One of the classics about the assasination of JFK
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 1999-12-15
Written at the family's request between 1964-68, this is one of the most detailed accounts of the JFK case, Although embracing the official perspective - L.H. Oswald the lone killer / no conspiracy - the book is a detailed story of the last days of President Kennedy's life and the next days until the funeral, the deeds of lots of White House staff, the president's family, Dallas people and the touching reaction of American people - the ones which shoudn't have asked what America can do for them, but what THEY can do for America. William Manchester is one of the great non-fiction writers which makes written history as vivid as real life. "The death of a president" is one of his masterpieces - famous enough to be translated into romanian, the language in which I first read it, since it is my mother tongue.

Hearing Desert Voices
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2000-06-14
As a preschool teacher, I was unsure how my students would take listening to the poetry of Byrd Baylor, but as soon as I began reading 20 preschool children sat still as they heard Desert Voices. The children could relate to what was being said, because they too live in the desert. The book sparked conversation about desert plants, animals, and rocks. The poetry brought the desert to life in their minds. I recomend the book to all children, as a way to introduce poetry, learn about the desert, and enjoy the desert.

Awesome photos (gushing volcanic lava, destroyed highway, etc.) and a colorful book design. Covers standard natural disaster topics such as earthquakes, tsunami, wildfire, landslides, and avalanches. Also, looks at man-made devastation like habitat destruction. Karen Woodworth-Roman, Children's Science Book Review

I found this book fascinating and very helpful to my practice as an executive coach. I was qualified in the MBTI in October 2005, and was hungry for more information about how to apply it in a business setting. This book has the most targeted, in-depth information I've found yet. It's immediately applicable. A perfect book for people who want to go deeper with the MBTI.

This book is absolutely fabulous. I like the style of Fitzgerald, and I believe that in this masterpiece he is in the peak of his talent. The book has a very effective style, and teaches its readers about what it aims. I also reccomend 'The Short Stories 'of F. S. Fitzgerald.

For the Dinosaur Buffs in Your Life
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-12-16
This book will appeal to dinosaur buffs especially if they love dogs too. It also is a great introduction to Mary Ann Anning who was instrumental in the development of the dinosaur concept. It wasn't known what these bones were in the early 1800's and the scientific method was just beginning to be used regularly. The kids can go on to harder books about dinosaurs and fossils later. A good book for a jumping off point into the study of dinosaurs.
