A fresh approach to Fitzgerald

I would never have thought that someone could still write a fresh approach to Fitzgerald, especially in an introductory book. However, Curnutt has done just that here. I read this book with both wonder and admiration at how Curnutt has reformulated the old critical approaches into something fresh and new, without having the whole thing weighted down by theoretical baggage. I recommend this book to experienced and novice readers of Fitzgerald alike.

Funny and Good Illustrations
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2004-12-07
This is a funny book that shows a cat who jumps to attention at the sound of a bugle, and has more stripes than a drill sergeant. While captains don't wear stripes (they have bars), the book is a funny look at miltary life, from the perspective of a cat who innocently wanders onto an army post and is befriended by a soldier. The book is suitable for K-3, but is also a good choice for older readers who need the confidence that successfully completing a book on his or her own provides. This book was available in my son's elementary school library, which I believe says something for its broad appeal.

I like this story because it is very mysterious. When you find out about the blue door and how people find out about these wonderful, surprising things, you will find it to be very interesting.

I hope you will like this story!

I love all the Hank books, and this is a great one for the Christmas season. These books are hilarious and more important to the young reader, fun to read. I'd also check the rest of the series.

Reading Recovery
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 1999-07-09
One of the most important aspects to this new series of books, is that the texts are consistent with the type of book used in the Reading Recovery program. Previously, if you wanted supplemental books for your child that were predictable, had rhyming or repetitive text and real picture cues, you had to wade through the lists made available, title by title. There are hundreds of books that fit this description, but it takes hours to search for individual books. Green Light Readers promises to publish strictly this type of book. And the few I've seen are still current, use popular authors and are lively and interesting. I hope the publisher takes this idea even past the first two levels.

Featuring contributions by Jeanne Barbour, Amanda Cobb, and Linda Hogan on Chickasaw life, history and culture, "Chickasaw: Unconquered And Unconquerable" is a pictorial tribute to the resilience and endurance of the Chickasaw Nation. The full color illustrations by professional photographer David Fitzgerald present a series of accomplished Chickasaw members reflecting the diverse accomplishments contributed to the rich contemporary tapestry of Chickasaw culture in the fields of art, music, literature, athletics, politics, education, health, and even space flight. "Chickasaw: Unconquered And Unconquerable" is an impressive, inspiring, welcome, and highly recommended addition to personal, academic, and community library Native American Studies collections.

Collaboratively compiled and edited by Judith Fitzgerald and Michael Oren Fitzgerald, Christian Spirit is a welcome source of inspiration and meditation. An inspiring blend of images of early Christian art and the wisdom of great Christian souls from the earliest times of the Christian movement, Christian Spirit presents combinations of words and pictures that make it useful as a resource quote book. Offering a 150 page glimpse into the wealth of wisdom that has illuminated the efforts of Christian seekers after the Kingdom of Heaven for two thousand years, Christian Spirit is exceptional and enthusiastically recommended reading for all members of the Christian community regardless of denominational affiliation.

Solid biblical reference
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2002-02-15
This book is an easy to use reference book which pulls together the various renderings of the content of Chronicles in other Biblical books. There are charts which succinctly show the emphasis of particular accounts by charting the number of verses in particular books spent on the history of specific individuals. The book makes it easy to study the historical period covered by Chronicals as a single unit rather than the hop-scotching that reading the Bible straight through provides.

Highly recommended for anyone studying Chronicles - whether you call it Tanak or Old Testament.
