a girl named Ramona who is 9 years old. Ramona has a mom and dad, a big sister and a little one too. She was excited because her mom and dad just got a baby sister and she was really excited too see her. When she first saw her she was so surprised how little finger she had. She was in the forth grade and she was always a good girl. When she started fifth grade she met a new best friend.
I liked this book because it was really interesting. It was interesting because I was once in 4th grade too and too see how she went through 4th grade was pretty exciting. Ramona goes wants too be a big girl. She was not concerned about the 4th grade. She just learned how too put up with all of the teachers. Until one day Yard Ape dropped her a little nope while he was walking too the pencil sharpener and it was a note from the teacher. How teacher tells other kids too give other kids note is weird because I did not do that in 4th grade.
One part I disliked in the book is when Ramona was sad just because she wanted too argue with her mom instead of let her mom agree on what she wanted too do. I think that's pretty weird because most kids would be happy they don't have too argue too get what they want but Ramona actually wants too fight and argue with her mom too persuade too her that her new friend Daisy is a nice girl. This was the only part I did not really like.
My favorite part of this book is when Ramona and Daisy go to Daisy's house and play dress up. It was a pretty exciting part. While I was reading this chapter I was totally laughing. I think that playing dress is really fun. That's why I liked this part so much. Ramona gets a big red dress and Daisy get a yellow one with glitter on it and they pretend too be superstars. Wearing high heels and walking on a red carpet. This is my favorite part of the story Ramona's world.

I just finished reading this book to my elementary-aged daughters, and we had such a blast! I remember loving the Ramona books as a little girl in the 70s, and I was surprised to see some newer ones out.

As a parent, it's so refreshing to read a book where the humor is clean, and the author sees a need to preserve childhood. So many books today try to corrupt the innocent minds of children.

Each chapter of the book has a clear story arc and can be read as a stand-alone bedtime story. Yet unlike a short story, this children's novel gave us something to look forward to every night at bedtime. We couldn't wait to see what would happen next!

We don't want the series to end and hope Mrs. Cleary will write at least one more Ramona book!

This series is brilliant. I bought them as a "future read" for my child and decided to try them for myself. I got completely hooked and passed them to my mother who also got hooked.

This series is a must read on so many levels. Warning for the future "DO NOT SURRENDER YOUR FREEDOM!"

Very strong characters. Beautifully written. Story is intense and gripping. Each book in series is a true page turner. You will not want to put them down.

When we last left Luke Garner (or Lee Grant), he was happily planting garden's at Hendricks' School for Boys. He was content with his new surroundings and had openly chose Hendricks' as his new home where he would learn and grow. That was before we met Nina, Matthias, Percy, and Alia and this time around, Haddix decides that it is time to get back to Luke's story.

Luke (Lee) is treated like a god at Hendricks' School for Boys, and quite frankly, he should be. He introduced physical education to their daily schedules. He helps the students overcome their fears of the outdoors by letting them help in his gardens. He helps the students study so that they learn as much as they can from their classes. His life is changed drastically however, when Smits arrives at school. Smits is the real Lee Grant's (the name on Luke's false I.D. card) brother and this threatens Luke's situation at Hendricks'. Can he trust Smits with his secret and what exactly does Smits know?

Haddix cranks up the suspense and plot twists in this fourth installment, helping create in my opinion, the best of the series so far. While there are big things happening outside in the world she's created, Haddix very carefully decides not to tread there quite yet. She instead focuses on the somewhat smaller mystery of who the real Lee Grant actually was.

Through reading this series aloud to my class of fifth graders, I've discovered why these books are so appealing. Haddix creates characters that children can relate to. At times I find them predictable but they're by no means paper-thin either. My students love getting to know each new character and then invest a lot of emotion into watching that character survive in this world. Smits is no exception. He's initially unlikeable, but something draws children to him and the rest of these characters.

