My kids have all Judy Moody and Stink books. They love them, and I know for the fact that they help kids who struggle with reading in 3rd grade. They are easy to read and have a good story, are funny and appealing to that age group. A must have!

Wonderful Journey Through Research and Art

Review Date: 2008-08-11
From John Lasseter's foreword:
It also became a journey with its own reward, one we wanted to share with you in this book. -end-

With that, the book brings you onto a fantastic journey on the creative process of creating Cars, the movie close to John Lasseter's heart.

The few pages of stories separating the art let you understand how research was done, what the artists learn and ideas they want to bring across to the audience.

This book is filled with plenty of concept art drawings. Pixar artists draw hundreds of drawings each day but only selected ones were included into the book due to the limited number of pages. Every page is packed with art.

Also included are storyboards, architectural drawings, landscape drawings, lighting studies, car decor sketches, photos from their road trips.

This is a wonderful selection of drawings pulled off directly from the drawing board.

There are some pictures of the book on my blog. Just do a search on "parka blogs cars art"

I was pleased to have this book be in prime condition when it arrived. The price was excellent. The order came in a timely fashion.

The Art of books by Pixar are wonderful. For the artist these books give a great background into how the art brought the story alive.

I highly recommend these books, especially for those who love Pixar.

If you enjoy learning the behind the scenes process that goes into many of the animated and computer animated films of today, you will love this book.

It shows step by step the drawings and thoughts that went into each character in Radiator Springs and also the creation of all the backdrops. From the smallest signs and orange cones to the racetrack and beyond, you can see how it all evolved.

It's nicely bound with a great jacket cover. Definitely a nice coffee table book your guests will enjoy leafing through or the perfect addition to the library of any art and animation lover.

Pixar's most recent animation is fully revealed in this wonderful art book. All the research, ideas, and concepts are printed gorgeously in this book. You see how the ideas are captured on paper to guide the production teams to make one of the best animation in years. Conceptual ideas of characters from the beginning to the final rendered CGI model on screen are all there. The landscape is captured in with colorful pastel paintings. Even all the details from neon signs to the Southwest vegetation are drawn out for you to see. Everything in the book is traditional artwork techniques from pastels, blue pencil, to gray scale markers. Only a few pages have any 3D images for you to see, but in an age where everything is computerized... its really nice to see that old fashioned techniques being used.

Its a quality book I highly recommend for the Pixar fan, 3D animation enthusiast, and art students.

As soon as I finished Forests of Silence I plunged into Lake of Tears. This book kept me going with the series until the next one.

The Shadow Lord has taken over the land of Deltora and it is up to Lief, a young boy, Barda, an ex-palace guard and Jasmine, a wild girl who they met in the Forests of Silence to find all the jewels to the magic belt of Deltora to overthrow the Shadow. They already have the topaz but now they must find the next jewel in the deadly Lake of Tears.

Filled with new friends like Manus, and absolutely teeming with villains like Thaegan the witch and two of her children whom I will not name, Grey Guards, the Shadow Lord's evil servents and the treacherous Soldeen, I will treasure this book forever.

Read the first one and you'll love this book

Lief and his friends have to find seven gems to put in a belt called the belt of Deltora. This belt has special powers that is the only thing that can stop the Shadow Lord from his evil rule. I loved how Lief would stick with his friends even in the most perilest positions. I think it's great that they could do anything if they put there minds to it.

Deltora Dead or Alive?

