Good oneReview Date: 2008-02-13
It is a native belief system that began here, as all of us born in America did-and that has meaning. It is intuitive, yet tangible. Nothing about it is forced, and no symbol or person represents it. It is everything...and it is nothing. You can find its masters here...on this continent. It's not imported from China, Israel, Iraq, or Tibet. There are no human founders, prophets or leaders living or dead who are worshiped. No symbols to rally an army or angry mob behind.
In this book, our American ancestors give you a look across many different tribes, each of which has a remarkably similar spiritual essence, born of the land we inhabit. The deserts. The mountains. The rivers, forests and meadows. While I think it is neat to study other religions and philosophies, they all have men, symbols, houses of worship and styles of dress that identify and define them. How well you memorize, display, adhere to and pay homage to these things of man determines your piousness and how well you are accepted into to their community. Indian Spirit frees you from these things.
Perhaps one could study Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Sufism, Judaism, and other philosophies and religions that one respects to nurse out all of the best bits so one can create an amalgam for some personal belief system based on "favorite hits". But why bother? It's like searching endlessly through junkyards to scavenge parts that are only perhaps cosmetically better than the parts you already have on your car. Oooh...a chrome plated ash tray. Wow, a leather covered steering wheel. Nifty, spoked rims.
All the ingredients for a spiritual belief system that is in harmony with our country are here. Open its pages and discover your American ancestors and perhaps a new dimension to your own spiritual journey.

Overall, a tough job had been done very nicely and user friendly. Congratulations to the author and the publisher for bringing this book very nicely. It would be very useful especially for Hindus settled outside India and to Hindu Children born outside India - who are confused to learn Hindu Dharma.
A must book to be read!

PS - The flame continue to burn at Arlington . . .
Do we need another book on J F Kennedy?--Definitely, if it is as good as this one.Review Date: 2006-03-22
I have been following the Assassination of JFK ever since that terrible day on November 22,1963.I was glued to the TV for nearly a week and watched Jack Ruby actually kill Oswald live in plain view of millions of viewers. At the time ,there was no doubt about how serious an event was underway,and one had to wonder where will it all end. The only comparable event in my lifetime was the attack on America on 9/11.
Over the years I have read numerous books and watched many hours of films,documentaries and much discussion on the Assassination.
The book covers the whole life of JFK and picks out the most important events,comments and photographs.
There has been talk of conspiracy ever since it happened and this book sums up the reasons why the Assassination took place and who was behind it.
Look at these quotes and try to convince yourself that there was no conspiracy.
"Mark my word, this man Kennedy in in for trouble,and he will get what is coming to him....Kennedy's not going to make it to the election. He is going to be hit."
Mafia Boss,Santo Trafficante
"If I told you what I really know,it would be very dangerous to this country. Our whole political system would be disrupted."
J.Edgar Hoover
"Our polls consistantly show 80% of Americans believe there was a Conspiracy. If in fact there was,and if President Johnson and the FBI did pressure the Warren Commission to defuse the fears of a conspiracy,in doing so they may in fact have averted a chance for war against Cuba and the Soviet Union."
"One of your boys did it."
Robert Kennedy to Cuban Exile Leader, Harry Williams
The book also gives many quotes that were so well made by Kennedy.
On being asked how he became a War Hero;
"It was absolutely involuntary.
They sank my boat."
Another of his great quotes;
"Any man who may be asked in this country what he did to make his life worthwhile,I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction;
"I served in the United States Navy."
The book concludes with a most moving picture of Jacqueline,kneeling at the grave of her husband; with the comment by Mary McGrory;
"Jacqueline Kennedy....lit a flame that is to burn forever in his grave--against the day that anyone might forget that her husband had been President...
The important question is not "Who killed Kennedy", but,
"Why was Kennedy killed."
If you want only one book on JFK,make this the one.

Johnny, I Wish I Knew YeReview Date: 2001-03-17
I am fifteen years old. The reason that I read this book is because I hope one day to be involved in public life. I began this book knowing relatively nothing about Kennedy, except his assination and his line, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." This book gives me information to quench my thirst for knowledge as well as inspire and provide me with information that I will be able to use in the future, which I am only aboe to dream of now.
I love this book and feel that it is a shame that this is out of print. I feel that it is atrocious to think of a person not even attempting to find a copy of this book or not reading it if they have it. To conclude, I feel that this book is well worth the read, and so much more.

Innocently Beautiful, Reminiscent of our Mulatto Heritage.Review Date: 2002-12-01
It is 4 classic tales of Puerto Rican folklore, from the legendary Juan Bobo. The Stories are told buy mulatto author and writer, Carmen Bernier, and Ernesto Ramos Nieves. The illustration are beautiful in a childish way, bright colors that are so remanisant of the Puerto Rican rural countryside. If you look at the characters closely, no one is truly white, as was stated in a review prior to mine. In fact if you look at the "White" neighbor, she has the appearance of a mulatto, as does every one in the book. Also she lives in a wooden casita, as does Juan Bobo and his Mother.
This book is very much true to our Boriquen People on the island, it is not uncommon to see in one family, different tones and different colors. All the tales in this book are classics in Puerto Rican literature and folktale. The stories are as follows.
There are many books out there about Juan Bobo, and each one is a gem, and the stories presented here can be read in other books. But this is "An I Can Read Book" Aimed for younger children. Infect it was this book that one of my daughters read buy herself from front to back. I love this book and highly recommended. The stories are as follows.
The Best Way to Carry Water,
A Pig in Sundays Clothes.
Do Not Sneeze, Do Not Scratch..... Do Not Eat.
and A Dime A Jug.. Each one is a classic as verbally passed down to our parents from our Abuelos, and their Abuelos.