And Luke, this is not the same timid Luke we knew and loved from books one and two. This Luke is more seasoned. This Luke has seen things. This Luke has been places. Without having actually stepped foot in the outside world, he somehow has a sense of what it is like. I felt a strange chill when I realized that Luke is educating his fellow classmates and by doing so, creating an army of third children. Luke has clearly stepped forward as the hero of this series and if anyone is to save the day in this somewhat bleak setting, my bet is on Luke.

Tight suspense and clever plot twists aside, there's a reason this book has emerged as my favorite of the series. Something happens in this book that will change the remaining chapters of this series. A very simple scene that didn't actually cause my jaw to drop, but did cause me to pause and take in what was really happening. A scene in which you realize that nothing will be the same ever again for Luke. Haddix has now forced herself to venture into unseen territory and this is where this series will really be tested. She's created an interesting premise and it would seem that with book 5 coming, she's given herself an even bigger canvas to explore her world. Now lets see what she does with the paint brushes.

Nice work of historical fiction for young readers

This is a fast read -- you'll find yourself drawn into the book quickly -- and a wonderful piece of historical fiction based on Henry II of England, Louis VII of France, and of course Eleanor of Aquitaine, the only woman to be once queen of France and then queen of England.

This book enhances a young reader's appreciation for the Middle Ages. Although impressively accurate, Konicsburg makes one error when Empress Matilda (Henry II's mother) refers to King Stephen of England as her nephew when in actuality he was her first cousin.

Written from the viewpoint of four different persons who have shared the life of Eleanor of Acquitane, Konigsburg's book gives the reader an insightful look into the life of this regal lady. I went back and rewatched "The Lion in Winter" after having read this book and enjoyed both the movie and the book even more.

I read this as a student in the seventh or eighth grade more than a decade ago, so I don't have a detailed enough memory of the book to comment on the quality of the writing. But I do remember that this book introduced me to characters such as Henry II, Eleanor of Acquitaine, and all their sons, and I found it all very interesting. Later in life these people would be brought back to my attention by James Goldman's play "The Lion In Winter" and it was largely my memories of this book that made this play one of my favorites I've ever read. This book is a great way to introduce any young person to some of the most interesting figures in Medeival history.

Review Date: 2006-10-18
Before reading this book, I wasn't too interested in Eleanor of Aquitaine. I knew who she was, and dimly remembered reading about her somewhere, but nothing made an impression. At that time, I wasn't particularly interested in British or French history. This book completely changed that. I found Eleanor a fascinating woman, and instantly dove into a pile of books to learn more about her and her real life.

"A Proud Taste for Scarlet and Miniver" tells (pretty accurately) of Eleanor of Aquitaine, who is mostly known for being a wife of two kings, and the mother of two kings, but in reality, had a fascinating life by herself. Strong-minded and extremely independent, Eleanor was a major historical character, and in this book we see that clearly. She is proud and firm, and it's easy to find her fascinating.

The book draws the reader in quickly. It's not told by the same person all the time, which may be confusing to some, but I found it made the story flow much easier, because it meant that we didn't have to wonder why a certain character was around for so much. It's a wonderful historical novel, and really gets you reading other things about Eleanor of Aquitaine, and discovering how incredibly amazing she truly was.

I loved this book. I mean, really, really loved this book. It's got get history, a great main character, and so much more.

Being eight isn't easy; just ask Ramona Quimby. She's expected to be old enough to "play nicely" with her baby-sitter's toddler and to understand why the family hasn't enough money for life's little extras...but somehow, she isn't old enough to be included in her older sister Beezus' plans or to understand why her teacher might not like her.

Although written decades ago, Ramona's life is plain to anyone who reads about her today. What child can't relate to her joys and worries? Best of all, no matter what happens, it's apparent that Ramona will be all right...she has a family that love one another and will stick together through good and bad times alike.

I love ramona!

