This is a delightful little book. The talents of both Sabra Field and Jenepher Lingelbach meld superbly to portray that special feel of northern New England through the seasons. A great gift for anyone who appreciates this part of the world.

Simply put, the book, BEFORE LIFE HURRIES ON, is an elegant, stunningly beautiful marriage of poetry (Jenepher Lingelbach) and art (Sabra Field) that celebrates life, nature and Vermont. It does this with spare lines that have profound meaning. This is not just another good book by regional artists, it is a classic book with meaning for anyone who loves rural people, their communities, the land they work and the essence of nature which both surrounds and touches them. If there were more stars in Amazon's rating system, this book would use them all up.

I was vaguely familiar with the extent of mining in WWI due to a TV special on one of the history channels, so I decided that I would like to know more and bought this book. The team of authors with various backgrounds put 25 years worth of research into this work, and man, does it ever show. Superbly researched, extremely well written, and jammed full of crisp, rare period photographs and maps, topped off with a high quality printing. No way will you be disappointed with this book, and should you ever have the opportunity to tour the WWI battlefields, you'll never look at the ground beneath you feet the same again!

This is how books should be produced. Clear reproductions of contemporary photo's, beautifully executed line drawings that help explain & illustrate the text and clear color modern photos of what remains on site today.

The book covers the deep tunneling 'war' in Flanders in great detail, with the other tunneling sectors - where conditions were less difficult - in less detail & in their own section. And does so from both sides, which is still uncommon in any modern military books - most being written from the point of one side or the other.

I have also recommended this book to acquaintances well outside the military history field - it is an excellent book for those interested in 20th Century engineering and equally to those with an interest in archeology - I expect to see some of the techniques described in this book being used in future field excavations in anthropology.

David Holt takes you gently form 5Ks through practice 10Ks and half marathons before building you up for the marathon.
He uses graduated system of strength and endurance from hills and anaerobic threshold or tempo runs, before easing you into Intervals at 10K to slightly faster than 5K pace to make you economic while also strong enough to handle 26.2 miles.
Holt includes extensive nutrition and hydration skills advice, plus injury prevention and treatments, and motivation tips.
Programs for your first marathon or intensive training at 40 to 80 miles per week, and from one to three sensibly paced speed sessions per week.

I just recently read the book "Between the Lines" and I was very pleased with how easy the book was to read as well as the content in the book. The author is very detailed about everything that is in the book, so you do not have to be a sports psychologist to understand the material. One of my favorite topics the author covered was the difference between a "Hit" and a "Quality at Bat." This topic was something I never thought of until now, but made so much sense. I have been a softball player for over 15 years and I am now starting to get involved with coaching and I would say this book is a MUST read for both players and coaches.

I found "Beyond the Beach Blanket" a beautiful and easy to use field guide -- terrific photos and really interesting material. It contains much more information than the average field guide -- a lot of fun facts and cool stories about the lifecycles of beach creatures. It really covers a lot of different types of animals too -- clams and other shells, plus tidepool animals like sea urchins, plus what the book calls "near shore creatures" like fish and sharks, plus marine mammals AND shore birds. It's an all in one guide for the beach.

appreciate Marina Curtis Tidwell 's Beyond The Beach Blanket: A Field Guide To Southern California Coastal Wildlife all that's needed is proximity to a Southern California beach and a general appreciation for sea life. From thirty-year-old clams to strange jellyfish, color photos supplement science-filled but lively descriptions of the habits and habitats of Southern California's beach wildlife. A lovely, recommended pick.

I really enjoyed this book. It is spoken as if Worth was relating his stories to a friend. I will be getting a sneakboat this fall and was made even more anxious by reading the accounts of brant and wigeon landing right on top of these crafts! David Hagerbaumer's artwork is a great addition to this book. His sketches are amazing! If you liked this book, try to find a copy of Hagerbaumer's Waterfowling These Past Fifty Years, Especially Brant. It is a great book based in the same area.

