This is a required text for a class. It will be used for the class and in the future when in the classroom teaching.

I priced this book and several others here at Amazon and on half.com. By the time you take shipping into account Amazon was the better deal. Half.com also unless you request (and not possible with all books) it come via media mail. Sometimes 21 days later you get the book.

I am a third grade teacher and I have two children in college. I can tell you that I have found the Math Dictionary by Theresa R. Fitzgerald invaluable. At home I can use it as a quick and accurate referance guide. Often family members and neighbors will call me on the telephone and ask me a math definition or for an example on how to complete a math problem. With this book I can instantly respond accurately to their amazement. In the classroom I use it constantly so that I am not going through five different manuals and books looking for information I need to find quickly. I have had numerous parents at Partent-Teacher conferences tell me how much they love the reader friendly book. If you work with math in any compasity, you MUST have this book. It not only is a time saver, it will make you look good because you will 'know the answers' so quickly. There are just too many times the library is closed, or the internet isn't working. With Math Dicitonary for Kids you are always prepared to help any child or adult with a math question!

Breath of fresh air in the JFK assassination literature!

Dr. Diane Holloway's new book, The Mind of Oswald, is a breath of fresh air in the JFK assassination literature. As a former FBI agent, attorney, and judge (in fact, I was the presiding judge in the much celebrated case depicted in the recent movie "Boys Don't Cry"), I rely on facts. I am so pleased that someone, and especially a psychologist, has looked at the facts about accused assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald. The facts are what he said and wrote. Then she looked at it from the psychological viewpoint. The psychological approach is much like our approach; the best indicator of future behavior is past behavior. Dr. Holloway, a retired Dallas psychologist, has taken all of Oswald's words and life and tried to look at whether he was the kind of person who would kill a president. It is an excellent approach. I heartily recommend this book and give it a five star rating. Libraries would do well to add this to their list because there is too much crazy conspiracy literature available and the facts are needed about this important tragedy. Judge Robert T. Finn.

This book is worth your time!

Dr. Holloway has done a meticulous job of researching the career of Lee Harvey Oswald and sharing her findings with us. She has several unique perspectives working for her: being in Dallas at the time of the Kennedy assassination; having tested Gen. Edwin Walker, whom Oswald undoubtedly tried to shoot some months before JFK was shot; being a psychologist and thus able to give the reader her expert take on Oswald's capacity for violence. I felt as if I were able to watch Oswald virtually every day of his life right up to the moment he was killed by Jack Ruby. One has to feel a little sorry for Oswald, who never seemed to be happy no matter where he was or what he was doing. He couldn't spell, he lied about his height, he was just such a loser his entire life. Besides the close look at Oswald, Dr. Holloway gives us the historical background--what was happening in the world as Oswald was being Oswald.

An original, revealing, informative study.

Diane Holloway is a retired Dallas psychologist who was involved with the psychological assessment of one of Lee Harvey Oswald's assassination targets, Major General Edwin Walker (when Attorney General Robert Kennedy ordered an evaluation because of Walker's bizarre anti-government activities). Holloway as painstakingly gathered the works of Lee Harvey Oswald over a period of ten years and in The Mind Of Oswald: Accused Assassin Of President John F. Kennedy, incorporates Oswald's letters, diary, book about Russia, miscellaneous papers, notes, address book, job applications, radio interviews, and post-arrest television statements into a remarkable presentation of Oswald and the times leading up to the Kennedy assassination. The Mind Of Oswald is a "must read" for anyone with an interest in the Kennedy assassination, its impact on the American political system, and the controversies that surrounded it then -- and some of which continue to linger in the public mind to this day.

My son couldn't put this book down. So many boys don't like to read (probably the "cool factor"), but the Hardy Boys books always keep my son reading. He loved this one in particular since he races motocycles. He said it isn't acurate always in the terms used and such, but he really enjoyed it.

The latest (and, sadly, last) Hardy Boys story finds Frank and Joe at a motorcycle rally held to benefit a disabled young woman.
Of course, this being a Hardy Boys story, there are plenty of thrills and mystery.
Someone breaks into the rally sponsor's office, there's a mysterious fire, the Boys' friend has his motorcycle stolen, all in addition to plenty of motocross action!
Naturally, Frank and Joe are deeply involved in the case and pursue the criminals right up to the exciting conclusion!

Hardy Boys Say Farewell After 78 Years

For those of you who may not know, Motocross Madness, #190 in the long running Hardy Boys series, will be the FINAL volume in the series that began in 1927. The characters of Frank and Joe will live on in a new spinoff series, called Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers, to be released in June 2005, but it won't be the same Hardy Boys as you've come to know them. Over the years, there have been other Hardy Boys spinoff series, such as The Hardy Boys Casefiles, Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys Supermysteries, etc., but those series were published right alongside the original Hardy Boys Mystery Stories series, which continued to add new volumes. The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories had gone through many changes since 1927, including changes in publishers, going to paperback, having rewrites done, etc., but they still managed to survive through it all, and a collector could count on seeing a new title come along almost as sure as counting on the sun rising each day. Now however, the sun has set, and the last volume has arrived. It's hard to believe that this series has lasted through 16 Presidents, is older than The Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge, became a series only 15 years after New Mexico and Arizona became states, and a mere 24 years after the Wright Brothers invented the airplane, and yet continued clear until the 21st Century. I'm going to miss that thrill of looking forward to the next title in the series....