Ramona Quimby, Age 8 is written by Beverly Cleary and gets a 5 star rating by me.
I am rating this book 5 stars because it just brings back memories to kids older than 8. If you aren't older than 8 then it shows you sort of shows you what is to come in the future. Her lifestyle is a lot like a real human's lifestyle. That is another reason why I enjoyed reading this book so much. The author just amazes me because she makes a charcter that is not really a real person turn to life. As an example she lives with her sister who always bothers her. She has a cat and a next door neighbor named Henry.
My life relates to hers so much. When I was in 2nd grade people would like to take my things without asking. Just like in the novel, when Danny "The yard ape" steals her eraser and throws it around with his friend. This book also relates to my life when Ramona got that egg dropped on her head. When I was in fourth grade one of the same situations happen to me. My friend Eric started laughing really hard and spit his yogurt all over me then after that I had to go to the nurse and get it all cleaned up.
Some other books I would recommend are, Ramona and Her Mother, Ramona and her Father, and all the other Ramona Quimby books. I really recommend you to read this book.

Who is Trying to Kill Emily? Or is it All in Her Head?

R.L Stine has written one his best ever novels with terror filled pages ride of The Stepsister. Stine brings up many would be suspects for the crimes in this Fear St household and the reader will even wonder at times if being the victim is all in Emily (the main character)'s head. You will no doubt work out what is going on before it is revealed in the final pages but the fun is the thrill ride of an adventure in getting there. There's also a sequel The Stepsister 2 (Fear Street, No. 33).

Emily is ecstatic when she learns she is going to have a new sister. After the recent death of her father her mother has decided to shack up with her new boyfriend who Brady Bunch style is bringing along two kids of his own to join Emily and her sister Nancy. Not much room in this household though, so Emily will be sharing a room with her new stepsister Jessie. Jessie immediately starts to become bossy and insists on taking Emily's bed for herself. Emily is to cowardly to speak up for herself and thinks she'll make the most of the situation and just live with it until Jessie rips the head off her teddybear and yells at her dog. Emily wants to believe the decapitation was an accident and get along with Jessie but it is not long before it becomes obvious someone is trying to harm her. A shower accident, her dog is dead this is just beginning of Emily's terror. She thinks Jessie wants harm her. Does she? There's also the self centered abusive to his son Rich, step father. Rich himself seems to be a bit of weirdo, spending his days reading Stephen King and nights being brought home by the police. Emily also is dating her sister's exboyfriend so maybe she holds a grudge. All fingers in Emily's mind however point to Jessie when she reads her diary and learns that her old schoolmates suspect Jessie of murdering a classmate. Will she be Jessie's next victim or be able to convince her mum and stepfather that Jessie needs to be committed?

Emily is thrilled that Jessie is finally moving to Emily's house. ut as soon as she moves in, horrible things start to happen. Emily's report is erased from the computer, her dog is murdered and she nearly dies in a fire at school! It seems that Jessie is guilty. Does she really want to kill Emily?

In this book "The Stepsister", you will read horrible things that will keep you reading for hours. Maybe even days! Usually when I start to read a book, I never finish it. But this book, once I started to read it... I could not stop reading it! In this book Emily Casey is the main character and her mom is getting married to her soon to be step dad. He and his two kids, Jesse and Rich are moving in with Emily and her family. They soon move in and not even two days later, weird things begin to happen to Emily. Changes... So far her and Jesse have not gotten along so far at all. Jesse for no reason is doing all these evil things to Emily!! Emily just knows it's her! Jesse puts peroxide in her shampoo to change her hair color, she tries to steal her boyfriend, and thats not all! Death taking things happen! If you want to find out what happens, then you should read this book. If you like twisted, evil, back-stabbing books... Well then what are you waiting for! Read this book! I did.