In the fantasy novel The Lake of Tears by Emily Rodda , Lief, the son of the King, Barda, a place guard, and Jasmine, a gypsy of the Forest of Silence, are the only ones that stand in the way of Thaegon, a sorceress of the Ruby territory, and the Shadow Lord's evil rule over Deltora. Deltora is a magical land.
Over 14 years ago Lief's father, mother, and his fathers friend met and decided that if the Belt of Deltora, a mystic belt made by the first king of Deltora to protect its people, was to be kept safe it should be worn at all times by the current King. But the Shadow Lord was quick, he sent big black birds called Ak-baba to steal the seven gems of the belt and hide them all over Deltora. The kids now quest to find all 7 gems; Topaz, Ruby, Opal, Emerald, Diamond, Amethyst, and Lapis lazuli of Deltora, the kids have made it through The Forests of Silence, defeated the guardian of the Topaz gem and placed the Topaz on the belt of Deltora. There is one down and six to go. They now must quest to find the mysterious Lake of Tears. The gossip about this place races around like wild fire. Most have never returned from this journey into the lake to retrieve the next stone of the belt. Lief hopes that he and his friends will return from this trip to the lake as it had worked out at in The Forests of Silence, a previous book.
This book has a lot of interesting riddles and messages. Emily Rodda scans pictures and diagrams into the book that makes all the mystery and riddles even crazier to decode. Emily also has written many other series like Dragons of Deltora. The stories of Deltora Quest, Deltora Dragons, and Deltora Shadowlands are interrelated as past and future. I would recommend this book to readers 9 years and up and all who have a strong stomach

The Lake of Tears is the second to the Deltora Quest series. In this book the trio of Lief, Barda, and Jasmine are off to the Lake of Tears to get the second gem to the Belt of Deltora. The gem was the Ruby, which they had to defeat the evil Thaegan to get. In the first book of the series, Lief found out from his father, Jarred, that he was the one who was meant to save Deltora by finding the Seven Gems of the Belt of Deltora. By defeating Thaegan they shall have two of the gems and be on there way to saving their home from the evil Shadowlord.
Emily Rodda used tons of details in this new addition to her fantasy series filled with mischief and mysteries. This book was probably the best fantasy book I have ever read and I recommend it to any fantasy, dragon, and magic lovers. I recommend this book to both boys and girl who are okay with some frightening events occurring throughout the book.

If you ever want to read a good book, you need to read the series of Deltora Quest. These books are about a prince named Lief, an old palace guard named Bardah, and a wild girl from the forests of silence named Jasmine. In the book, the Shadowlord has taken over the kingdom of Deltora, and has taken the seven gems from the Belt of Deltora and has put them in seven very dangerous places to guard the gems. Now that Lief is old enough, he, Bardah, and Jasmine will go recover the seven gems. I would reccomend that all people interested in adventures books needs to read this book.I have read lot's of books, but none of the books that I've read have been this good.I also guarantee that you will like this book just as much as I did.

1. Deltora Quest is about a boy named Leif, Jasmine, and Barda. They are looking for the third stone, THE OPAL. The opal's power is to tell the future.
2.The Deltora Quest series is good, but to me, the third book is the best.
3. The dynamic character is Leif because he changes though the series.
4. I recommend this to people whom like fantasy books.

THE CITY OF THE RATS is the third edition of the DELTORA QUEST series. When Iread I felt a soft tingling and realized for the third time a Emily Rodda book was drawing me in. I could feel her literary power coursing through me and I must advise young immpresionable children to stay away from this book as it will give them nightmares. Now I must make a comment relevant to the subject: because DELTORA QUEST is based on Welsh Mythology like THE LORD OF THE RINGS and THE CHRONICLES OF PRYDAIN why wasn't one of the rats a twisted little creep obssessed with the Opal, the new gem our heroes are after? I have no clue but I think Emily Rodda is trying to force us to learn from our repeating history which has included creepy rats conquering whole cities, or at least paralyzing them with fear.

Abby Hayes, former soccer player wannabe, is now on another mission in which she must prove herself. This time, though, instead of proving that she is worthy of being a part of the Hayes family by becoming a soccer star, she is proving to her parents that she is mature enough to ride bikes to the fall festival at the high school with her friends, and hang out there without her little brother tagging along. But after doing countless chores and trying to act more adult-like (both seeming to be unimpressive to her parents) Abby is wondering if she's EVER going to be considered "mature". Will Abby be able to earn the freedom that she is positive she deserves...or will one mistake ruin everything?

This was a very good book! It's what I refer to as "not fantastic literature, but it requires little thinking and is enjoyable enough that I really like it". I have to say that this book was probably better than the first one. (And now I can't wait to get the third!) My only comment is that ten years old is pretty young to expect that much freedom! Whether Abby gets it or not, I'm not telling, though.