When I ordered this book I was looking for some reading about Canvasback ducks. If that is your interest in this book you will be fooled as I was. There is relatively little specific material about the species. However, Mr Mathewson has done a nice job of informing the reader about hunting waterfowl on the northwest coast. He talks of the various birds as well as the tools used to pursue them in that region. His ability to inform the reader at the same he reports a story from his past is enjoyable to say the least. The pencil sketches of Mr. Hagerbaumer add to these stories. For me, I was sad when I finished the book, which is an indication of my appreciation of it.

Finally, a technology book you can read in less than 4 hours and that actually has information you can understand and take advantage of-regardless of how "technologically advanced" you are. This is a first rate book on becoming a "good" technology professional and using technology for your company. A must read for anyone in technology at every level.

This is a must read for every technology professional and CTO. Since it is a "Bigwig Briefs," it does include excerpts from various technology books published by this publisher, but it also includes very valuable parts from numerous other books and information only found in this book. A first rate book for every technology professional.

Dave told me four years ago he was going to write a book. He was kind enough to share thirty years of acquired knowledge and history with me. I figured it was going to be just another book about some off the walk theories on how to train a bird dog like the other books that I had read on the same subject. Little did I know. Dave's book is a nuts and bolts yet simple approach system on training your bird dog from a pup to a finished dog. It is money well spent.

This book is a MUST READ for those new to the sport or those like myself that have been involved for almost thirty years. This is a No Nonsense "How To" guide that leaves no Stone Unturned. Dave gives the new and experienced trainer all the tools and places to acquire everything from training aids to veterinarian tips. I finally found a source to get my dogs "Snake-Bite Proofed"! Keep the book Close By, Dave has done all the Research Work and it's all right at the back of the book for fast reference!
I thought I knew just about everything there was to know about training and field trialing until I read Dave's book... What an eye opener! Lucky for me, I got the book in time to apply Dave's methods to my now six month old Brittany. And Don't fret, Dave addresses the training of all Bird Dogs, not just Brittany's. And most important, he teaches the Trainer how to be a Trainer in clear simple language. If you don't have this book, Get It! Best Investment for any Dog owner!!! Thanks Dave!!

As someone who is interested in improving their birding skills, I found this an excellent guide. The authors begin by explaining some basic bird facts related to vocalizations. They proceed with the recordings, which are grouped into birds with similar songs (the authors refer to this as "pairing"). This improves the listners ability to correctly identify the song with the bird. The last portion of the auditory cassette places the birds into habitat groupings without the identification of the bird. This section can be used as a test of the listners abilities or to help familiarize the listner with where each bird can most probably be found. This in turn helps the reader correctly identify birds in the field by narrowing the possibilities. Finally, the tapes have an accompaning written guide. Each bird is listed with a black and white drawing, habitat type and a written description of the song/call. The authors also reference the page number to Petersons Field Guide of Western Birds and provide a space where the listner can write his/her comments. All in all, this is an excellent resource.

I've birded for a number of years but I wanted to be able to distinguish birds by their calls, especially the shy ones. This CD volme was the perfect introduction. Dick Walton's informal, almost folksy, comments made for enjoyable listening and learning. Sure there are only 91 species but one great sampling. Now that he has taught me "hooks" and "handles" I have graduated to using the Stokes CDs, but at least I can now differentiate closely related songs thanks to Mr. Walton.

If you are new to bird songs, please start with this volume. In contrast the Stokes volume presents the songs, but no commentary. It is up to you to find the hooks and handles and figure out how to memorize all the songs.

BTW, I disagree with Mr Walton on one bird. He says the California Quail is calling "Chicago, Chicago." In my field experience I am sure it is looking for "Atlanta, Atlanta."

Really nice book with the CD pocket right in the cover. Wonderful to carry in the car and listen as you ride.

Very good followup to Rick Bragg's amazing life stories. I, too, am from the South and felt as if we knew each other because of the similarities.
I would recommend that all three of his books be purchased, read, and then re-read over & over. You will never forget this Southern boy's story!