I liked the book because it had a surprise ending. It was kind of boring at the beginning but once something bad happened it started to get interesting.
The book Stepsister was about a high school girl named Emily, her sister Nancy, and her stepsister named Jessie. One day when Jessie was taking a nice calm bath, Emily starts to read Jessie's diary. The entry she read was something that she thought that Jessie did was true. The whole time Jessie was living with them some bad things happened, for example, when Emily got home from a dance she found her dog dead. Then the next day she finds her dogs dead body in her backpack. But at the end something happens that you wouldn't expect.
I think this book will be good for anyone older than 10 because little kids they would probably think it was scary. Another reason is that there are words that little kids wouldn't understand.

Among the brave is about a boy named Trey. Trey has made appearances in two other shadow children books, helping out main characters such as Luke and Nina. This time he's a main character. Trey's friend Lee (who is Luke) has been kidnapped by the population police, along with Nina. Trey has pretty much been a coward his whole life, except for a few key moments. He is stuck at the Talbot's house, (where a character Jen, lived and died in a previous book.) expecting to talk with Mr. Talbot, (a population police officer who helps third children. Instead the house gets raided by the population police and Mr. Talbot arrested. Trey decides to stay there for a while, not knowing what to do, as his friends are kidnapped, and no one can help. The he meets up with Mark (one of Luke's two brothers) and Smits, who is taking the name Peter as his new identity. Mark and Trey go to the new population police headquarters, which used to be the Grants (Smits parents) house. Mark gets caught and taken away by the poulation police. Trey now has to save yet another person. He signs up for the population police, and sneaks through the vents of the house. He eventually finds Mark in the basement. He sees Mark being sentenced to death fo having food illegaly. Trey tells Mark to yell liber, which is Latin for free. One of the guards comes in and asks why Mark was yelling liber. Mark said because he wanted to be free. The guard, Trey, and Mark work out a deal, he is going to help Trey and Mark save there friends for information about them. The guard told Trey to get to Mark's truck and drive it close the HQ. Trey did that and walked into the building. The guard, Trey, and Mark get in the truck, with Mark still in the cage. They go to a prison camp called Nezeree. They have to go through a mob of people to get to the camp, and the truck even flipped over but survived. At the prison, the crew went to the warden, and had Mark sent to a cell block. He meets up with the rest of his friends in prison cells,Lee, Nina, Joel, and John, and the chauffeur from before. They all escape the prison.

This is definately a book for anyone who likes suspenful books. This applies to all the Shadow Children series. Like many others, I was skeptical about reading this book at first, but then I realized that I was mistaken. This book was one of the best installment compared to the first few books.

When I first started to read this, I thought it wouldn't be as great as the others because the story was mainly focused on a new character named Trey. Since the prior books were centered on Luke/Lee, I thought that this book couldn't continue the momentum from the other books.

This book is an absolute must and a welcomed part to the series. Throughout this book, you learn more about the population police and their headquarters. Luke, Nina, and other shadow (third) children are captured. Only Trey reamins to rescue them, but is he brave enough to?

If you are a fan of this series just like me, then this is a book that MUST be read. It continues from the previous book and trasitions great into the next one. It's one of those book were when you start reading it, you can't stop!

I wondered if this book was going to be a hysterical anti-civilization book, but it was not. The author makes many valid points: We are seeing an increase of multi-symptom diseases, brain diseases and other odd aliments. And we don't have any idea how most of the chemicals we are exposed to react to each other and our bodies. This book is definitly a "wake-up call." Even if you finish this book thinking maybe the threat isn't as great as the author claims, you will still end up reviewing and altering your eating habits and chemical exposure.

More horrifying than the best Stephen King book

Many of us have heard bits and pieces of what's contained in this book -- chemical body burdens, unintended and disastrous side effects of drugs, toxic households, lead in toys, etc. -- but to have it all together, in one well-researched book, was literally more horrifying than the best Stephen King book. This book was an epiphany for me -- and I haven't had one of those in years.

Author stops just short of the truth

Is this book alarmist? Not even close. It spells out many of the known facts, plain and simple. These facts are not known by many people, granted, but that is their fault ultimately. Does this book answer the big "why" questions? Not really, because the truth in these areas is too controversial in order to get published, and after all, the author's main goal is to get a book out to the public. In this way, all mainstream published material can only tell half the real story at best.