Mr. Putter and Tabby take the suggestion of Mrs. Teaberry to rent a boat and cool off. This foursome make for a wonderful afternoon of fun and are just the thing to put a breeze in a hot day. Every book in this series should be on your child's shelf - they are all delightful and fun to read!

I had heard so many good things about the Mr. Putter books that I decided to try them out with my 3-year old daughter, thinking that she may be a bit young for more words and fewer pictures. However, there are pictures on every page and only a few sentences to each. My daughter loves these books, especially this story. Her stuffed cat has been renamed Tabby.

One of the things I love about this book is that it includes silly details that make my child laugh every time - a bird picking fake grapes off of Mrs. Teaberry's hat, pouring water out of her hat onto everyone on a hot day, the "wierd" foods they bring along for the picnic...

I know of children all the way up to 3rd grade who enjoy these books, so I highly recommend them for any kids ages 4 to 8. Or as young as 3 if your child has the attention span.

My mother-in-law gave my son a Mr. Putter book that was being discarded from her elementary school library, and my soon to be 3-year old loved it so much I've bought almost every Mr. Putter and Tabby book that's out there. We pick out one Mr. Putter book to read each night. All the books have very sweet, enduring stories of friendship, and they've introduced him to what "chapters" are in books.

I have several of Rylant's book in my school library, and this is by far the favorite of the kids. The story is simple enough for the little ones to understand, yet wild enough for the older ones to just laugh out loud.

I can not recommend this entire series enough--they are just too funny and the illustrations just really add so much. They are really and truly great books.

Cynthia Rylant and Arthur Howard have created a winning combination in the Mr. Putter and his cat Tabby along with their quirky neighbors, Ms. Teaberry and her good dog Zeke. This latest offering in the series is laugh out loud funny. Mr. Putter and Tabby try to make soup while they are continually pestered by Zeke in his desire for a little attention. Yes, it is a simple story but it's timing is great and the illustrations as always are great. My four year old daughter loves this book and it leaves her in tears of laughter.

This is about the 6th book we bought in the series and they have all been great. It is nice to see stories that involve older people and have such winning story lines. I cannot recommend these books strongly enough. With the holiday season still in mind, check out Mr Putter and Tabby Bake the Cake - A great Christmas book

This is a very enjoyable book to read and share with your children. My son is only 3-1/2 years old and though this book is recommended for children a little older, when I sat and read it to him, he asked a lot of questions about why the little girl was fussing about the chores. It sparked his interest. The illustrations are beautifully done. I kind of want to keep this book for my private collection, but I'll be a good mommy and continue to share it with my son.

The words and illustrations will certainly hook your child

An outstanding history of the Sixties by an outstanding public servant. Harris Wofford makes the era come alive on the page with his first-person experiences with Martin Luther King, President Kennedy, and Robert F. Kennedy. A must read for anyone interested in the decade, the Kennedys, or Martin Luther King. Fantastic!

Harris Wofford brings the reader to some of the key moments in one of the nation's most tumultuous decades. His stories are genuine because he was there -- a key advisor to John and Robert Kennedy and to Martin Luther King.

Most amazing book I've read in a long time!!!

Review Date: 2003-10-25
I think this book is a amazing read! I picked up because of an interest in the era (the 60s), and once I started reading I felt as if I was actually living the events Wofford describes in this book. I particularly like his style of writing, and also how he comes across as different to most writers on the Kennedys. Usually it's clear the writer adores the Kennedys (and can see no wrong with them), or hates them (and can see no good in them). Wofford is not like this. He honestly paints the full picture of the two Kennedy men, and Luther King as well.
A thoroughly fascinating read - one I recommend to everyone!

The subtitle says it well: "Reflections and Recipes from an Old Salt" From a young age, Fitgerald was into fish. When his father was stationed at Guantanomo Bay, he really got into catching and preparing seafood at its best. His lifetime with seafood is here reflected in over 200 recipes accompanied by delightful commentary and suggestions.

I appreciate especially the alternatives offered on most every recipe, as sometimes it's tough finding what is called for, especially fresh each time and one desires.

Favorites from this collection include: Masa-Crusted Catfish with Red Chile Sauce, Roasted Trout Stuffed with Spinach, Hazelnuts and Blue Cheese, Stuffed Columbia River Sturgeon with Sweet Corn and Jerusalem Artichokes, Halibut Marinated in Mustard and Rosemary.

These are comparatively speaking easy to make recipes and ingredients are not exotic, but the taste is unique and satisfying. A worthy addition to seafood fancier's collection.

This book has everything!

Just received a copy of this newly released book and both my husband and I have read it from cover to cover. It is over two hundred pages filled with well written, humorous and informative essays from the life and experiences of a well traveled seafood "hunter", writer, educator, as well as a large collection of the most wonderful, original seafood recipes we have found. The recipes have already enticed us to prepare two delicious and easy dishes (Snapper in Saltines and Sesame Fried Calamari), even though we have had the book for less than a week!

Food writer and chef, Susan Volland, takes all the mystery out of preparing perfect seafood with her clear instructions for handling and preparing everything we might find in our fish market. She really covers the bases with how to prepare "Perfect Grilled Salmon" to more exotic dishes like "Spicy Thai Clam Soup." Everything sounds delicious and do-able!

The problem we are having is whether this book belongs in the guest room so visitors can enjoy the entertaining essays of Roger Fitzgerald, or in the kitchen so it will be immediately available for easy reference as we work our way through the recipes, chapter by chapter. We think this book is so good that we will have two copies - one for each place.