Overall, I say that if you're looking for a fun, light series to read before bedtime, while you're eating a snack, or while you're waiting in a doctor's office, then I recommend "The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes" to you! It's not complicated, and it's very entertaining. I actually waited in anticipation for moments of free time when I could read it!

This is a very good book. When you read it, it seems so real!

Every year, in high school, they had a Fall Festival. And this year's Festival will be the best ever. Abby wanted to go with her friends--NOT her little brother and her parents. But first, she had to prove how mature she is. So Abby planned alot of plans. Those were a great plan for independence...until disaster struck!

P.S. This'll be the book that were always in your hands.( When you get it! HA-ha-haaaaaaa! )

GO ABBY HAYES!

In the second book in the series about Abby Hayes, Abby declares her independence by refusing to take Alex to the Fall Festival, just like she does every year. Abby has to prove herself worthy by acting more mature. She agrees to babysit Alex, so they go to the park. But something terrible happens to Alex. Fortunately, Abby thinks quickly and everything turns out fine and Abby gets to go to the fair with her friends. Buy this great book and every one of them in the series.

Excellent Photoshop Book for Professional Phographers...

This is easily one of the best Photoshop retouching manuals ever. As a working photographer who enjoys doing his own retouching, I am always on the look-out for any instruction or manual that will make my job easier and workflow smoother. This book has migrated from my Photoshop bookshelf to join only four other books right alongside my monitor on my desk. When I need to address some specific problem that needs to be retouched, this is the first book I reach for.
The author has laid out the chapters in such a logical way, one only needs to look up the issue and go to the section that addresses the specific topic, a huge time-saver. As with Photoshop, there are many ways to correct images and this book presents quite a few new ones, even on techniques I use every day. I especially enjoy the before/after images and I'm sure many will benefit from the step-by-step lessons the author presents in a friendly, conversational way. Also, the "Tip" and "Caution" highlights are very helpful and concise.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to work in PS3 efficiently and profitably. Truly a Photoshop Retouching Bible in every way!

I've been working with Mark's book at my side for about a month now; it's clearly the best, most easily organized Photoshop book I've ever used. Every section of it taught me something new, or re-introduced me to concepts that I thought I had known but were made clearer and easier to use. I have had the pleasure of working with Mark on a couple of occasions conducting lighting workshops, so I know first-hand his excellent teaching skills. He brings them all to this book; its content and organization are first rate. Even though the book is organized primarily around restoration and retouching, it covers the whole spectrum of Photoshop and demonstrates indispensable skills for any photographer, at any skill level. I particularly found his section on file management (chapter 5: Getting Organized) to be the clearest, most easily applied description to be found anywhere, but every chapter in the book is equally content rich and superbly organized. There's a ton of Photoshop books out there (I think I have at least half of them!) but this is hands-down the best.

Having read most of the various Adobe Photoshop Help books, this book Photoshop CS3 Restoration and Retouching by Mark Fitzgerald is hands down the most organized and helpful of them all. His information is never too verbose which is a plus in a world of complex computer jargon.
Anyone, who has read books on this subject will be pleasantly surprised by the wealth of information (and how to use it) that the author has put forth.

My four year old son is in love with this chapter series! A friend suggested it to us since he seemed ready for a more advanced reading material at bedtime. My husband reads him a chapter every night...sometimes more because they don't want to stop. It's become a great tradition for them, and something they both look forward to. We love that there are so many in the collection! Start with number 1 and just continue. :)

My favorite part is when Jack and Annie meet the cubs and play. It takes place in the Arctic. What do you think will happen to the two kids? Will they become frozen dinners to the bears or will they get save? Read the book to find out!

COMPREHENSIVE UPDATE OF EXCELLENT COLLECTION OF CATHOLIC PRAYERS LARGE PRINT FOR US OF ELDERLY EYES

Somehow someone overnight exchanged my good old eyes that could read the small print on the back of my credit card bill with someone's tired out used and weary eyes that don't work that well. Either that or someone swappped out my arms for shorter ones that cannot hold text far enough away to come into view.

So people like me are very grateful for visible fonts, as in this prayer book.