The truth sounds closer to the following: all things produced by all corporations - especially the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and tabacco industries - are done so with an extremely high technological level of biochemistry. Mistakes are not made. Extra chemicals or compounds are not added without cause. The effects achieved are intentional and very much expected. There are no accidents, miscalculations, or incompetance within these labs. All the additives, preservatives, dyes, chemicals, flouride, aspartame, MSG, etc, etc are in their products not just for color, flavor, preservation, or profit. Addiction and debilitation (ie. sickness and disease) are the MAIN reasons for some very good reasons: 1) addicted people are huge sources of profit because they continue to buy and consume product regardless of the value or harm to them, 2) addicted people will actually defend their products even if the damage is obvious because they don't want to face withdrawl symptoms or admit that what they put in their mouth "voluntarily" caused their illness, 3) sick people are also huge sources of profit because they want to quell their symptoms and don't know any natural ways to do it - so they look to the medical profession, 4) addicted and sick people are distracted and unable to see what is going on around them, and don't have the energy to fight it if they could understand it, 5) addicted and sick people die early and don't collect on their "benefits" or cash in on their dreams, 6) addicted and sick people are easily scared, manipulated, and directed by those who want to control them and profit from them.

That's the truth in a nutshell people. It may sound evil, it certainly does involve a variety of conspiracies, and although it is difficult to say for sure "who" or "what" is pulling all the strings, it is easy to see all the puppets involved. Corporations kill and mame, thus, avoidance of anything corporate is the key along with a solid education on the benefits of the natural World. But, it was only 3 generations ago that this advice was fully understood and practiced. Why did we forget and how did we get so brainwashed, you say? I'm certain these affects are all part of the corporate biochemical agenda also... Do NOT underestimate the brilliance, the cunning, the motivation, the funding, and the technology these corporate / governmental / military people (pirates?) have. Reading labels has become useless (legal definition of words versus the common usage definition). Taking mainstream multivitamins / minerals is useless (all produced now by Big Pharma). Genetically modified food will be absolutely devastating to us all and be forced on us whether we like it or not (thanks to Monsanto). The organic industry has been hijacked also (legal definition of "organic" radically changed in 2001 without our knowing). It is already a big challenge just to get quality water without a ridiculous amount of toxic garbage in it (flouride, chlorine, drug residues, arsenic, etc). And not surprisingly, our "utilities" (hydro, power, gas) have all been privatized. Government / corporate sponsored science (which is 95% of science) is completely bought and paid for and will state anything that their financiers request, regardless of how shameless of how contradictory to common sense. The media has been gagged for decades (a la Operation Mockingbird) and used for misdirection psych-ops on a daily basis, as true objective investigative journalism has been extinct for almost as long as the dinosaurs. Any trust or good assumption of any corporate entity is a deadly mistake. Starbucks, for example, although now ingrained into our social fabric and generally celebrated is involved in activities and aligned with other forces that would shock the $250 jeans off the average metrosexual. Just think how your body appreciates that chemically decafed latte with pus/viral/hormone contaminated Monsanto milk, combined with the horrific neuro-toxin Aspartame (Sweet & Low), and topped with some corn syrup derived (pancreas debilitating) topping. Yummmmy. Why do we do it? Mind manipulation, addiction, social pressures, ignorance, and apathy to name a few.

Total corporate avoidance and REAL education are the keys, although radical in most people's minds. Mark these words and god's speed to you and your families.

One of the better books on retirement as it addresses the world we live in now, a big difference to the world our parents grew up in.

I'm sure glad that I found this book! As a Baby Boomer rapidly approaching retirement, I found it to be just what I needed. There is a lot of information about planning for your retirement along with where to retire to - I didn't agree with all of them but that's okay.

If you have a retirement question then you should find your answer in this book. I refer back to it quite often.

This book gives you a great way to start your research on retirement. The authors have included information that you might not have considered when thinking about retirement. The book is easy to read and the "real life stories" give it an edge over other books of this type.

This book was great. Madison is so bored. Her two best friends, Aimee and Egg, are of at camp. It is summer vacation. Madison is just about to start seventh grade...she is so nervous. Then a new girl moved to Madison's neighborhood. They become friends. Then Aimee comes back from summer camp and the three of them become best friends. I would say that if you are a Madison Finn lover then you should read this book. If you are not a Madison Finn lover you should read the book too.

This series by Laura Dower is a great series for girls ages 8-12. I used to be obsessive about these series!!! I own every single one up to "All That Glitters"...I'm now older and am not as enthusiastic about this series as I used to be, but from what I remember about them, they're great for kids under 13. Madison is a nervous, down-to-earth girl who loves computers. Her BFFs are Aimme, Fiona, and Egg. Get a great read and pick up some IM lingo on the way!

A awesome start off to a Great series!!!

The first book in the Madison Finn series is about a girl named Madison Finn and her friend Aimee. Aimee is away at ballet camp for the summer, and Madison is bored. Madison goes online and meets a girl named viki ( a.k.a. Big Wheels) When a new girl moves in down the street will Madison not be only the lonley any more?

Find out in this book Only the Lonley. ( I reccomend this book for kids 8-11)

"Death Project" is the best

What impressed me the most were the many mysterious deaths relating to the Coup. I formed a strong opinion of the Coup at that time but did not continue to think about it very much. It was not until some 25 years later with the help of the internet and some disposable income that I was able to get ahold of enough material to sort out the disinformation and false flags and get the true , however hard to swallow , picture of the crime.

Now that I know it was a classic Coup d' etat with the Secret Service stopping protection that day, I hope the truth will finally stopped being surpressed by the mainstream media.

Why does it still matter? It matters because our Government continues to lie and insult our intelligence regarding this Coup d' etat. And the powers that took out our President, installed themselves in power as a result of this Coup are still very much there.

Anybody who has been following the Assassination of JFK will find this an excellent resource.I have read or watched everything I've come across since that fateful day in Dallas.I still remember the newsreels I watched for several days from the actual killing ,the live shooting of Oswald by Ruby in front of many millions of viewers ,the funeral and all that came in the way of investigations , books ,articles ,TV specials and movies.
This is by far the best coverage of the evidence by photos that I have ever seen all collected in one book.A lot of the things shown in the book will be familiar;but here we get the most detail on every aspect of things that have been questioned
and even in cases manipulated.I have to admit that I felt that some of the conclusions and detail 'seen' were a stretch;but I don't have the benefit of the extreme expertise that the investigators, scientists and detectives use to deduce evidence and meaning.
I was not so aware of the prepondence of evidence and argument that exists to show why it was a conspiracy, and can in no way be dismissed as the act of a lone killer. For about 20 years the occurrence of a conspiracy might have been in doubt;but no longer.
I have had this book on the shelf for quite a long time but didn't think there was a lot of new stuff here.I just thought it had excellent detail.I finally decided to read it and was very impressed .Then I read a lot of the reviews and was very surprised to find recent reviews on a book published back in 1993.
A recent review by Vince Palamara on December,2005;really got my attention.A check of his other reviews produced a storehouse of reviews on JFK and other conspiracies;and is a resource in itself. One review of his on "Ultimate Sacrifice" by Lamar Waldron was particularly interesting, and the reviews on that book are a real eye opener.I had not heard of this new book and from the flood on recent reviews makes it look like the whole issue is about to blow open again.I am anxiously looking forward to reading it.
Now that it appears that the arguments about a conspiracy may be behind us; the focus is going to be who and why.Not only JFK,but what about conspiracy in RFK,Martin Luthur King and what about many others connected.I have never believed that we have heard the end of the Marilyn Monroe story yet.
Anyone interested in the JFK Assassination should get this book.