The Rev. Maurus of the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans) has been publishing prayer books for some twenty five years. This is a reprint of an edition from twenty years ago. If it is important to you to include the new Luminous Mysteries in your Rosary celebrations, please be certain to get this, the latest edition.

You will find here the regular prayers of the Faithful, including morning, afternoon and evening prayers, as well as such sacramental celebrations as the Stations of the Cross and the Eucharistic Adoration.

The Celebration of the Sacraments includes preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and of course the Mass, with Communion prayers. There are prayers for before and after Mass, and for a variety of Masses, including the Ordinary of the Mass. In the old days this might partially be called a Missal and more; although it cannot replace a Missal with the cycle of readings, it can certainly serve as supplement.

Prayers of the Saints are included. You can also find here Acts of Faith, Hope, and Charity, as well as prayers for sickness, and in death. The commentary on the prayers is also a helpful companion. A section on Our Faith may also be found useful, if necessarily incomplete (study the theologians for more on this, including Jesus: An Experiment in Christology, Praying With Jesus And Mary: Our Father, Hail Mary and Mary: Model of Justice (Reflections on the Magnificat)!).

The more I pray and use this book it puts me into the prayer mood and keeps me talken to Jesus! I world give this book to a friend or family; it will teach them how to pray and will open their hearts it will fill them up with so much love! When you ask God into your life and you don't pray or talk to Him something just happens you lose that closeness with God. If you are like me you just don't know what to say. Well, with this book it will open up your mind and heart to Jesus! It will help you understand the Catholic Faith and how pure they are when it cames to their hearts and in their faith! I read this book through to the end and started over again and I still feel blessed everytime it read this prayer book.

A very nice, inexpensive book of prayers. Nicely bound in handsome imitation leather jacket. This is my 'go to' book when I need a little extra spiritual guidance for the day. I use this for my morning short devotional prayers and when I am inclined to say the rosary I use this as my guide to the 'mysteries'.

This is a very comprehensive and easy-to-understand prayer book that every Catholic should own.

My 1st grader hates to put it down, he would rather read Magic Tree House books, than play video games. He even reads them to his class and explains the story for show and tell. In his kindergarten class the teacher would also let him read the Magic Tree House books out loud, not to give her a break, but to promote reading out loud. Great books!

Jack and Annie are helping Teddy get all four presents. They're going to Australia to find the last present. They go on all kinds of adventures like helping a little kangaroo get back to its mother. Will Jack and Annie help the little kangaroo find its mother? If you want to know, you'll have to read Dingoes At Dinnertime. I like this book. It's good because I like the Dingoes because they remind me of my dog Paco.

I didn't really like this story, but it has a nice plot. Nice finish, but a bit confusing for me.

I really enjoyed this book and have read it about three times! As I write I'm reading it,again. It's about a wild shoshone pony who loves her freedom. Jake attempts to tame her and ride her in the Superbowl Of Horsemanship. But can he tame the fillie's burning desire to remain free? Will he have enough stamina to endure the journey himself? Will a friendship be broken? And will best friends get hurt both physically and emotionally? Find out and read THE PHANTOM STALLION series, book #10 and others and feel a feeling you've never experianced before....SOARING.

Phantom Stallion is a GREAT series!

Phantom Stallion #10 Red Feather Filly is another great book in a great series. I have enjoyed reading the first 11 books in this interesting and exciting series. I like this series because it has realistic characters and both wild and tame horses. I highly recommend this series for anyone who likes horses.

The best book in the phantom stallion series!!!!!!!! The Superbowl of Horsemanship is coming up and Sam and her friends are really excited. The race is coed and of course her best friend Jen has her race partner staked out, Ryan Slocum. Sam's race partner, Jake, plans to rope and ride a wild filly in the race for a manhood initation. But as the race nears the phantom stallion wants Star and succeeds in getting her. Now Jake is mad at her for letting Star get away. Then Sam goes out alone to find the filly, but Jake finds her first.
It's race day!!!!!!!!!! Sam and Jake are ready as they'll ever be. I won't go any farther. You'll have to find out what happens next.
This is really, really, the BEST book yet!!!!!!!!!!!!
